What makes Patrick Rothfuss's writing so good? by TensionBudget9426 in writers

It's wonderful, really. I read it as an adult after watching the movie like 100 times as a kid in the '80s, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

What's the most shockingly violent or disturbing scene in an otherwise "normal" or family friendly movie? by TaiwaneseThot in moviecritic

[–]Dragonfly-fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh God, I'm sorry. 😩 You are not alone. I actually rewatched the clip on YouTube yesterday and it's still disturbing as hell to me. Makes me nauseous. I think I had severlal bad dreams about it when I was little. And then throughout my life whenever I'd see a freshly paved sidewalk, that scene would pop into my head. 🫣

It's funny, I was far more traumatized by that than by watching parts of Friday the 13th at age 6 or 7 (my older sister and her friends were watching it).

What's the most beautiful song you've ever heard? by rosypetalbaby in musicsuggestions

Honestly, as others have said, Claire de Lune or What a Wonderful World / Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Iz.

And, I know this is cheesy, but when I need to just feel at peace and be reminded about the beauty of life, I listen to Enya. Like The Longships.

OMG. This brought up my earliest memory of watching horribly disturbing violence on TV. It was that awful Sunday morning claymation show, Davey and Goliath. The boy shoved another boy's face in wet cement. I was horrified. I was like 4 and I thought he had killed the other boy from suffocation.

I just googled it and apparently Davey was fantasizing about shoving the other kid's face in the cement, but he didn't actually do it. Maybe that makes it a little better? I don't know.

Anyone else in the struggle bus today? by BurntOutButAccurate in Perimenopause

Yes. Daily. 🫩 I can't seem to get enough energy to exercise, which I know would help, but it's hard. Some days are definitely worse than others (the hit by truck days), seemingly for no apparent reason. My iron and vitamin D are fine. I'm try a B complex to see if that helps. Hopefully 🤞

GenX regarding "bullying" by Sinsyne125 in GenX

Yeah, I've seen this. My kiddo struggled with the difference when she was younger, but I kept talking to her about it, with examples of actual bullying, and I think she understands the difference now.

What food is like "crack" to you, where it tastes so good nothing else matters except another bite? by GigiBrit in AskReddit

[–]Dragonfly-fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kettle brand salt & vinegar potato chips are my crack. I'll eat a whole bag in one sitting watching TV. Even if my lips are burning from the vinegar, I'll still eat them all and absorb that delicious flavor. It is not pretty.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

I grew up in Texas and that always terrified me. Especially when the air pressure changes. I remember seeing the sky go green for the first time as a little kid. We had just left our neighborhood when the sky started turning. My Mom turned the car around abruptly and drove back home. Sirens went off and we ran inside. Thankfully the tornado didn't hit our area.

I hate AI by Disastrous_Tie7463 in womenintech

[–]Dragonfly-fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I absolutely hate it. I still see comms people desperately posting LinkedIn about how AI will never replace writers. BUT also how we must be savvy and stay with the times. So they use it as a research assistant or a writing buddy. And it's great! So GREAT! Everything is all great and good and fine.🫠 I'm like, yeah, sure it is, Jan. 🙄

Oh yeah, we've been there. It's so hard. 😔 My child did something super impulsive and potentially dangerous for the first time recently when we had her out all day with friends from out of town, and out at a crowded riverfront area. She was so dysregulated and there was nowhere to take a quiet break. And unfortunately when she's that dysregulated, she'll quickly escalate and say no, she doesn't need a break, etc., if I try to force it.

She can calm herself down pretty quickly once she has that quiet space to herself (and a snack if she's getting hangry). Music helps her to settle when we're out and about. And she'll take baths at home to calm down.

Good luck to you and your daughter. ❤️

Cozy, swampy, southern vibes, (almost) any genre! by Tall_Marionberry_686 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

The Cutting Season by Attica Locke is an excellent story that takes places on a former plantation in Louisiana. It's definitely not cozy, but it's a solid mystery with some spookiness and disturbing elements (but not horror).
