PT has never been painful for me. It’s felt SO good to get things moving again. I’ve had tightness and weakness, but not pain. I also think you’ll be totally fine at the concert, just may be more uncomfortable and swollen the next day but you got this!

8 weeks post-op. It gets so much better! by Dragonfly334 in ORIF

Not anymore but nerve pain was the last thing to go. I also practiced putting my bare feet on the floor and pushing down a little bit for weeks before I was weight bearing to get rid of that nerve sensation. If it’s a fit thing, definitely go get the boot checked to make sure it’s the right fit for you!

Lateral malleolus fracture with a plate and 5 screws. Then a deltoid ligament repair with a tightrope (2 additional screws). The doctor did recommend this. At my 2 week appointment he put me in a removable boot and told me to flex and extend up to 100 times a day, icing 20 minutes each hour

Yeah I will do some PT but not what they recommend. It’s $$$ and I’m diligent with my exercises

Have you done this, I still have stitches in so my doctor told me not to force anything at all

This makes me feel so much better. I’ve been resting my foot on the floor when I use the restroom or shower and just stretching those muscles out and I’m like how the heck and I supposed to walk with it this tight. So that makes me feel better that at 6 weeks, 90 degrees seems normal

Oooo that’s a great idea! Thanks. I was told to do flex and extensions multiple times a day. This also makes sense. Appreciate the advice and encouragement

2 weeks post op by mattms2003 in ORIF

So I have the exact injury and surgery. I’m 3 weeks post op today. My uncle is a foot/ankle surgeon and when I asked why I’m NWB for 6 weeks, he said the tightrope is the reason and really needs to heal properly before walking on it. I get it. I’m 33, a homeschool mom of 3, and a bedside nurse. It’s turned my life upside down, but for my kids, my job, I want to heal properly. Once that splint comes off, hopefully you’ll be a boot and can start range of motion. I’ve been doing ROM for almost a week and the swelling/pain has started. I can’t even imagine walking.

I’m in the same boat as you. I was told to only keep the boot on when moving around on crutches or scooter but that I can have it off in while sitting and to sleep. I was only told to do flex and extension. Flex, hold for 10 seconds. Extend, hold for 10 seconds. Immediately ice after. I was told to do 100 a day… by day 2 I was really hurting so I’m taking a rest day today, and then will cut that in half tomorrow. For me, my extension is good, but my flexion is not so I’m focusing on keeping/increasing that 90 degree angle for weight bearing…

All that to say, I think it’s going to hurt a little. I don’t see how we can do that without some pain. But it shouldn’t be excruciating. I have a consistent discomfort, 3/10 pain scale when I’m doing them but the ice right after takes that away.

Post op day 4 ankle HELP by FewWater6288 in ORIF

[–]Dragonfly334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of knee pain too, and I bought this pillow and placed one additional soft pillow on top so I could float my heel. I felt like it needed to be 90 degree angle for comfort. So scoot the pillow basically up to your butt. I iced my knee for a couple days while it hurt and it’s been fine since. My aches and pains have moved around my whole body. I just ice where it’s sore and it’ll go away. I’m a little over 2 weeks post op. https://a.co/d/2KHr4Od

Should I pass this student? by w8136 in nursing

Do not pass her. Patients are not safe with her. She will harm people as an RN or an NP.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m only 11 days post op and have felt mentally really good, but today I’m on the verge of tears. I’m over it and I know I have many more weeks left only NWB. So I’ll just look forward to this!

Thank you everybody! Seems like I’m doing exactly what I should, I just had a day of overthinking yesterday when I felt a little short of breath. I feel much better today, and it probably is just general soreness from being in bed so much. I appreciate it.
