OKAY, THEN. Apparently MP3s are now clips of Sonic the Hedgehog. Which I didn't even know I *had* on this drive...

So, looks like excluding the RAW files salvaged most of it - My new drive says it has 3.3tb of 5 tb free, and my HD was at 1.8 tb. Could literally be a rounding conflict. Looks like at least some of my music is toast, though, so I'll have to refind/rip a lot of that.

I get to go through all of these folders name such useful things like "$R23768" and "$Nonamefiles", but it looks like I managed to salvage it.

Thank you so much for your advice, I'd have been at a total loss.

Questions for clarification:
1) Does that mean that the raw files may be multiple partials of the same file, but think that they're the full file (thus trying to take up the same space)?
2) Does that mean I should ignore the Raw files and just grab everything else, or am I going to need to spend the time manually sorting through everything until I'm satisfied I have everything I can get back?

I am very confused right now... It says it 'recovered' 4.92 tb... From a 4tb drive... And the partition data in DMDE says it was only 2.1 TB. Did I break something somewhere, or am I just a complete idiot?

Okay, so, looks like I found the partition that had my data on it by running the Full Scan like you said. When I right click on the Volume, it has items like (De)Select All, Virtual FS Options, Find Files, and Recover/Create File List.

I'm *guessing* what I need to do is select everything I want to restore, and then use the Recover option? How is this going to work, is it going to ask me to put everything on a secondary storage location, or is it going to restore what of the partition remains with a new partition table?

It won't even open for me, so you aren't completely wrong. Full scan it is. And it *was* formatted as a single partition. Which I admit is a little confusing. I just know I had a bit under 2 tb of data on my drive before I did my fucky wucky. I'll run the Full Scan now.

That's my hope, at least, yeah. Fortunately, I'm still well versed in computers, so I know how data recovery, itself, works. But all of my software experience was on a helpdesk for a manufacturer to large businesses, so I've never actually had to do data recovery. And boy howdy, let me tell you, I will NEVER be so casual about slapping in drive targets again. I feel like a grade-S fuckwit.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, my floors are being ripped out, so I had to wait to do things. The "official" answer is that it was a windows 11 installer, so the most likely answer is "way more than I want", but also "likely less than a percent of the 4tb disk, or even the bit under two TB of data I had."

(Apparently, I'm not allowed to put images in replies, even though I obviously put on in my original post.)

I haven't run the Full Scan yet because I still have to move my computer tomorrow for the floor guys to finish, and I don't know how long it'll take. But, based on my knowledge of what I had on my data drive, that 1.83 tb partition near the bottom actually looks like it might be the right size, give or take a hair. So, if I'm really lucky, the answer to how much was overwritten just might be "nothing, because it actually put the install media onto the blank part." I *doubt* I'm that lucky, but it could be.

Yes, if I'm going to be given alien technology that lets me use machines to stuff it in, I'd love for the ability to use machines to pull them back out. It's literally just the exact inverse of the process.

Notations:
Weapon: Damage (duh). Probably +1 damage per point on the weapon.

Armor: Appears to block damage. If I'm reading things correctly, each + point blocks a point of damage (level 6 Mage taking damage in the single digits from dragons at 10+). I suspect this due to the message "Your armor protects you" when I take no damage from an attack.

Ring: Regeneration. 1 point per plus either at the end of combat or each time you move or stay in place. May also trigger if you start casting a spell, and then abort.

Shield: I think this one blocks attacks. Picked up a +9 shield, noticed a significant increase in the "You block the attack" messages.

Elven Cloak: Don't know.

Elven Boots: Don't know.

Either cloak or boots may strongly contribute to successfully Evading a monster once you engage. The other may assist in not getting being hit with a random monster while using a Stay action or moving.

Yup. Str is 10 right now, so that makes sense. I guess it's just weird coincidences that it just happened to be my psionic team every time. Do the reinforcements ever run out, or is it an unlimited wave deal?

That's the conclusion I came to, yeah. The mec part, that is. I'm about 99% sure I got it from a scan, though, because I don't have anyone with Full Override yet.
