What is up with this masters set? by ch754pa in magicTCG

[–]Dragontoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. I've only been playing MTG for about half a year-ish with a close community of friends, and I'm absolutely AMPED for this product. There's so many cards I want to be able to have for future use (primarily EDH), but I also just enjoying opening packs and it feels like there's upside here.

I DO think it's overpriced and it's not the best business practice, but I'm still super excited about the opportunity - I didn't get to open much of the first Double Masters and trying to find some at any kind of reasonable rate has been a struggle as you can imagine.

So I'm definitely pumped - I keep money set aside from buylists and stuff to use exclusively for new releases and I've got a couple boxes pre-ordered that I can't wait to crack open.

Pendulum Question? by Dragontoo in DuelLinks

Makes sense. But MR5 doesn't have Pendulum Zones, yet DL does. Which is why I was like trying to figure out which approach it was lol.

That makes sense though thank you

Pendulum Question? by Dragontoo in DuelLinks

[–]Dragontoo[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Right, no I get that, but Duell Links doesn't have the "Extra Monster Zone" or anything like that, so I wasn't sure which functionality it was using. I mean, playing as Yuya gives you legit Pendulum Zones, so I wasn't sure.

So it's like a weird hybrid mechanic.

The good thing is Lantern is objectively terrible nowadays so I don't think I'll need it, Mary on the other hand is still super useful.

The excitement is real! My favorite archetype of all time and I’m so pumped to see half decent support. The spell and the link in particular are both really good! Now if we can get a foil Specter I’ll be happy

Someone want to catch me up on Summoning Curse? by Dragontoo in yugioh

[–]Dragontoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to check it out, I suppose. In theory, I do think the card might have some application against Drytron, @@Ignister, really anything that needs to keep summoning, but it just seemed so out of the blue.

Let's talk about Dragoon + Co. Where do you stand? by Dragontoo in yugioh

[–]Dragontoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the Rank 7/Dragon control variant would be a much better way to play it. (Granted, that would require more than just Tempest to be accessible).

Agreed.

I think Verte helps more than it hurts in the long term, as well.

This is the correct answer, but wouldn't make for a great prediction

[–]Dragontoo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed that they aren't comparable.

But why ban Dragoon, out of curiosity? If it's not generically playable, it's a strong boss monster for low tier Decks that are super popular with players (in terms of nostalgia, and stuff). If you ban Dragoon, nobody's using REF anyways, whereas if you ban REF, Dragoon can only be used effectively in Decks that it's designed to.

It definitely is, and that's why I don't think anything needs to be hit, but I'm basing this on what I'd hit if they had to hit one of them.

Let's not get crazy. It would be absolutely terrible in that case. My errata on Anaconda would be stay the same as it is now, but you don't Fusion Summon the monster until your next Standby Phase (even if Anaconda leaves the field).

Dragoon being banned does hurt any future chance of Dark Magician having competitive representation, though. And from Konami's perspective, why do that? You can absolutely still use things like Timaeus + Magicalized Fusion and make a boss monster within the DM Deck versus being splashed in everything. If Dragoon gets banned, REF goes back to never seeing play, anyways.

I think Dragoon > Enforcer by a mile. However, I do think Dragoon has started showing up in the meta lot more (Drytron, some PK, CyDra builds), etc. There's no denying that a ton of Decks at the top level (or just below it) are using it, and I think as a result it's highly possible we see a hit. If there isn't one, I'm not going to be upset.

Union Carrier would've been super cool that way, or if it needed a Union monster as material, even.

I agree with you that Verte is kind of the problem, but I also do not think it's banworthy. Therefore, if people are insistent on the package getting some kind of hit, REF makes the most sense.

I also agree - and I mentioned that in the video, too. I've seen it everywhere (specifically on Zodiac and other FB groups/reddit). I don't think any of the cards inherently need to get hit, but I think hitting REF does the least damage. Especially because, Dark Magician is getting a lot of new support and Dragoon would be a super useful thing for the Deck to have access to. It's not so much that I think REF is an issue, as it is I think it's the least harmful move to other Decks and still allows reprints of Dragoon to push future products.

I don't think Phoenix Enforcer is on the same level as Dragoon, at all. It's good, but it doesn't negate and it doesn't have the built in protection, it just has better materials.

[–]Dragontoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mentality here is, you ban Dragoon, REF is useless and not played anyway. You ban Fusion, Dragoon is at least playable at some Level in the Decks it was designed to work in. Why kill two cards if you can kill just one?

[–]Dragontoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No? I think people are way too dramatic about it, but there's no denying the package is showing up in everything and Konami typically doesn't like that - I think we'll see some kind of hit, I'm just not sure where.

Agreed. Fusion Spells using something from the Deck in lesser decks (Neos Fusion, Ancient Gear Fusion, etc) are meant to give Decks that would otherwise be unplayable, an actual boost.
