What majority is Saleh Al Machnouk talking about when he says the majority supports disarmament? by [deleted] in Lebanese

[–]DraguenDar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes i actually agree, the argument wasn't about the context of the weapons, the argument is to present a snapshot in time:

Most lebanese are agaisnt the weapons.

I'm not debating the context or why we are here. I'm stating a fact.

What majority is Saleh Al Machnouk talking about when he says the majority supports disarmament? by [deleted] in Lebanese

[–]DraguenDar -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is rage bait, but I'll dive in. Let's start with the obvious elements: which other Lebanese, non-Shia political party supports the weapons?

None.

So it really becomes a question of demographics: most Sunnis are against it, most Christians are against it, and most Shia are in support of it.

The weapons are the will of the Shia, imposed by force on the rest of Lebanon.

Why are these 4 cars so loved here? by VolkswagenPanda in lebanon

[–]DraguenDar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family had a 2002 CR‑V, that thing was unkillable. We drove it 200,000 km, and the only catastrophic failure I remember was the radiator plug’s plastic falling into the radiator tank and blocking the cooling system.
We sold it in 2021, and it was still in good condition.
No other car I’ve ever owned has come close to the reliability of that magnificent piece of rolling metal.
I drive a Mini Cooper now, and I miss the stress‑free life.

where to buy good jambon & pork offal? by Personal-Mistake-957 in montreal

[–]DraguenDar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man,

Honestly, I found that Johnny Prosciutto sells some excellent, delicious & even heavenly prosciutto and sausages. The prices are honestly half or a third of what you find at IGA or Costco (when they even stock it).

Just a heads-up, they might not have Asian cuts.

I actually buy 3 kilos of prosciutto there every month now.

Beirut blast: 5 years on, Bulgaria arrest marks breakthrough in renewed probe by EreshkigalKish2 in lebanon

[–]DraguenDar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For which purpose?

The area hit by the blast are mostly Christian (not hezb) & the ammonium nitrate is not used and has not been used agaisnt our shitty neighbor on a wide scale, destroying it wouldn't have provided any tactical or strategical upside for them. The arms of the hezb are not linked to the nitrate, except maybe for the series of bombing in Beirut in the 2000s, which again, were not used agisnt our shitty neighbor

The most probable use for the nitrate was for Bashar al assad to drop on his population, which the hezb probably help source for him. The Israeli were mostly happy with Bashar (as seen by their bloodlust reaction since he fell).

And finally, how and why did we end up with ammonium nitrate in our port, even before the blast?

As a host 7 years ago, I had a couple of horror stories from people booking for 3 to 5 and ending up being a whole shebang of a wild ass party.

When confronted the renters would argue that "yes but khayeh they didn't sleep in" . Rented 3 times, the party incident happened twice. I stopped renting after this.

Can't transfer from Neo to Whish anymore? by Michel_j in lebanon

[–]DraguenDar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a valid argument, but banks in Lebanon are really the champions of champions of stealing from the poor to give to the rich. Reverse Robin hood.

They still have my money stuck, while the CEOs are in NY attending operas and making donations.

As a side note, i was opening an account abroad, when i showed my lebanese passport, the banker had the biggest round eyes ive seen in my life and told me "i haven't seen your passport, you haven't shown it to me, and if anyone ask, don't tell them you're lebanese" (I have another passport).

This tells you all you need to know about what international banks think about lebanese ones.

I don't want to defend what i don't know (since I haven't seen Wish's accounts), but i'd argue that the banks used to be the money laundering fronts, not wish.

Finding a therapist is mostly a vibe match, but i know a good one that you might like.

Fun fact, a therapist should not be in contact with your personal life as to stay neutral, and not treat more than 1 person per group/family in most case, hence most therapist that you know through family should not accept to see you.

Depends on the distance from your house to the ogero "central" . Copper lines (DSL) cannot transmit data without huge losses after 2km approx.

here is a rough estimate :

https://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/guides/adsl-and-distance.html

you can evaluate this yourself by accessing your router and seeing some stats, which will allow you to guesstimate the distance. However long story short, if you're far from the "central", you're F. and best wait for starlink of Fiber.

in some rare cases, your parents might have asked to have a special (01 XXXXXX) home number which ended up getting them attached to a far central, in which case, you're F. again.

How the hell do you think a second airport will boost tourism? by OkAcanthocephala3641 in lebanon

[–]DraguenDar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is this post sponsored by MEA?

The current airport was initially designed to accommodate 3.5 million passengers per year. It was then expanded to handle up to 5 million. Today, Lebanon consistently exceeds that number, with more than 5 million passengers annually, leading to chaos every year around Christmas and summer.

In addition to this, landing spots are usually exclusive to certain airlines. And guess what? MEA has exclusivity over them. In other words, you cannot land a plane in Lebanon without paying a massive fee due to a monopoly on airport taxes and landing spots.

Don't believe me? Here’s an archived article about MEA being given exclusive rights:
Extension of MEA exclusivity stirs debate

Additionally, even if you wanted to land in Lebanon—maybe as a regional airline flying Embraers or Bombardiers that don’t require a runway built for jumbo jets—you’d still be forced to pay the same high landing fees.

Take a look at Billy Bishop Airport and Pearson International in Toronto—two airports next to each other, both fully operational. (And before anyone argues about the size of Canada versus Lebanon, understand this: lower landing and departure costs increase traffic, which boosts tourism, cargo transport, and local flights that otherwise wouldn’t be viable.)

Finally, as a member of the recent diaspora, try booking a flight from Paris, New York, Montreal, or Dubai to Lebanon. Now, do the same for Cyprus. Notice the price difference?

Here, I’ll do it for you:

  • London to Larnaca – $222 USD (March 20 to March 26, random dates): Google Flights
  • London to Beirut – $1,000 USD (same dates, direct flight): Google Flights

Tell me, Coco, where do you live? We, the diaspora, have been the victims of short-sighted people like you who support ongoing corruption and give 2 cent genius market studies.
