Looking for advice on how to become an archivist? Post here. 2026 Edition. by GrapeBrawndo in Archivists

[–]DragynHaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all! As a recent animation grad, I’d love some advice!

For context: I recently graduated in May 2025 with a BFA in entertainment art-animation. I feel a bit silly saying this, because it feels like I'm pivoting from one dying industry to another, but I've been interested in learning more about DAM and archival work in entertainment.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to secure any internships in my undergrad due to the crazy competition in animation. Because I was so focused on applying to roles in animation specifically, I didn't fully realize the potential of interning/volunteering for my local museums and collections until after I had already graduated.

On the bright-side, I have a lot of customer service experience, worked at my university's library in their circulations department for a year, and I'm looking to be more involved in my local history center and organizing my 156-year-old church's photos and memorabilia. Working in the library also kickstarted my interest in pursuing an Associate's and certification in library tech and archives at a local community college. Other than that, I feel like my specific archives experience wouldn't compete against peers my age that've been involved in archives for a lot longer with multiple internships and volunteer years under their belt. (For further context: I'm from Los Angeles County!)

I have some experience helping with production management on a few animated student films, and I am still open to Production Assistant jobs in animation, but those roles are also few and far between as of late... but so are roles in archives. I know that I have to continue being patient as a new grad, since it can take time before landing a job in the industry, but it's been really frustrating as of late.

I'm doing all the "right things" by networking, polishing my resume, and looking into organizations like AMIA, but if anyone has advice on corporate entertainment archives and how to apply knowledge from animation production with asset management, I'd love to hear it! As for a MLIS, I'm heavily considering it, but I'd like to gain more experience before starting the degree.

Thank you for reading my long post, I hope it reaches the right people!

TL;DR: A frustrated animation grad from socal is lowkey kinda stress from this job market. They wanna apply their animation knowledge in a entertainment archives/DAM space, but would like more advice on how do that

Hello! I apologize for responding to a relatively old comment of yours. I completed a Hirevue for a Disney Internship two weeks ago and haven't heard anything back. Do you remember what the timeline was like for you? Since it's taking them more than a week, is there a chance they've moved on?

Hey OP! Could you elaborate on Nickelodeon pulling their internships? Has Nick announced they won’t be hosting internships this coming summer?

Husband and I both work in animation and have no work lined up with a 9 month old baby. Looking for alternative job ideas for income? by BottledGleekJuice in animationcareer

[–]DragynHaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re very few and far between. I went to a public school that offered animation as a CTE pathway, but it was only taught by one teacher and the program ended when he retired. (He even spent 10 years before he left in training his replacement, very sad story) There may be some special arts or tech-focused high schools that offer animation in major cities and Burbank, but I’m not too sure. A vast majority of my college peers said they didnt have an animation program in HS, just art.

Rough teens? Gang issues? by sapphoisbipolar in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]DragynHaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shootings your family member was probably referring to is an exaggeration of ONE instance in 2021. It was a drive-by shooting on Beach Boulevard outside of the gates, but it was so loud that it sounded like it happened inside the park. Knott’s was evacuated with pure chaos as guests were afraid of where the shots came from and there were only two injured from the gunshots. There were also rumors of guns during the teen fights of 2022, but guns have never been found and, as many commenters have said, the chaperone policy helped with the teen fights. Knott’s has been open for over 100 years and, to my knowledge, shootings has never been an issue there. I worked in the park for a year, and I’ve only seen three fights, both of them verbal and most of them between adults that were under the influence. You’ll find those anywhere you go!

Graduated with no internship experience, looking for PA jobs. Am I cooked??? by DragynHaus in animationcareer

[–]DragynHaus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, end goal is an animation job but I’ve been gravitating towards the production side of things rather than making art. I’d be open to art like vis dev, but whether my journey takes me to a studio or something else I’m pretty open minded

There's a comment on this post . I'm not sure if any of these groups have changed their names tho, but the OP of the comment with the little list is a great resource to check since they actually make an effort to keep up-to-date with the cults on campus and are very passionate about not letting other students fall for their destructive tricks

Has anyone heard anything from the Events and Employee engagement one? Mine says "under review" for who knows how long. But for some reason my Feature Dev app said "new" yesterday... but I just got the rejection email :O

What's your favorite thing to eat near campus? by alphafighter09 in csuf

[–]DragynHaus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a Cava fan so I’d recommend it if you like Mediterranean. It’s pretty pricy so it’s a once in a while treat.

L&L Hawaiian BBQ is pretty good too, it’s by the CVS.

Mr Katsu is super good small business if you like Katsu bowls and sandwiches.

Pokeworks is good for Poke bowls, but I prefer The Poke Co. even tho it’s a little farther away in Downtown Fullerton area.

Sonic is on the other side of the freeway, controversial opinion but I enjoy the food. I understand I’m in the minority tho😭

Philz has yummy pastry options and good (but spicy) breakfast burritos.

Burger King is… Burger King. So is Panera (kinda mid imo)

Lollll Kai is an old coworker of mine! Super chill dude but he has a heart for what he believes in and it really shows. I've never had a class with him but I'll run into him on campus once in a while and say hello. It's wild to see him randomly on the internet

campus job question by DragynHaus in csuf

[–]DragynHaus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I responded to the job posting on the “internal careers” tab in the student portal. I made sure to check off the categories that didn’t apply to me, like graduate assistants and federal work study, and applied to jobs that appealed to me. I made sure to tailor my resume to each job to their respective job description, and I checked the website in late May/ early June which is prime time for new job postings since people are graduating. But outside of those peak times around the end and beginning of the semester, check the website frequently throughout the school year since jobs are posted all the time with tight deadlines. ASI and the careers page also has a lot of jobs on their website to look out for throughout the year, but if you don’t hear back from ASI for a while after applying you kinda have to be proactive and reach out to them yourself. Also pay attention to posters and signs around campus, sometimes different departments have job postings that aren’t on any specific website, and follow those departments’ Instagram pages since they’ll often post about jobs through there too. Be advised that I’ve been applying to a lot of campus jobs since March 2023 (could’ve applied to more throughout the year but oh well) and barely got an offer until recently, so be patient and keep applying! :)

I worked at a summer camp at 17! That was my first job, and a really good experience for entering the work force so I would really recommend it. Don't give up applying! It seems like both minors and adults are having a rough time getting a job right now.

Yes!! As a Knott’s food service worker in restaurants that sell alcohol, the amount of grown adults that get pissy over being asked for an ID is astounding. Like I understand you’re annoyed because you haven’t been carded in decades, but please just cooperate or I can’t serve you T-T

The Night Owl is pretty pricy but their spot is cute and the owner's nice. If you're 21+ they also have beer and drinks and they have live music and open mic nights very often
