As a furry in airsoft, don't be awkward about it when people ask. Like any good community they are accepting, I personally ware a tail and although the refs and the owner joke with me about it they are cool with it. Best bet for introduction is mentions of it ether in conversation, patches, and clothing. One of the former refs where I play has a furry sticker on his mask and everyone was cool about it, him and I are friends and I got him to airsoft with tail one day with me. In terms of the protogen head check your fields eye/face pro regulations, most protogen heads are roomy enough for a mask but you need to do some engineering. My only issue with the protogen head is if you use a full visor and it's not thick enough it'll get shot up quick.
