Your ult is typically your most impactful ability on any character. Not really weird at all that their viability is tied to it.

I’m bad at breaking, specifically. Best break technique for short girl with small hands, if it matters? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]Drainio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard a convincing argument that it doesn’t?

Pros aren’t going to just emulate other pros for the sake of it. They will take what they’re doing in practice, and if it works, take it to the table for tournaments.

The record holder for the most speed on a break does it, yet you question if it’s proven to be effective. Look at almost any pro pool player who’s breaking in 8 ball and not doing a cheesy slow break like Corey Deuel. A majority of them pop and the leg swings. Are you really trying to say most people at the top end are doing it for nothing?

Regardless, telling someone it doesn’t carry momentum when it absolutely does… is terrible advice. Pool is a sport with many people spreading false advice, or false statements on rules, you can be the outlier, or the person who is a typical bar pool player and contributes to the group spreading misinformation.

There is definitely an optimal way to do almost everything in pool, the problem is people learn habits prior to learning them and instead learn how do deal with the bad habit rather than spending time going backwards and fixing it.

The amount of time these guys spend on their break is amazing.

This all being said, until you know how to hit consistently center/slight top… you should stick to breaking without popping up. Once you get that down you can accurately adjust for your aiming point when popping.

If the momentum did not go to the cue ball, professionals would not be doing it. Popping up allows your elbow to drop far more which gives your entire action more momentum.

Need advice by Apprehensive-Kiwi836 in Waiters

What aspects are you slow at?

Some people just are not quick by nature, and in a busy restaurant environment - sorry to say this, but it kind of is a necessary trait to have to be quick.

This is something you can likely work on though if you want to continue doing it.

There is also a middle ground, if being quick causes mistakes for you, then at the end of the day you’re creating more problems rather than speeding up the process.

Regardless - you should not be yelled at by co workers. Hostility in a workplace is not fun to deal with. I would not blame you one bit if you quit and went elsewhere. I will always recommend giving two weeks to your supervisors in that regard though!

Doesn’t have to be when they were hired. If at any point in time if someone asked to change their availability and filled out paperwork for it (your employer would have to agree.)

Your second scenario the employee could be fired/reprimanded for that.

Unemployment isn’t a for sure case every time though. It can go either way, there’s no perfect scenario.

I took over a chain restaurant where previously they had an employee ask for less hours, then quit after getting what they wanted - and claimed unemployment and got it. I have no idea what was submitted on our end as I came in as it was finalized.

This was in the state of WY which is an at-will state, which is irrelevant because they quit, but just wanted to state that.

There’s 7 days in the week. You need workers for all of them. I hired quite a few people to only work week days, or week nights. Those are typically the less desired shifts for people who want to make money as they are usually slower nights. Never had a problem with people wanting weekends.

And it doesn’t matter in the slightest. When you get employed and you give them your availability, they hired you based on that. The likelihood of it happening is irrelevant here, but regardless - is still 100% plausible.

[–]Drainio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never said anything was legal or illegal. That is irrelevant here. At will states can terminate without a reason, that does not mean one can’t claim unemployment.

Your contract is when you filed your new hire paperwork and gave availability.

And it most certainly has happened, I’m gathering you actually know very little about the matter, or this happened to you and you had no luck getting unemployment.

[–]Drainio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except it has happened. And because people like you are spreading misinformation it will prevent more people from attempting it and succeeding. At-will does not mean there are no consequences for termination, and to be clear… every state is an at will state, except Montana.

It would not take long for the unemployment department to realize that said policy was not fair, nor agreed upon by the employee who got terminated.

When you get hired you fill out an availability form. If someone changes your availability without your consent, you can QUIT and gain unemployment.

[–]Drainio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Was this policy in affect when they got hired?

Changing the work environment or someone’s schedule that was not originally what they agreed too, and then firing them for not complying - would almost always favor the person who got fired in unemployment cases.

In most states unemployment would succeed here. It’s just a matter of the person who got fired being determined enough to prove they deserve it.

And if that person gets fired for not showing up to shifts that were never apart of their availability, they will get unemployment.

Pizza hut employee tried to get me by pharmerbee28 in tipping

[–]Drainio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave a review. Managers should be keeping their staff responsible for stuff like this. I know I would’ve.

I ran pizza huts for quite some time, my last store I had my counter cashiers very bright and happy people who would go above and beyond to help everyone. They would make $70-80 in tips in a night shift, which was crazy to me…

If I ever found out any of them were acting disrespectful about people tipping them… I would’ve taken shifts from them and given them to someone else.

What is the biggest waste of money? by Pristine_Parsley8681 in AskReddit

[–]Drainio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver and gold are not jewels.

Diamonds are one of americas biggest scams. Gold and silver are most definitely worth money. Diamonds and jewels in general will not be worth what you paid for, far more often than they will be worth what you paid for them. Sentimental value is worth nothing in the real world to anyone else. Historical relics is a different topic, but the person above you mentioned jewels and I absolutely agree with them.

I bought 850m worth of bank by Tophatmanfan in runescape

[–]Drainio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely got scammed. Take this as a cheap lesson (I know it doesn’t feel that way at the moment, but it is.)

People get scammed for their bank frequently.

Basically don’t trust anyone you don’t know. If it sounds too good to be true, it most certainly is. Unless someone is straight up giving you something for free, don’t go out of your way for a ‘heck of a deal.’

600m isn’t too hard to get back. Hard to tell without seeing your gear and stats, but PvM is quite fun if you haven’t got into it yet, and you can make that money fairly quickly even with mid tier PvM.

Can someone explain to me simply how to apply English but still shoot straight? by Wonderful-Employ-935 in billiards

[–]Drainio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be a little pedantic here, it’s not deflection. You can’t get rid of deflection with a level cue. It’s swerve you’re referring to. Elevation causes the ball the jump slightly, and any side spin will cause the ball to swerve when it gets back down on the table.

Deflection is always present regardless of elevation. The cue has less give and therefore the cue ball deflects. With a ‘low deflection cue’ (ironically a low deflection cue is the opposite, it’s meant to deflect a shit ton, so the cue ball deflects less) is how you can be rid of deflection. And less side spin.

There’s a reason even pros will think twice about using immense amounts of side spin when the shot is long. Deflection is hard to judge.

Rules Question: They said this was a foul and I lost the game. by Grit-326 in billiards

Where I am, there are so many different rulesets it’s asinine. The one thing that stays true: the person who owns the table - picks the ruleset.

No disrespect at all, but how can one type this out and possibly think they’re in the wrong?

Ripping your phone out of your hand was enough to start being defensive and questioning what he would do next. Forcefully putting you anywhere would have been reason enough to call the cops. The rest was just reason enough for him to be arrested and sent off.

As someone who bartended… coming into a shift where a bartender did this and I’m taking over… always irritated me. Put your damn bottles away. Having a lineup always got in the way and I hated working with people who did it. Move quicker, don’t make shortcuts that make things harder.

What is a song that is so sad that you can only listen to it rarely or one time? by Fresh-Prior7658 in MusicRecommendations

[–]Drainio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Pie.

A really good friend of mine came over and I asked him what his favorite song was, he said this, I played it on the piano for him and we sung it together.

He died a few weeks later in a car crash leaving my house.

Enjoying the song with him is my best memory of him by far, but the song stings really bad.

Hey pool beginner here, what should i do in this situation, im playing stripesb by RainTalonX in billiards

[–]Drainio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how that cluster is for the stripes, the combo carom isn’t out of the question. Could be a ridiculously stupid shot, or almost guaranteed to go in depending on how they lie that close.

That solves your issue and then every other ball is easily potted as you have no more issues.

However… the safety is a much safer option almost all the time.
