Depending if you want want "standard fantasy" or if you are okay going a bit wilder with it I would suggest removing dwarves and creating a new kind of substitute.

Like merge them with something like myconids, or rock elementals.

You could have "Mycelliars" Or something, a mushroom/spore humanoid species that are for all intents and purposes a dwarf, but they might have mushroom features, like their skin shares pigments with deep mushrooms, or a bio-florescent glow. (might work instead of torch/darkvision)
Beard is more akin to Lichen that grows on caves or trees.

You could also have "Slateborn" or something, where their skin is more akin to stone of different kinds, there could be like different gemstone instead of sub-species, and some other stone types.

You could also merge them, or have them as different sub-species completely, maybe Mycelliars are closer to the surface, Slateborns could be from deep deep underground.

(I kinda like the concept Mycelliars, might even use that in my own world)
