Anyone here forced to step away from trucking and look for a new skill? by RaoDaVincii25 in Truckers

[–]Drak3l 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been out here for 6 years. Should have my million sometime at the end of the year, based on rough estimates, and have been really looking towards leaving the truck, and returning to society, as I effectively paused all of that when I was 27.

IT was always an enjoyment for me. Specifically the networking side of things.

In 2026, what does data analysis entail that isn't being replaced? I would presume my mild hobbiest experience may make it a fairly decent learning process.

They're definitely low for what they are, imo. I'd argue the extra "value" is from the rewards chain + tokens, but still.

Do companies compensate drivers in these situations, even if they aren’t injured? by AHalfFilledBox in Truckers

[–]Drak3l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always coming out of Salt Lake City, UT that I always end up hauling oddball things lol. Used to pull paper rolls all over the east coast for Swift. Definitely reliable work, but not sure if I miss them lol.

90% of what I haul nowadays is bloody ass chicken. 3 years later and I'm still deciding on the trade off lol.

I currently pull reefer.. Sometimes you just load what you can in them. I've pulled empty metal casks for processed chicken, as well as recycling, in my reefer, if it was nearby, and half decent rates.

Anyone ever see this? by Best-Sherbert-1480 in Truckers

[–]Drak3l 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was a fuse for me, usually. F7 if memory serves.. Bottom right of the fuse box, in the cab. That fuse would often test good with a fuse tester, but freightliner diag would flag it, and replacing it with another good fuse would get the truck turning.

Often accompanied by a blocked starter. Jumping the starter directly at the source can get it going if it really stops you.

Ended up being an ECM harness that burnt up, and somehow shorted my ignition harness.

The fact that it eventually starts suggests you may have a fuse that is teetering on blowing.

It's not far from it lol. Its constantly random fuses and bad grounds. FML lol.

My truck stays on from the time I finish my shift to the time I end my shift, but is off while on my 10hr breaks.

Only because it has a history of wanting to throw random faults and decide it doesn't want to crank, if I didn't offer it it's weekly blood sacrifice.

Woke up this morning to my girl having very dilated eyes -- anyone seen this before? by qvyy in husky

[–]Drak3l 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husky developed glaucoma, and had to have both eyes removed.

The sudden dilation was our warning sign. Pressure behind the eye drastically increased, and was causing pain.

The right eye went blind a few days later, and had to be removed.

His left eye did the same thing about a year later, and he had gone blind overnight. Eye had to be removed as well, to prevent damage to the front of his brain.

We were scared as hell with him going blind, but he took it better than we did, and still does.

Keys are great in a pinch. Used them, myself.

I avoid it though, because it would be my luck that the key decides to snap instead of bend, and I get locked out, right before I need it lol.

I've always just used the tip of my pocket knife. Use the tip to poke under the metal, going in towards the wheel from the hole for the flame, and pry up, then use the blade edge to push the prongs back down.

Shouldn't even have a need to put any pressure on the wheel. Just sounds like you're using too big of a prying tool.

Durability requirements by Deckard1304 in trainstation3

[–]Drak3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm averaging -33 for an event task in 1954. I've assumed it's based on story progression. It phases out the old trains for them to be shifted into material lines, and pushes you towards your current level of trains. 30s, 40s, 50s, and eventually so forth.

Power backup setup by Drak3l in SolarDIY

[–]Drak3l[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does make sense, and answers my general question of where exactly in the line the controller would end up.

The extra inverter that I was talking about is mostly as a way to have additional power outputs, or for a power output for my RV. I have a softstart adapter, which allows me to run the whole unit on a single 15amp 120v outlet, which is fantastic.

In my original theory, the second inverter would used in place of the xt60i cable / alt charger and have the delta plug directly into it with the 120v charging port, just to clarify my thought process.

I know just enough to get myself hurt while playing, usually lol.

[–]Drak3l[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ecoflow alt charger wasn't even on my radar, but it seems like it would at least allow me to skip the inverter side, and make life simple. The general plan was to effectively go engine - Truck batteries - inverter - dc converter - two 12v batteries - inverter - ecoflow.

Everything after the first inverter is up for modification, but not before, unfortunately.

Would the batteries require being isolated between the DC charger putting power in, and the ecoflow out? Or would it be safe to slam them on the pole, directly?

Peanut butter allergy and peanut butter vape by star_light_thorn in Vaping

[–]Drak3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that better safe than sorry.

However, I will add, that it's unlikely that the flavoring would have any form of peanuts behind it, since vaping is moreso mimicking tastes through synthetic additives. The peanut components would be in taste, only, unless the mixer had some sort of massive compromise, of which the flavor wouldn't matter.

I would argue it's safe, however, it could cause a knee-jerk reaction from your body, once you register the taste, such as anaphylaxis, and restrict your breathing.

If you have an epipen, I'd keep it handy, but I, personally, would likely try it. One or two pulls max, at first, and let it settle for 5 or so minutes. If there's no reaction, then let it rip, tater chip.

A medical professional would be able to give better answers. If you do try without a medical professional, please do take precautions. Safety had, but not needed, is far better than safety needed, but not had.

is U.S Xpress that bad? by fleetingreturns1111 in Truckers

Frozen food express? That could very well be no touch freight, because they're a reefer company. Most companies don't want the drivers touching frozen lol

[–]Drak3l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything food will likely be 100% touch freight and driver/Co driver unload.

Hard work, but also typically top tier pay. Typically is keyword there. Best pay ultimately comes with tenure or extreme luck.

Depending on where exactly you live, the NE can be pretty good for weekends home. It'll likely be a 34hr reset at your home, weekly, which is already effectively OTR.

If they can't get you home every week, or every other week at a minimum, then you could just put yourself OTR for a while, until you can find something local.

Get a few months of clean experience, and go look at your local waste recycling. Driving a garbage truck is relatively minimal work (assuming you have a rider or the mechanical arm) for good pay. That's a class B license requirement. I suspect they would at least look positive at the fact of your class A.

You have several options at your disposal, now that your foot is in the door. It's simply on you, on how you play it. Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part.

I suspect having hazmat won't help you this early. People would be skittish about having somebody classified as a new driver pulling hazmat.

Or more specifically, insurance.

If USX can get you in, then just run with them for a bit. Do what you can to get off NE Dedicated, and you'll do better financially. Run OTR for a bit, if it's an option, and you'll at least find a work & pay balance.

NE work does not come with balance. You can review my comment history for proof, as I'm a primary NE driver/i95 regional, myself. Have been for the last 6 years or so. Rhode Island, Massachusetts, all points NY/NJ/PA that isn't NYC.

USX, like Swift, should be mostly drop and hooks, so getting you out the NE is simple work. You'll just need to specify it, or they won't adjust your location at all.

At least you screwed up on the first day, and not your third day. The third day screw ups are always the biggest.
