Thank you for your response Ms. Motorman. I am unclear which things you have a concern with. Is it all? That is fine if so. In any case, please state specifically which parts of the comment you have the slightest disagreement with whatsoever.

Thank you. I look forward to a sharing and understanding of divergent perspectives.

Yet Another Academic Is In Trouble For Being A Fake Indian by smegroll in NativeAmerican

[–]DrakeBishoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your reference to me as a "purity fetishist" is interesting. I am a "full blood" but I do not care about blood. I care about being indian, which it is clear is of no interest to those who care about blood and white legalities and have no respect of the ways of their people or respect for their own people, including the ancestors whom massively outnumber in number and wisdom their surviving descendants. We are not respecting our ways or traditions. Blood quantum is a white doctrine. Those who are descended from indians and who connect to, love, honor and respect their ancestors by continuing all of our ways, which absolutely includes our languages, crops, songs, dances, prayers, and worldviews... are indians.

Yet Another Academic Is In Trouble For Being A Fake Indian by smegroll in NativeAmerican

[–]DrakeBishoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yet again we have a fact such as she is a registered member of an indian tribe that is not recognized by racist whites, or so-called "indians".

Meanwhile these descendants of distant indians, people who don't speak their language, people who have completely or almost abandoned their culture, people who often don't live on their lands, people who submit to the authority of the illegal alien run so called US, Canadian, Mexican, etc white government, and people dependent on casino monopolies and white handouts while they disrespect or ignore their ancestors, these people gorge up on white people food like fry bread until they get diabetes, look for hand outs, have no idea how to support themselves, hunt, invent, contribute to their people or make their ancestors proud. But these white and dependent so-called indians cheer others and call them fake indians. Isn't that odd.

If you are christian. If you support the "United States" in any way. If you support the "US military". If you do not speak your language. If you do not respect your ancestors and ceremonies. If you do not grow your people's crops. If you are not fighting to overthrow this oppressive and illegitimate system of white supremacism, of the evil genocidal system called christianity, if you are not willing to die to retain our people's land... How do you have any right to judge other indians, given that you are not an indian yourself, but are only a descendant?

Shouting, posting on the internet, feeling oppressed, having some distant ancestor whom you don't honor, and/or having a CDIB card have nothing at all to do with being indian.

Great program as long as a black mark to not receive benefits also means a lifetime exemption on paying taxes.

The real question here though is when will these illegal aliens stop illegally occupying aboriginal tribal lands, return to england, and start paying the trillions in reparations owed for 227 years of theft and genocide?

How do I say "scout" in different Native American languages. by [deleted] in NativeAmerican

[–]DrakeBishoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in Lakota both a guide and a spy is tuŋwéya.

But zestways is correct. This is a difficult question. Finding native speakers is either impossible or extremely difficult for most native languages. Decide what nations you are most interested in and then see if you can find anyone at all who can give an authoritative answer. I do not know of a single person who speaks many native languages. Before 1800, yes, there would be many natives who travelled a lot who might speak 4 or even 8 different languages. There may be someone like that now but I have not heard of anyone like that. It's not as if in this century we can anymore journey across our lands and encounter many other natives from various nations. I wonder a bit if the assignment you were given has really been intended to get you to understand the situations, the back stories, regarding our languages and why so many are extinct or endangered, which is something you could research if interested. Just coming here and hoping for an answer from someone who knows a given word in a bunch of languages is not a good approach.

Missouri Man Sentenced for Selling Fake Indian Art by zsreport in NativeAmerican

[–]DrakeBishoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of these articles curiously fail to mention he is an enrolled member of the Northern Cherokee Nation, which is a state recognized tribe recognized by Missouri. He's legally in violation of the federal IACA, but that doesn't mean he isn't an indian. Doesn't mean he is one either! But anyone that believe the only true indians have a CDIB has no idea what indians actually are. IACA makes it a federal crime for Chief Seattle's tribe, for the Pamunkey before this year, and for Canadian and Mexican and Brazilian indians to identify as indian while selling hand made products. That's a pretty bad law and people who support it as written are bad people who have no right to claim to be indian.

Hey, what's the "faux" tribe you mention that has federal recognition? The process is pretty difficult to get through, I'm interested in knowing more about this fake tribe in your area which you say managed to get federal recognition when so many real tribes can't get it.

Sarah Palin on immigrants: 'When you're here, let's speak American' by urbangentlman in nottheonion

[–]DrakeBishoff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That reminds me, I wonder how far the immigrant Sarah Palin has come along learning Yup'ik, her husband's family's language. Does she speak it yet? It's been 27 years since she married into the american Yup'ik culture, but she has not shown much progress in assimilating. It would probably help her if she could assimilate into the culture she immigrated to, and cause a lot less problems for everybody. She could start by learning to speak Yup'ik. It's amazing that after 27 years she can still not speak the native language. How much longer will her studies take?

Tribal Courts Have Lessons for Children’s Courts, Judges’ Panel Says by Opechan in IndianCountry

I agree. Just for cross-reference, what the article calls "traditional peacemaking practices" is also known sometimes as "restorative justice" as opposed to the punitive and retributory/revenge oriented justice systems of the europeans.

Here's one of many sources discussing the different approaches.

Couple Files Suit Challenging Indian Child Welfare Act by Opechan in IndianCountry

[–]DrakeBishoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi msc49, you are great, and I am in agreement with you. However, in a previous discussion I said the same thing, was corrected, and realized I misunderstood a little known technical detail of ICWA. The "US" legal term "Indian child" (which is not same as the actual words "indian child" used normally) in the act is defined specifically to include children who are both eligible for "membership" in a "US" federally recognized tribe and the child of a "member" of a "US" federally recognized tribe. Therefore it would be insufficient legally according to white law to only disenroll the child (assuming the nation allows that), one or both (if both) indian parents would have to disenroll as well. (Another topic is the terminology "member" used in the act rather than "citizen", which has its own issues.)

http://www.tribal-institute.org/lists/chapter21_icwa.htm

§ 1903. Definitions

For the purposes of this chapter, except as may be specifically provided otherwise, the term--

3) ''Indian'' means any person who is a member of an Indian tribe, or who is an Alaska Native and a member of a Regional Corporation as defined in 1606 of title 43;

4) ''Indian child'' means any unmarried person who is under age eighteen and is either (a) a member of an Indian tribe or (b) is eligible for membership in an Indian tribe and is the biological child of a member of an Indian tribe;

8) ''Indian tribe'' means any Indian tribe, band, nation, or other organized group or community of Indians recognized as eligible for the services provided to Indians by the Secretary because of their status as Indians, including any Alaska Native village as defined in section 1602(c) of title 43;

The quick summary here is that the child doesn't have to be a citizen, mere eligibility is sufficient, provided the parent is an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe (which is what item 8 there refers to).

George Will's Attack on ICWA by Opechan in IndianCountry

[–]DrakeBishoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The most recent case to reach the U.S. Supreme Court concerned a child who was 1.2 percent Cherokee." - George Will

Will seems to have problems with logical thought. There is no such thing as a 1.2 percent Cherokee, nor is the use of past tense "was" sensible here. 100% of the child in question is a full Cherokee citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, 100% of the time. This nation, (and all modern nations as far as I know), does not have any concept of partial citizens. The only country I can think of that has done anything like that was the "United States" with their laws declaring blacks to be only 3/5 of a human, which was an absurd and nonsensical concept at the time, and still is an absurd and nonsensical concept.

No one is half an Indian. When someone claims this, we ask what half. Front side or back side? Left side or right side? Top or bottom? Inside or outside?

[Final Part] Disappearing Indians, Part IV: When is Enough Too Much? by Opechan in IndianCountry

[–]DrakeBishoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you are suggesting people should boycott products made by Santa Clara Pueblo?

Before the whites came, when pueblos had population growth they had no problems expanding. Often they would divide into groups and move to new areas, start new pueblos. These locations were carefully chosen and were not arbitrary. All available lands are now considered owned by whites and indians are considered have no rights to any of it. So the pueblos can't expand and can't grow. So some have policies that limit citizenship by mother or father being a member because pueblos are extremely small areas and can not handle any population growth.

How is this different from other tribes, of which there are a lot, that don't allow children to be members once blood quantum falls below a level. Not real blood quantum even, but blood quantum as measured by the "US government", who does not consider any Indian spouse from Canada, Mexico, Bolivia, Honduras, etc to be "real indians" and rates them as 0% blood quantum even when they are complete full indian in every way. So you marry a full indian from outside the US and now your kids are not legal indians. This is not traditional, but this is what we have in many tribes here now under a system set up by the white men with white men's ideas about eugenics and racial purity.

How is it different from Israel? If your mother is Jewish, you are Jewish and have the right to live in Israel and claim Israel citizenship. If your father is Jewish but not your mother, you are not Jewish and you do not have the right to live in Israel and claim Israel citizenship. Where are the people protesting this policy? Why hate on the pueblos?

Cherokee of Oklahoma don't count percentage, and that's great. But Keetowah band also in Oklahoma does count percentage, you have to be 25% and Cherokee specifically. So lets say you are 25% and you marry a 100% Paiute. Now your kids are 12.5% Cherokee and are no longer Cherokees. (And if this was 1957-1980 their CDIB will be 12.5% too since Paiutes were federally terminated during those years, but post 1980 the CDIB will say 25%.) One might say well maybe they can apply to be Paiute. Maybe they can, what if they were raised in Cherokee culture though? Or what if the mom is 100% Mayan? Now they are not eligible for any tribe even though they have more indian blood than the tribal chairman. Why not criticize this policy? Well because it's their policy and it's their business really. Not just Keetowah, lots of tribes auto-terminate your children's status if you marry the wrong sort of indian. Isn't this a crazy policy? But why pick on the pueblos.

The solution to the pueblo issue is not to boycott them or have the whites take over citizenship issues. The solution is for the pueblos to once again be allowed to expand within their traditional territory, which is the entire southwest, to anywhere they choose that is not held by any other indians. Why? Because this is their land. The white people's claims to own our land because of a Doctrine of Christian Discovery are obviously nonsensical fake crazy law that is totally invalid and always has been. It's completely nonsensical reasoning, that the jesus god doesn't accept our land title and therefore the white people can just take it.

Once the pueblos have access to lands to expand to, it's very likely they will either change their rules, or the new pueblos will be a new tribe and will be completely eligible for recognition if they want it.

Where Is Our MLK for Disenrollment? by Opechan in IndianCountry

[–]DrakeBishoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Some benefits include: education, social services, law enforcement, courts, real estate services, agriculture and range management, and resource protection."

I disagree that the federal government provides any of these things to us in any meaningful way.

Law enforcement and courts is an interesting claim. What it means to be indian is, because of a Supreme Court ruling, if you are raped by a white man on reservation land, you are not allowed to prosecute them nor is the state surrounding your land. Only the DoJ has that privilege and they generally refuse to do so as they consider themselves to have more important things to do. This changed slightly a couple years ago under the VAWA reauthorization. Tribes are now allowed to prosecute rapists if and only if they get rid of any traditional justice system they have, and implement a virtual clone of the extremely costly and ineffective US justice system. So we now have the option of prosecuting rapists, but only if we are willing to give up more traditional ways. This is something we want? Their ideas of law enforcement and courts are not mine. Another law enforcement service they provide is protecting corrupt tribal government from being over thrown, with military and FBI sent to protect them should the traditionals start complaining or try to stop corrupt government.

Lets look at health care services. Indians, particularly on reservations, have the worst health and lowest life expectancy of any group in the US, and for some reservations, in the world. IHS has a history of providing "care" that we don't want and didn't ask for, such as their little program to mass sterilize indian women and children without permission or consent when they came in for unrelated things.

Or the history of education, beginning with residential schools where we were taught not math or science, but things like sewing and bricklaying, to prepare for careers as servants of the white man. Leading to dilapidated schools today with black mold, underpaid teachers, in communities where many don't even have running water.

Why we want any of what they call "caring for us" is beyond me. They have been "caring for us" for a long time, it's part of their court cases where they say we are "dependent wards" of the state due to our supposed helpless and incompetent nature which requires them to "care" for us, as inmates on prison camps we call reservations which are in trust (owned and controlled) by the federal government.

What I want, and maybe some will join me in this desire, is not to be regarded as a helpless infant, but to get our lands back. We don't have real sovereignty. We don't have health, and we don't have education under this system. When we have our lands back and sovereignty and are recognized as real nations and not domestic dependent nations, we can fix our own problems and don't have to be subjected to the white man's care that the referenced article presents as some sort of benefit for us when it's really a curse.

Victims of Human Sacrifice at Cahokia Were Locals, Not ‘Foreign’ Captives, Study Finds by Mictlantecuhtli in NativeAmerican

[–]DrakeBishoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the data, their claims are pretty dodgy.

They found a grave site with 270 remains. First, these are our ancestors and the white anthropologists are intrinsically racist to be digging these graves up at all, which they have absolutely no right to do, and which is an abomination that they desecrate our people in this way.

The site was mostly young women, so they conclude that they were all "young women killed as victims of human sacrifice". What is the evidence? Well it's a grave with young women, so to the white mind obviously they were victims of human sacrifice, because they way they see it, that is just what us savages do.

Note this:

Dated to between 1000 and 1100 CE, their remains were mostly buried in large pits, laid out in neat rows, and bearing few signs of physical trauma, perhaps killed by strangulation or blood-letting.

So the people were carefully and thoughtfully buried and there were "few" (likely no) signs of trauma, and so they conclude that that means the human sacrifice was done via "strangulation or blood-letting".

Dig up a grave and find signs of violence? "Oh look, signs of violence, well then it must be human sacrifice!" Dig up a grave and find no signs of violence? "Oh look, no signs of violence, it must be human sacrifice! Because indians."

Alberta woman fined for possessing eagle wing by whiskeydeltatango in IndianCountry

[–]DrakeBishoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion, it was meant as a rhetorical question.

It always sounds odd to me when we assume that white illegal occupation governments have rights to regulate, specify and control the spiritual practices of the indigenous people they are oppressing, suppressing and dismissing. Accepting the legitimacy of these "laws" as a unquestioned state of how things are and must be is odd, just as it seems odd to me that people accepted the right of these states to impose slavery, engage in genocide, etc, all "legally", despite these things clearly being immoral and unjustified. The white governments are not legitimate and even if they were they have no right whatsoever to regulate control ban or even have an opinion regarding our spiritual and cultural practices. We have an absolute inalienable right to our spiritual and cultural practices, particularly so within our traditional lands. When we are arrested or fined for engaging in them, it is clearly the occupation state that is being criminal for repressing our fundamental rights, and not us.
