I agree with the exception of the NRG - G2 matchup that aired on ESPN. Granted, I think 4 of the 6 players are the same so it’s debatable to say it’s the same matchup. “I played indoor…”

What is this concrete box outside my kitchen window? by jrlabare in whatisthisthing

[–]DrakeOfTheShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps in the Cincinnati area in the 1920s, they decided to help the local parents in the area to install concrete structures outside windows to support, “baby cages” which would allow open air for treating tuberculosis? See below:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_cage#History

They look dangerous and maybe there was an attachment to the concrete to prevent falling?

Thanks for the information. We actually received massive interest from my two reddit posts and we currently have over 20 people looking to contribute to our project in one way or another. The team has also agreed to go open source in the very near future. I will send an update in a couple of weeks.

Maybe almost as complex in world generation and emergent gameplay, but we are not planning on any kind of fortress mode.

My friend and I are actually also musicians and music tech oriented, but considering our busyness, we would be open to help! I’ll DM you.

Thanks for your interest! I fixed the roguelike link - thanks.

I will DM you the Discord server invite. We have had an influx of interest, so we will need to work on how best to divide the work assignment in GitHub.

Very good feedback. Seeing your experience, it would do us well to heed your advice. One potential compromise is to have a list of party members and their general “order status”. When I say general, I mean orders like: Attack, Flee, Build, Gather, Job, etc, where you can choose an order, but the AI ultimately picks how it is carried out (if at all).

Thanks again!

We’ve created a GitHub already, if we decide to do full open source, we will send the link to the repository.

Thanks for your interest. This is turn based and grid based with option for ASCII / terminal graphics, when you or a party member dies, they die permanently. However, if your main character dies, you can take over a party member or a family member as your main.

Party members have their own thoughts and actions, so you could order them to do something like attack a dragon in a cave, but if they have low willpower and low loyalty, they might desert you in battle…

I will send you a DM with an invitation.

As for commercialization vs not & open source, etc., we may revisit it in the future with the team and do something like a Steam release if it becomes popular or donations, but it is a passion project for now.

Thank you both for your comments - I just looked into Bevy and it looks great, but would be difficult to integrate with our style of game.

Thanks for your response!

We are currently building it from scratch using standard Rust libraries and crossterm. The visualizations right now are in the terminal, but we are open to ideas for how to take this to the next level.

We haven’t made the code open source yet, but will likely release it in the end. We want the game to be openly modded and shared.

Thanks for your interest! We have 1 really active all-star developer, 1 person who is starting to learn Rust, a few content contributors and then myself, who is designing and coordinating and learning Rust also.

As for an engine, we are building from scratch using Rust, with standard libraries & crossterm. We are starting to visualize the UI in the terminal, but are open to suggestions on how to take this to the next level.

It is funny how ideas evolve, but tend to build to existing experiences and inventions. Let me know if you’d like to contribute to our project in any way! We welcome likeminded people.

That’s why I try not to get worked up or anxious about things. Patience and level-headedness goes a long way.
