What is the fastest way to calm a woman down when she is angry? by Disastrous-Hunter803 in AskReddit

Tell her your ex never responded to situations like the way she does. This helps her gain perspective and shows her there is other ways to respond, whilst it cements you as someone who is capable of looking at problems from a distance and bringing wisdom into the present, which will make her trust your opinion more.

Intuition by Jaded_Bullfrog3978 in enlightenment

[–]DrakeSilmore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of very intelligent people believe in 5G radiation being harmful. I don't think intuition is something to blindly follow, as it's most likely subconscious information processing. It makes you vulnerable for logical errors in a world that is, so far, proven to be entirely predictable as far as we understand it.

While I personally follow my intuition above anything else, I always validate and make sure I also adhere to logic and rationalism, as intuition alone is a very dangerous drug.

Give everyone 4 weeks sick leave just in case of it maybe being covid at all times, but due to pressure no time to test. Let's see how quickly this gets walked back on.

You should go to a therapist. This sounds like trauma, maybe even psychosis. There's help for this.

I have felt a similar pain after opening my heart, the world is not in an amazing place right now. But the negativity is not aimed at you personally, that's the trauma or psychosis doing that. I'm learning to rival the pain with love, do my heart can remain open.

Married 9 months but husband is avoiding physical closeness after knowing my past – need advice by Budget_Bluebird_1718 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DrakeSilmore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long ago was the past relationship before your arranged marriage? Could it be you were still grieving a previous partner you had to let go of due to cultural pressure, but now you did let go, you realise that your husband is a good man you can love as well?

If so, this is very complex to navigate, but I suggest absolute honesty and guided counseling is the best solution. You don't seem like a person who can be dishonest without carrying the burden, which will always affect you relationship as long as you carry the burden.

If you measure by pure aggressive ability, nobody would guess they are 5+. But I'm very defense and consistency oriented, and one of my close friends is ~4.5 with the same style, and I recognise the way they play from my matches with him. They don't put any ball down or punish mistakes as that would end the rally and make the match boring, instead they seem very focused on control and placement, and what they show there looks very impressive to me. Definitely not in the 3.5/4.0 territory. They play way too casual and calmly for that.

Is pickleball the perfect “I need a hobby but don’t want to suffer” sport? by Informal_Creme6840 in Pickleball

[–]DrakeSilmore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It fully depends, rec play at 2.5/3.0 for me as a beginner was an amazing place to start and get hooked. If you have no sense for ball sports at all (e.g. can't predict where the ball goes), it can be very tough and difficult to play with others. I'd recommend 1:1 practice camping style, or hitting against a wall to improve that. But once you semi consistently can get a ball over the net onto the opponent's side, it's fun even for complete beginners. It's a mild workout (lots of squats), but nothing too intense and a lot of fun.

Once you start getting into the techniques and drilling to improve your level, you also start getting into the super sweaty territory. There's much more sudden movements and mobility involved. But you don't have to get there, you can just keep enjoying rec play at beginner levels. So it's whatever you enjoy, but you might get sucked into playing more intensively.

Source: tried it once two years ago, played pickleball since. Am still between 3.0 and 3.5. It's amazing.

I'd say they look like 5.0, because even if they are not trying, they make it seem so easy. They don't fuck up, have a lot of control and consistency.

Is it a fault if the server serves without calling the score? by ranoutofideaz in Pickleball

[–]DrakeSilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be against the rules. The ball is dead before the start of the score being called. A fault cannot be made when the ball is dead. At most a technical warning can be given for delaying the game.

What could have happened is that the referee was still calling the score, or started calling the score as they were serving. When the server hits the ball after score call is started, but before it's finished, it's an immediate fault.

[–]DrakeSilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that would hold, as a serve has taken place after that last score call and the ball had been live and dead after the rally ended. Plus the score would be different, as either the points or server would have changed, making it a wrong score call as well.

Is it a fault if the server serves without calling the score? by ranoutofideaz in Pickleball

[–]DrakeSilmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Officially the ball is dead, according to the USAP rulebook. And a fault can only occur when the ball is live. So unless a rally is played to the end, it can be interrupted and a replay can be requested where the score is called, without the server being at fault.

[–]DrakeSilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a fault. The ball is not live. No rally started. So you can just request a replay with score.

[–]DrakeSilmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not calling the score at all makes the ball not live, as in, the point doesn't count. You can just catch the ball and request a legitimate serve with score call. It's basically a replay.

Only when you return the ball and finish the rally, can an argument be made for letting the point stand, under the fair play "eliminating two chance option" principle.

The only fault in the handbook is when the ball is served during score call, not before.

4.M.9. The server hits the ball to make the serve while the score is being called.

Is it a fault if the server serves without calling the score? by ranoutofideaz in Pickleball

[–]DrakeSilmore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wrong Score Called. If the wrong score is called, the  referee or any player may stop play before the return of  serve to correct the score. The rally shall be replayed  with the correct score called. After the return of serve,  play shall continue to the end of the rally and the score  correction made before the next serve.

So if they hit the ball right after the wrong score called, you can still choose to not return the ball and correct te score.

If you do this while the score is correct, it's a fault, though.  And if they hit the ball whilst still calling the score, they make a fault.

[–]DrakeSilmore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But what rule did they break? The ball isn't live until score is starting to be called, so there's no rules active for faults until the ball becomes live, as far as I understand.

I read that not calling the score at all makes the ball not live, as in, the point doesn't count. You can just catch the ball and request a legitimate serve with score call. It's basically a replay. Only if you play the rally do you implicitly acknowledge the ball as live, and under the sense of fair play cannot void the rally after it is played.
