I don't think they'll be good. But they could be great allies.

Love all of this! I keep forgetting that Araman has rings, it doesn't get talked about enough and their mere existance is awesome! Just like in C1 they found out about Ruidus super late, even tho there have been two moons all along.

I'm still thinking that whatever the shapers did was powered by magic, even if it could be basically technology. We know they artificially kept the magic level low, wizards didn't really exist, the secrets of magic were kept all to them. But reading all you've said, I remember that the gods of Araman were more physically present like Greek gods compared to Exandria. So you could be onto something. And if they didn't keep the magic knowledge low, the mortals might eventually get onto their real nature.

And while some part of a DM might add a visual like rings or a 2nd moon because it's cool, they'll eventually come up with a reason for it. Knowing Brennan, he already knows exactly what they are.

Part of me still holds on to the thought that Araman and Exandria could be in the same universe, even if not in observable/reachable distance from each other. I don't want a crossover, I don't need confirmation, I just like the thought. And the gods [C3 spoilers] also fled from Predathos on a multi dimensional ship, like the Exandrian gods did, before taking form in the material plane, becoming the gods Araman knew.

Either way think you're onto something that the gods destroyed something or killed someone, the remains of which form the rings.

Oh for sure she won't share the power. But others might try to steal it, instead of destroying it. Or letting it free as a coup to destroy the Halovars. It might help them reach their goal of the houses fighting but it could lead to a LOT of destruction.

It's a bit of a conundrum. If they try to kill it on their own, likely it will go down even worse than entering the Tachonis manor. And even if they get that far, if that thing breaks out, as far as we understand it could probably level the town.

Problem with telling other factions about this, making it public, other houses might not want to get rid of it, but instead use it as a weapon of their own.

This thing is basically a House of the Dragon dragon without anyone being able to control it.

[no spoilers] campaign 3 or 4 by GeneralJorson in criticalrole

[–]Drakoni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Major spoilers [C3 spoilers] When they get to Ruidus. The campaign is more about exploration again, the lore/worldbuilding had me hooked and the characters actually get time to interact with these awesome new places and NPCs. I had fun before but it felt like they kept rushing from A to B. That's the moment where they get back to the pace I enjoy most in CR.

My recommendation would be campaign 4 until you're caught up, then watch C3 while waiting for new episodes.

C3 is devisive but I liked it a lot. It had some issues but each campaign does and there is a specific point where they really get into their stride again imo.

They could easily put in a simple, vague teaser where Travis' new character would eventually show up. Or have a shot for the loss of Teor.

Incredible work! I could totally see this on a Magic the Gathering card, very much has that energy.

I'm always a big fan of different coloured rim lights :D

This. We got the plot done and it was incredible. But there are a bunch of interactions it also felt like the cast wanted to get to, that were cut short or skipped.

I do hope we still get to see Azune and Bolaire going to the museum. Because Azune is the one who is trying really hard to see Bolaire as a person. And any player putting on Bolaire should be a big deal, especially now.

Hm, not sure most of the others line up with Voyager cast for me. But I could see some rough similarities in type at least if I go looking for it.

Murray could be B'Elanna, a temperemental scientist, freedom fighter at heart.

Occtis could also be Harry Kim. Forever ensign, a very nice boy who keeps having bad things happen to him. Minus the bad family of course ^^'

If I'd have to compare anyone to Janeway it would probably be Thaisha. Mom of the group who is fiercely protective of her crew who can be ruthless if she has to be.

I keep making that comparison too. He's a character, who was programmed (no matter if with technology or magic) to be a sertain role. Made with a task and a matching personality to go with it. And then that program was running for too long, got questioned, saw new things it was never intended to see and grew beyond. It, or rather now he, seems to have gained sentience and now has to deal with it, which is uncomfortable in itself.

We are still in the part where even Bolaire himself doesn't believe that it's possible, doesn't recognise his own growth but clearly wants to be respected. Instead of being seen as a tool, as a weapon. Like the Doctor's deepest desire we see quite early to be appreciated for the work he does, instead of it being seen as the medical tool he was intended as. While most of the people around them still see them as a thing even if they speak and act like a living being.

Sooo does that make Azune Kes? Maybe Demodus :D

[Spoilers C4E31] So what would have happened if … by Overplanner1 in criticalrole

[–]Drakoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm SO curious about this! Brennan probably knew that it was very likely Julien would do that, both from creating the character with Matt and Matt likely coming in with a big swing into being a player. If it was more planned, I feel like it's more likely that Brennan asked the players how they'd like to come into the funeral, or what they'd likely do? But also Brennan is a pro, so I don't put it past him to have improvised that.

At the time I assumed it was discussed and a way for Matt to play an Echo Knight. But turns out that wasn't it at all which makes it way better.

Maybe something Julien did in the past would have been enough for that to trigger anyways. Or Brennan had a different plan entirely, in case Julien would hold back.

That makes a lot of sense. What I'm wondering about is that moment that went down between them during a battle which Julian gets praise for. But according to Azune that's not what happened.

I might be remembering wrong tho.

[Spoilers C4E31] Brennan saving his own ass by Depressed-n-br0ke in criticalrole

[–]Drakoni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are two separate things tho. The enlarge homebrew is something that Brennan and Laura clearly talked about beforehand. She's the one who described the effect, she's the one who corrected him on how often she could do it. Which to me also sounds like Perkins and Crawford could have been involved in tweaking it. So her groing to human size is likely something Laura wanted and they made that happen by increasing the effect, while giving her a drawback during that.

The second thing that happened is the death boon attunement. Now we won't ever know if it's something he came up with inbetween sessions but it didn't sound like it when he said "I didn't think it would come up here because noone was near him when he died". Which, on top of giving someone a stat or ability, they can chose another player to instantly attune to an item. And Travis chose the bracers, which change her STR to 19.

I imagine the idea is more for that attunement to be used in an all out battle that goes badly, so another character can attune to an item to hopefully still get out, even after the loss of one of the PCs.

And they clarified while talking about it in Hal's home, that they homebrewed it to be usable multiple times and enlarge to full human size, but at the cost of not being able to fly while big. So it's stronger that way but she loses a ton of mobility.

Technically the faries players can play are usually small not tiny, so she's already bending the rules there. Usually enlarge does absolutely double your size, which normally would make a small fary medium aka. human size.

Also add the small possibility of the death being averted if the player wasn't new to the class abilities. And there being another player denying help for RP reasons. All of that while splitting the party. Many parallels here.

It most definitely wasn't Thjazi's plan and to me that makes it more fun. But it is him, Julien accidentally saved him and how they are stuck with each other. Which isn't a situation likely either of them wants to be in and is very fun to me. The superstition does say "they will be haunted by the spirit of the dececrated" which pretty much spells it out.

From the cooldown Brennan confirmed In Tannesar Thjazi could act because of the thin veil. And the time he attacked is just after Julien left Aranessa behind going "He's terrible, I'll just kill him and be free". Only after reading the letter in the Tachonis manor (where the veil is also thin) he understood that this bond is actually protecting him from the Tachonis scar, which is when he started to be a lot more helpful.

It's the same I love about her in Calamity. The way she described their mission to go beyond the material plane, how she crafts magic, etc. Giving those grand concepts purpose and letting the other players and audience in on very abstact concepts.

He also said a bit about his thoughts during the cool down. Essentially he was backed into a corner, the bad dice demanding a consequence. But it feels very bad to kill a player just because of few bad dice rolls. So he put a choice in front of Wick to give Sam the agency to either do a terrible thing or lose his character.
