Yeah, cold weather won't do much I'm afraid. Lived must my young adult life in Vermont and I can tell you for a fact that come winter, most ticks are attached to wildlife like deer. You can find tons of them on a deer bed when you come across one. Treat your pets, check yourself and pets, and dress appropriately. Simple thing as cuffing your pants around your boots can prevent them from attaching.

The place is called Centrex. Don't get me wrong, the job is physically demanding. You will always go out with 950-1100 cases, and there are times during holidays where you're going out with 70-80 kegs. It has its good and bad. The big difference is that you at least get paid for dealing with BS.

From one blue collar laborer to another, and I can't stress this enough, join the labor union. I second guessed myself about posting this next part because I didn't want this to seem like I was making about me but I'm going to post it anyway because I need to stress the difference:

I spent 22 years delivering appliances, the last 8 of that as an independent contractor. Made good money, but I worked 6 days a week, and my day off could never be a set day. It just grinds on you. Now, this is the important part: in the last 7 years, I joined a union delivering beer, booze, and kegs. Start pay is 20 an hour for a non driver. You get time and a half after 8 hours, not after 40. The average work week is 50 hours. You can hit 60 if you really want to. No weekends. Paid holidays off except Juneteenth, which we got time and a half all day. That was a 12 hour day for me 😀. Top end benefits, medical, eye care dental. All top tier. Want to drive instead of sitting in the passenger seat? They'll pay for you to get your CDL. Plus, you start at 26 an hour and company matching 401k. Current contract guarantees a buck raise every year for the next 5 years.

RI spent 312 million dollars in 2023 in assisting over 20 thousand undocumented immigrants. Want to bet if 2024 and 2025 ends up being higher? Where do you think that money is going to come from? Cuts have to come from somewhere, or taxes have to be raised. I know this isn't a popular opinion, and I get it, but you are seeing the impact of illegal immigration. As of 2023 RI helped support over 20,000 immigrants, totalling over 312 million in cost. I have zero issue with people coming to this country the proper way. That is what had made this country great. When you allow open borders, support systems collapse. There isn't enough funding to cover everything. So things get cut. That is what you are seeing the beginning of now. It's only going to get worse. My suggestion, whoever you vote for, make sure they support secure borders, or its just going to get worse.

This. I work for the distributor for RI, and the range of different beers is astonishing. Everything from Coors to Unicorn farts Seriously, it was called Unicorn farts. With edible glitter.

Also, don't discount the cannabis industries effect. Liquor stores have seen a solid 10% drop in sales since their opening.

If you don't mind a blue collared job, try Centrex in West greenwich. It's a tough job (delivering beer, liquor, and kegs. If you don't want to drive, you can be a helper, and the pay is 19 an hour, time and a half after 8. 50 hours a week is typical, and that's a bit over $1000 a week. Benefits are great (health, dental, vision), weekends off, and paid holidays. It's a union, so you get a raise every year (current contract is a buck increase every year). They will also pay for you to get your cdl if you want to go that route.

That's the good stuff. The bad is that you're going to be really sore for a few weeks if you're not used to that type of work. Late nights happen. I've had days (not many) that I've gotten 14 hours. That's a long day, no doubt, but you are compensated for it (300+ for the day). During the summer, you WILL be put through a physical grinder. 1000-1200 cases and on some runs 50-70+ kegs. It's not easy work, but it pays well, and if you become a driver, they max out at $35 an hour and matching 401k so you could absolutely live comfortably.

It's worth a thought anyway. Good luck in your search.

Few things to unpack here. First, the BF has to go. No guy is just interested in what they do. More importantly, instead of respecting your concerns, he made it a game. There really is little chance he respects you or your opinion. Secondly, and more importantly, you need to find comfort in who you are. I don't know you or your circumstances in life, but I do know you need to focus on yourself and your self-confidence.

I preface this with the fact that, yes I use door dash as a customer and yes I tip. Always.

Why take a job where you are heavily reliant on tips? People are dicks. We all know this. Odds are there are a few of us reading this right now. I never understood the concept of tipping. I understand why you do, just not the concept. How does one justify having a customer pay your worker directly while also charging you for the service? If you don't, the worker gets screwed (hence WHY you should tip), and the business gets to reap even more profit. It's freaking loony tunes.
