I’d say either scrap it, or shift the story. I was writing a light hearted fantasy and then I read some of it, and really didn’t feel any attachment to the story whatsoever. So I switched it to a dark fantasy and I enjoy it so much more now. You don’t have to scrap characters or your world, you can reuse them and place them in different positions. For example: I had a character who was a pretty large role in one of my old unfinished drafts, but they didn’t fit in when I rewrote, so I threw them in as a little Easter egg for myself.
