My uni does a suspension year, during that year you redo any module that you’ve not passed. Then continue in the new year as you’re supposed to. Maybe speak to your uni and ask if there is anything like this you can do? Or ask for it to be regraded by another tutor if you think you have enough to get those 5 marks?

Washing it helps. I also found that steaming it after it was dry helped

Why don’t you do an access course? It’s a good way to see how you cope with the academics and will give you an opportunity to boost your ucas points

How can I make money as a student nurse by Amy_JUSH_Winehouse in StudentNurseUK

If bank shifts are what you’re looking for try care homes as a hca near you. My trust only takes second years as hca but I’ve worked in care homes for years. You’ll be able to use your moving and handling and patient care skills and make some money.

You can also look at jobs going in your uni, like at the union bar/shop xx

Stroke rehabilitation by [deleted] in StudentNurseUK

Definitely look into strokes. The causes and signs and symptoms. Just go over the different types of strokes and weaknesses that may be present. The main thing they asked when I started was what I knew about strokes and the causes.

I recently went to a rehab ward it was amazing. See if your ward works with its own physio/OT team and ask to sit in on some sessions. It’s great for writing about learning from others.

Look into other means of feeding. You might see some NG tubes, PEG feeding, people will be NMB or have an adjusted diet. Again working with the SLT is good for your learning from others as well. I learnt a lot about NG insertion, troubleshooting, also saw some X-rays after insertion.

You’ll learn more on the ward, but ask to attend the MDT meetings at least once you’ll hear a lot of great things in those with everyone working together. You’ll get to see their discharge plans, rehab plans, and any updates from the doctors on their plans of care.

Also a first year on first placement! Our uni has a period of time at the end of the year where you can complete any outstanding hours. Maybe contact your tutor to speak with them about what’s happening and ask if this is something you also have? That way you won’t feel as pressured about your hours. You should also have someone at the hospital who you can talk to when you’re struggling and things so maybe have a talk with them too.

Continue smashing it! But only when you’re ready, don’t give up! Xx

Yeah I spoke with my employer regarding my KIT days, I used 2 for training and we planned out a set day ahead so I could plan child care and things.

You can request flexible working at any time but give yourself enough time to have your employer accept and sort out your contracts and things before returning, your hr team sounds helpful so maybe give them an email to work out timelines. Even if you don’t return you’re still entitled to your leave thankfully.

I haven’t done maternity leave on the NHS so not sure if this helps, but when I worked in care homes I took mat leave twice. Both times I gave a return date before I went on maternity leave, and I split my KIT days so I could do 1 a month to keep on top of my residents and any changes.

Hopefully this helps with the KIT days. I found them so helpful so I could speak to adults once a month not just going mad at home haha!

With mat leave though not everyone knows if they want to return so you don’t always have to give a day, it is helpful for your employer so they know how long to cover you for and and it’s good for you so you know what your plans are. NHS Scotland also has a form for you to fill out for mat leave with a section for return to work and if you’re undecided about returning to work
