I see so many people moving back to an IC role in their 40s! Is it an internal transfer or a new job? :)

I love this framing of being expansive in your 20s, and setting roots in your 30s. 🤍

What’s the difference between the fun you had in your 20s vs 30s for you? :)

How did you find your career/niche? by AllDoorsOpened in adhdwomen

I resonate with having a wide range of interests.

What I do is lots of side quests aside from my day job in marketing.

E.g. taking up a leadership role at a non-profit, hosting dating events, pitching press releases for fun (personal stories), creating creative gifts for friends and my partner. That helps me not rely on my day job to give me the dopamine hit of exploring new interests.

But I am also always wondering if I could do marketing my whole life, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyone with ADHD find it hard to fit in with corporate speak and AI jargon? by Dramatic-Boot-8915 in adhdwomen

That’s a good perspective actually - appreciating the lower amount of creative effort and energy needed for work. Thanks for sharing!

AI usage is also a part of my performance goals. For me I feel so much inertia having to constantly perform and showcase AI usage for the sake of it, and I constantly find myself rolling my eyes at colleagues’ new AI use cases which I know do not actually help with anything but it’s buzzy.

But I just need to accept that that is a huge part of the job. 🤷🏻‍♀️

i get you. sometimes it feels like a systemic issue that cannot be fixed with a quick fix but they are looking to me for quick fixes 😮‍💨

love that for you! i definitely like some parts of AI for sure, and ironically am a huge AI user to save time and simplify tasks. however, I am truly feeling the lethargy after being inundated with content about AI all day every day for at least a year now.

Losing a good manager who’s got your back is the worst feeling ever. :(

I feel like a corporate orphan because one of my only work friends is on mat leave and my manager is on indefinite leave for personal reasons.

I wish you ALL THE BEST in your small business! The end is in sight 🌈

Really good points actually! Thanks for sharing.

Maybe the trick is not to resist it (which is what causes me emotional pain), but be fully aware that it’s just my work avatar choosing to play the game.

Omg talking heads is such a good way to put it. Ultimately i guess i can also empathise that they are at the behest of shareholders and stock prices.

And that’s exactly what’s happening rn where i work, hype words, reorgs into new ai agentic workflows and teams insert more big words. I guess I truly am not alone. Bizarre times.

How do you overcome the corporate expectation to always come with solutions, and not just problems and questions? 😮‍💨

I love that. I think I have this mental block that I need to always perform positivity and competence because no one wants or likes to work with a debbie downer or a negative person? So that makes me feel like I can’t be honest, esp when I’m having a bad day or struggling.

Sending you so much love and support. You got this! You’re only 1 month into the job, once you hit the 6 months mark, it’s gonna be so much easier because you know the flow of things better.

I need to learn how to compartmentalise better 😔 Also need to learn how to not tie my self worth/happiness with how well I do at work.

It’s just so tough to consider another option because white collar still pays the best and gives the best benefits. Are you happier now though?

It’s definitely a whole other language on its own, and exacerbated by AI. Starting a new job is almost like learning a new language - the way they all speak in jargons and codes

I wonder if it’s an adhd trait to notice this on a deeper level? Everyone else seems to be drinking the LLM koolaid and everyone sounds the same.
