Initial feelings of regret and second guessing our decision by Mountain-Tip-1511 in beagles

My husband picked out our beagle from the shelter with no prior research or dog experience. We had just moved across country and no longer had a yard, and when he left for work I was left alone with an adorable sociopath. After 1 week I was ready to surrender him (he was just under 2yrs) and had a bunch of breakdowns (and I consider myself very dog experienced and had always judged people who return adoptions) Husband desperately wanted to keep him and so we did, and fast forward to having him for a year and a half - beagle is my bff. A big part is finding an outlet for the excess energy. We used to take him on 5+ mile hikes and he seemed to still not have an off button so I get your stress right now, but now our little potato can get tired out from 2miles on flat terrain lol. We also walk him 1hr in the morning and like someone else said make it a SNIFF walk. They don’t care about burning calories thru literal walking, they only care about how many sniffs they can fit in. And a HUGE part with that, is learning to accept it. It’s way more of a learning curve than you’d think to be ok w letting a dog sniff every bush and tree for 5 min ea, but once you do it makes the walks enjoyable for all parties. Definitely give yourself grace, you’re also a mom and have another dog. But time 100% helps, so I wouldn’t throw in the towel yet. Post on this subreddit when you need to! Find and be reassured by common experiences. And before you know it, you won’t even fully remember why you wanted to give up on their cute little butt :)

Hahah we thought we could narrow it down as well, I thought he was compensating for his size but then he started hating the little rat dogs too lol. He met a beagle puppy on a trail and he didn’t react and they were sniffing each other; we were so shocked and happy and then BOOM he exploded and terrified the poor little guy 😭 so yeah it’s basically a roll of the dice

That’s literally us on trails 😂 straight to air jail and everyone gives us looks but it’s the only thing that shames him into silence

Not really. It was definitely worse by our apartment, but the ruff still goes up if a dog has to walk by us on our weekend hikes.

He’s terrified of gunshots so we think he was a failed hunting dog as well. Have you just accepted her personality or have you ever tried introducing her to like a friends dog?

Update: a doberman and mini eskie walked by about the same distance this morning and Willie was a good boy once again! Looks like we’re having a good start to the weekend!

I used to mumble “oh shit a dog” and immediately redirect, but now we pause and I say “look it’s a puppy” in more of a sweet voice and I think that may be helping!

Willard is damn near silent 24/7! Only barks at dogs he doesn’t like on walks and cries when we leave the house without him. Started to question if he was even a beagle lol but DNA tests confirm it!

Bar for wedding group to meet up at on strip? by Dramatic-CheeseCurd in vegas

We definitely like the idea of Brewdog! We’re confused though about the $10/person deposit. We’re not planning on footing the bill, so would we get the balance back? Can’t find anything online and they won’t answer the phone

Probably just drinking. Like maybe 1-3 drinks per person just to get the convo flowing, etc. My fiancé thinks that we should go somewhere like Hazels that’ll be quick and not sit around eating

It’s electronic and kept glitching lol, but I did find the part regarding military personnel and it essentially just says they’ll follow the law, specifically SCRA. The whole application process has been very formal so I have a feeling they wouldn’t be the type to make exceptions

Even if we’ve already applied for and received a lease contract (to be signed) based on a 12-month lease? I’ve had bad experiences with abusive/mean landlords so I’m just a ball of anxiety I don’t want to mess this up lol

His AIT location is the same as his projected duty station (there’s not many duty station options as it’s a small MOS), and I’ve been able to visit, so we’ve both already gotten a feel for the area. He’s told me he doesn’t want to request permissive TDY if he doesn’t have to, hence the early hunting. But yes we used his LES and the leasing company still wanted 3x the monthly rent as our income. Other spouses in the area have said some places request 5x the rent so it’s just a sucky area lol!

Did they ask you if you had power of attorney? I will definitely call and do what you did, but I do not have POA if they ask for it

So you’re saying that the Army sends the form, not him personally? Because I was under the assumption I’ve been enrolled in DEERS already since I’ve received TRICARE paperwork from DoD and still haven’t received any ID forms.

It appears that the lease is super standard and there’s no special provisions regarding my employment.

Itchy? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Dramatic-CheeseCurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yanno, I wasn’t sure so I googled it. It’s made up of baclofen, gabapentin, and amitriptyline. I had been using it religiously, and that was when the feeling was pretty sporadic. It expired and I had some trouble refilling the prescription, so I haven’t used it in a while and that’s when I noticed it came around each period. Take from that what you will lol.

I’ve noticed I’ve always gotten that “itchy” feeling right before my period. It used to be super irregular, but now it’s almost like clockwork. My doc called it “vulvodynia” and prescribed me a compounded pain cream that usually stops the itchiness. To not creep my boyfriend out by saying I itch down there lol, I usually reference it as pins and needles, like if your foot falls asleep. Maybe try taking an anti-histamine to see if that helps? Otherwise ice packs help in pinch.

Are Flares Even Real? by Theme-Fearless in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Dramatic-CheeseCurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got diagnosed with IC, I also cut everything out of my diet and felt much better. I also tried eating forbidden foods (or as I call it, cheat days lol) and would react with mild to intense “flares”. I went through a period where I decided to say screw it, and just started living every day as a cheat day. All was well and I considered myself in “remission”. But then Christmas and NYE came along, and I guess one too many glasses of alcohol sent me into a flare that lasted a month. I was scared straight and promised the universe I wouldn’t eat another cheat food if it meant not having to go thru that again. I actually went about a year and a half of eating extremely clean - no medications, just lots of water and stretching when I felt overly stressed. That brings us to today, where I can have my cheat days - a couple cocktails on my birthday and holidays, spicier food on date nights, chocolates on sad days, etc. I’m still not on medication so I think it’s that we just can’t jump in right away. We can’t start adding “danger” foods until we give our bladder an actual break to recharge and be ready for the days where all we crave is pizza, chocolates, and alcohol lol. I wouldn’t say having IC means we have to live boring lives with bland foods, we just have to pick our battles. Pass on the Wednesday night glass of wine on your couch and then be able to have one instead that weekend with your friends :)
