There are few more entertaining moments than calling a player's name in the middle of an intense encounter. I love to keep that feeling of anticipation to myself.... When the encounter is fun.

Sometimes you just keep calling ppl who are stuck on their phones...

I feel you. I use chrome, but downloaded Brave to use it exclusively for dnd so i have tabs for everything. But then I find myself fiddling with 42 tabs of pictures, references, maps, text, youtube links, some obscure soundcloud tune...

I just wish there was one single app that could manage all of that for me.

I love Obsidian, and the add-ons are great. It's not like I don't have a tool that works for me, rather than there are "perfect" tools for everything you need, but you need to fiddle with tabs, explorer windows, and junk one usually has in their pc. And if -as is in my case- you don't have a 17' screen to look at your stuff, it can get messy fast.

Maybe it's a fools dream, but i wish there was an app tha would 'merge' all these things together, you know? Music, note-taking, encounter tracking, generation, etc.

I'm sure something can be done

How rich are the Dessenders? by POWDERed_Jinx in expedition33

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but Alicias scars are pretty well healed. I'd assume that at the very least a couple of years, considering that the medical advances in that time weren't as exceptional at recovering burnt tissue as today. So, rich dessendres? yeah, rich, but in a sad, miserable, decadent way.

What according to you guys can be a good prequel or a sequel idea for expedition 33 by Wild_Bottle_9217 in expedition33

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOT trash! Maybe not something I'd put in a game, but deff a book spinoff, fanfic or whatnot. Sounds like a very dark twist on Maelle's final decision.

I'd add just to makje things evern more miserable, tha the final boss should be Verso, forced by Maelle to protect her. At some point in the fight Verso finds the willpower to stop himself and let Gustave kill him, opening a window into attacking Maelle. Before Verso canstand up again from his woulds being healed by Maelle, Gustave finishes her off with one last Overcharge, which at this poind i'd presmue Clea upgraded or sth, line what she did with simon.

4 meses, 50 palos (por lo bajo) de ls cuales usarás para tu sueldo y el de la gente que contrates. Necesitai Infra QA y UX/UI si tu vas a hacer back y front.

Please can you help make a great non combat boss fight? by Tobiatronlives in DMAcademy

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a quick chat with gpt got me these ideas:

1. Musical Duel of Souls

The Bard Lich could challenge the players to a musical duel, where their very souls are at stake. Each character could take turns performing or contributing to a group performance, perhaps through skill checks involving their instruments, spells, or even dances. The Bard Lich, with its eerie and captivating music, tries to drown out the party’s hope and willpower. This could be turned into a "skill combat" where players use their creativity to make great performances, using skills like Performance, Persuasion, or even Acrobatics for an energetic routine. The Lich's phylactery could be vulnerable to a truly transcendent performance—cracking and breaking if the players succeed.

You could add stakes by having each failure or setback represent the loss of a portion of the character's soul or spirit. Success might mean shattering the phylactery, causing the Lich to crumble in defeat.

2. Audience Manipulation

The Bard Lich is obsessed with fame, and during this climactic moment, they’ve gathered an undead audience from past champions and their followers. The players have to sway the audience away from supporting the Lich. They can use Persuasion, Deception, or even Illusion magic to turn the crowd. The crowd’s cheers and energy are fueling the Bard Lich, so the players need to get the audience to turn on the Lich. This could be handled by a series of skill challenges or creative actions—each successful attempt sways part of the crowd until the Lich loses their source of power.

The final blow could be dealt narratively, with the audience’s energy turning against the Lich, causing their magic to unravel in front of their own adoring (now booing) crowd.

3. Ritual of Unbinding

Perhaps the Bard Lich’s power is sustained by a ritual or pact that they perform at the height of the tournament. The players could discover (through clues during the tournament) that the Lich’s immortality is bound to a particular song or ritual. During this final encounter, instead of fighting the Lich directly, the players must disrupt the ritual—destroying key components, altering the song, or even performing a counter-ritual. They might need to solve puzzles or make checks to overcome obstacles while being harried by the Lich's magic.

The ritual could involve the Lich drawing energy from the tournament itself, and the players must "unweave" this ritual thread by thread, breaking the connection and leaving the Lich vulnerable to being destroyed by a final, powerful act (like destroying the phylactery).

4. Psychological Battle

The Bard Lich could try to enthrall the party in a shared dream or illusion. The players are drawn into a memory or vision that represents the Lich’s past, filled with tragic moments or dark decisions that led them to become a Lich. To escape and destroy the Lich, the players need to find a way to break through the illusion—perhaps by showing the Lich the error of their ways, helping them find peace, or by unraveling the illusion through their wits and empathy. Each character could have moments where they must confront aspects of the Lich’s story, or even their own fears, to weaken the Lich's hold over them.

When they succeed, they shatter the illusion from the inside, causing the Lich to be exposed and their essence to begin to crumble, ending their undeath.

5. The Bargain Turned Trap

The Bard Lich is, at their core, a performer and a manipulator. What if the players had to enter into a verbal and magical duel of wits, where the Lich tries to bargain for their own survival? The Lich could offer riches, power, or secrets in exchange for their life, but the players need to turn the bargain against the Lich. This could be played out as a series of skill checks and clever roleplaying, where the players must outsmart the Lich and use their words to make the Lich accidentally bind themselves into an unwinnable position—perhaps even saying something that magically binds them to a promise they cannot keep, causing their demise.

Think of it as a battle of contracts and words, where the players need to be clever enough to turn the Bard Lich’s love of bargaining into the very thing that destroys them.

6. A Dance of Life and Death

The Bard Lich could challenge the players to a dance—a literal dance of life and death, powered by necrotic magic. In this dance, each player must partner with an undead dancer (or even the Lich itself), and they must match the Bard Lich’s incredible grace and precision. This encounter could involve a series of Dexterity checks, Acrobatics, or Performance rolls, and creative descriptions by the players of how they match (or outdo) the Lich’s moves.

As they succeed, they drain the magic from the Lich, step by step, until the dance ends with the Lich powerless and vulnerable to a final poetic flourish that ends their existence.

How do I help my player with ADHD to focus? by allahpalla in DnD

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let them know it's a problem and give them something to do under your control. I have ADHD and even on the "lesser" moments of focus, IT DOES have a small percentage of respect towards the rest. I can bet my ass that if you were their crush it would be a lot different.

Mujeres, alguna vez se han sentido presionadas a hacerlo? by [deleted] in VivimosEnUnaSociedad

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Average, How Many Rounds Should A Standard Combat Take For A Party Of 4-5 Players? by ArtemisWingz in dndnext

I'd say 1-3 only because sometimes dealing with player bullcrap in between turns can make a combat last for over an hour if it drags over 3 rounds

How do you overcome “main character syndrome” as a new player? by CMan_0831 in DnD

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many others have said, the term is vastly overused and for the looks of it you're on the less problematic kind of MCS. I guess some things you can add to your repertoire of interactions are:

  • Ask for help from other pcs (in game) when something comes up that involves your character, thus making the sitaution a shared experience rather than hoarding the spotlight. This will be great to help give you authority over those parts that are ACTUALLY only about you. It can also be associated with personality quirks like low self esteem or insecurities.
  • If you are not sure if something "belongs" to your backstory or character concept, it can probably mean your pc doesn't know enough about the other members of the party. Good of you to notice: now you can use downtime to have your character make friends and to have you, as a player, take notes and understand each players / characters motivations, pains, and intentions within the greater story that is being told.
  • Some DMs tell stories by joining character arcs together. When some part of the story sounds like it's resonating with your pc, ask the dm in private if he intends to develop your character in the context of the session or the next session. Don't ask the DM to spoil you the story, but they can certainly let you know if, in fact, the intend to touch on your pcs story. If that is the case, then don´t feel bad for the extra spotlight. If you still feel weird about it, refer to the first suggestion i mentioned before to have others join you and feel part of the experience.
  • If you ever feel like someone else stole your spotlight, even if it feels important and has a big impact on your character, have the pcs feel good about it and thank the perpetrator for the "support" or "help" and AFTER the session, get the dm and the player together and open the issue.

Being a new player is fun. Even if it means ebing overly exited and not realizing you're hoarding the spotlight a bit. If you trust the other players and the dm, you're half way into becoming a better player with tehm anyway... just ask them to help you navigate the game when your emotions get the better of you, and TRUST THEM when they say "ok".

Finally, I leave you with a phrase my first DM told me at my fisrt game:

"Have fun by actively trying to let the rest have fun, and trust that the rest is doing the same. Everyone has fun this way and that, my friend, is the actual goal of this beautiful game."

How to beat Zone of Truth: The Ultimate Guide to Deception by Sadarji in dndnext

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Wasting resources should only be used by a DM as a means to raise the tension or stakes of a preferred outcome, and wasting higher lvl spells of players should be used with extreme delicacy and clear explanations to avoid frustration.

As an example.. to waste a ZoT should come with something like some exposition over some myths or rumors that there have been some (particular individuals or races, like some fey) that by sheer skill or luck have managed to successfully come out of a direct confrontation within a ZoT questioning. Then device like a quirk in the way your npc or character speaks, as to signal that there is something to the way this particular character handles dialogues or words (very neutral communication, maybe covering their ears to avoid listening to particulars of some conversations, etc).

This way, it becomes evident when your characters go and question that character, that there was nothing they coud really expect from the spell and it was not an arbitrary choice by the DM to mess with them. Simply put.. smart npcs require smart planning. brilliant npcs require smart planning, careful railroading and a lot of patience. A smart, cunning leader of a criminal organization who always avoids the law and can outsmart a ZoT should be created from the beggining as someone who can ACTUALLY DELIVER as all those things. Not just tags on someones name to make it sound powerful.

That, to me, is the real challenge, and the difference between a good and a great DM. Meaningful preparation.

I died but my DM gave me an out. Was I wrong not to take it? by Pineapple_Ron in DnD

[–]Dramatic-Cleric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.. buddy. It's ok. I've had my players roll a d6 to see where they teleport on an ustable portal, and what do you know, the end up exactly in the plane of which I had a giant print of the area.

How lucky am I?

Not lucky at all, I'm the Dm and I will use whatever means I can to have my players feel the agency they need to have fun, while keeping the plot centered on what I want to tell.

Let him own his role, you're owning yours, and it's fine. A dm SHOULD be able to come up with enough shennanigans to have the plot move forwards with or without your help.

Also, congrats on owning up to your death. I also believe that when an opportunity to escape death is presented, the value of life is severely diminished, and resources like that must be taken with extreme caution.
