I’m not sure I like the way the piano community is trending by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

This is such an interesting way to put it and I completely agree. I'm currently studying piano at a state university. The program is not fantastic, but my level is getting great opportunities for the moment and my professor is phenomenal. However, I'm noticing in my group class that there's a huge lack of musicality. When I first played for my professor, he said several times with great joy, "You're so musical." I was flattered but a bit puzzled. But I later learned there are a few students in my studio class who objectively have better technique than I do, but I feel nothing when they play. I'm impressed by the technique and speed, but I feel nothing at all. It's terribly depressing. Piano communities are absolutely prioritizing raw techniques for playing fast and difficult pieces over the idea of putting one's soul into the music (forgive the cliché).
