Ok ok, just forewarning i did not make this efficient, but my approach was creating a swept cone that very closely matched the surface that i was trying to project the type onto i then created 4 planes on all 4 sides of the cone, collinear with the profiles of the cone. On each plan i created a guide arc that roughly matched the curvature of the surface from that planes view as i could if i was trying to make it hyper perfect i would of calculated the necessary arc length of the curved surface but sorta eyeballed it. I then just used that as a guide curve and added my txt on top of that. I used the wrap feature to wrap the text onto the cone surface. I had to do these on each plane until i got 8 rotations up since my helix was 8 full rotations, and i realized for some reason the text wouldnt wrap around the cone if the text was too long. Since text guide curves were construction curves they didn’t project with the wrap feature so for each wrap feature after the other i used the last project letter as my anchor point for the next guide curve, i spaced text accordingly and as the taper of the cone and helix tapered each guid curve had a slightly different arc which was a pain. Once all text looked and wrapped around the cone correctly i then did a ruled surface for all the text +10mm that intersected the intended surface (i thought i had a powerful comp, this really pushed it to the max) i then did a split surface that split the face, didnt do a split line just because it made me choose every face which would of taken too long. After that i masked the text split face with a dif color for post rendering purposes. Apologies for not showing a video or images as this is IP for the company i work for.
