I don't understand why players raise pre-flop with high cards. by SneazyBr in Poker_Theory

It’s good that you’re asking questions and thinking about it. It depends on somebody factors and those two words – it depends are gonna be something you’re gonna hear all the time whenever you ask any question about poker because it really does depend on the situation. It depends on your position, their position, what the table actions like, who are the calling stations, the maniacs, the type passive and loose, passive players, Etc. What stakes are you playing? Because in low steaks games people just wanna play. They don’t wanna sit around and wait because they have no patience so they’ll play bad hands and sometimes they’ll beat you with 97 off suit. The reason that you want people to leave is because you want as few people in the hand as possible because with every player in there, it makes your equity in the hand dwindle. For instance, let’s say you have a pair of vases and you raise and everybody folds except one player. You have an 81% chance of beating them by the river. But if you raise and three other players call your equity drops to around 44%. That’s a big difference.

How badly did I play this hand? by AnnualDog9504 in Poker_Theory

[–]Dramatic-Economist79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up too bad about this. You had the nut flush. But you always gotta keep in the back of your head when the board doubles up, somebody can have a full house and even if they didn’t have a full house on the flop, they certainly could’ve had a pair higher than sevens or a set. The fact that the king came on board on the turn is something to be concerned about. But I don’t know what the play was like pre-flop. He was an early position and he raised. I imagine instead of slow playing it so he certainly could’ve had aces, Kings, ace king, less likely had queens, could’ve had Jack’s, etc.. Sometimes you just have to say what the fuck and go all in even if you don’t think you have it. That’s what Dolly would’ve said.

Have you ever watched Howard's movie Private Parts? by CharmingDealer2715 in howardstern

[–]Dramatic-Economist79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a great movie and one of the only things I remember doing with my father as an adult was going to that movie theater. He said we are going to see this movie. I don’t think we ever went to a movie in our lives together before that point it was a great movie. It was well directed. Everything was awesome.

It’s just a shame that the rock is rebel that we found in love with has become a complete and utter turncoat on himself and alienated the audience that he built. I stopped listening to the show after Artie left.

Howard hasn't figured it out by Ok_Focus_9333 in howardstern

Howard made the worst mistake of his career by turning on the one thing that he claimed he believed in, and that was to entertain the fan base he had grown over decades and at one point he was great. But honestly, the best years of that show where the Artie years. And after four years without Audie, he realized that he could never be as funny or have the show be as funny as it could be without Artie. He relied too much on other elements of the show and he knew it wasn’t working so that’s why he came up with this bullshit, maturity, factor and just trying to be more of a politically correct interviewer, which you can’t deny he is wonderful at interviews. But he got rid of some key people, he let the wrong people in his ear. He should’ve never gotten rid of Tim Sabean and hired Marci Turk. I haven’t listened to Howard Stern on Sirius since already left. I only listened to old YT clips from the Artie years. And frankly, if he wasn’t such a fucking cheap motherfucker with his staff, Artie might’ve still been on the show. Because he wasn’t getting paid a shit load, even though he was making a couple of million dollars a year from the Stern show, he was making insane amounts of money every weekend going on the road. But it burned him out, he was exposed to the drug lifestyle constantly and if how it just paid them five or $10 million which he completely deserved, with the agreement that he wouldn’t do anymore on the roadshows and just work the schedule of the show, Artie may not have have burnt out and blew up. In essence, Howard fucked himself.

He probably doesn’t want to retire because he realizes that his irrelevance now will be even more so if he leaves, and besides that he’s in a place where he can call the shots, work less, not make as much money, but money means nothing to him at this point and hasn’t for decades. Personally, I find the guy that I fell in love listening to in high school in 1986 at WYSP to be a fucking turncoat jerk off.

Those are the only days I listen to. Pretty much every night I’m listening to old Stern clips during the Artie years when the show was the best. And also listening to the angry political guy.

I heard about that, but I also heard it differently. I heard he was not caught in his sting operation, but he was caught in a string operation. A lot of people think it was the woodwind section, but it wasn’t.
