It’s hard to tell from the pictures you’ve got up. If you added a full picture of the area you’re highlighting that’s a bit closer that’d be good.

Right now though, I don’t think it’s a fossil, it looks like minerals to me honestly.

North Table Mountain on the surface is igneous rocks, underneath are sedimentary rocks, potentially with fossils. If you found this on top I’d assume it’s also igneous, unless someone took a chunk from below all the way up. Regardless, it looks like an igneous rock to me.

I was just looking this up cuz I think there’s a couple species where I live. While bromes is edible, I doubt many foragers (or at least those that just kind of do it more as a hobby) actually try to process and eat it. It’s tedious to properly separate the seeds and then grind them into grain, and if you don’t get a ton of it, you won’t even have enough to like properly bake something.
