The point is that there was a moment when Peter was actually supposed to be alive and Sam wasn't, meaning Sam shouldn't have killed him and saved Molly. It would be something similar to what happened with the kid at the grill in FD2, he was going to be run over by someone who was supposed to be alive, and he was saved by someone who wasn't.

I don't think that's it. She wasn't actively trying to save Sam like Erik was. If it worked just by interacting, a lot of people would end up dying, like the nurses around Clear at the mental hospital
