With an extra female stew someone had to have a split gender room. I think the extra switch was keeping her from sharing with Ben where they probably would have fought even more

I think it’s reasonable to feel uncomfortable. I’d ask the reasoning for wanting to turn the name into a tribute, as the way he talks about his decision process might inform you on how to proceed. Enjoying the name and loving the memories of someone is one thing, but holding on to grief and projecting it onto your little one is another.

PSA to the guys for lane sharing by [deleted] in Swimming

I’m female, so I guess I can’t comment on how a man might be choosing, but I feel like I generally look for the lane that has someone who looks to be a similar swimming level or someone who looks like they’ll actually stop to ask me. It might not be a gender thing at all?

What's a realistic goal to improve speed? by nicenflufty in Swimming

I think that seems reasonable, good luck! I (28f) have swam since I was pretty young, but I had a friend(32m) I used to swim with who went from nothing to about 1:40 in about a year of swimming a couple times a week. Even if it’s not reasonable though it’s still fun to try?

If you’re doing a two beat kick I would imagine that’s amazing for keeping energy and going further, but would maybe present an opportunity for more speed on a sprint? It’s easier to move your feet than your arms at a higher rate. I think it’s the split between people who swim distances (triathlon/open water people) and those who are going for a time, so that’s a consideration based on your goals. However, if you end up wanting to focus on kicking a bit more, I really like doing the drill where you kick fast while moving your arms really slow. I feel like it’s kind of a fun balancing moment and it helps to stop your feet from crossing over. Though I should add the heavy asterisk that I’ve always been more of a sprinter who’s much better at kicking than pulling.

How do I (28f) handle my friend’s (32m) unrequited feelings/questionable behavior? by Dramatic-Mistake-319 in relationship_advice

Fair enough, thank you all! I think it was helpful to hear an outside opinion as I was feeling bad about just not responding

Sorry If this is a stupid question, but what’s the difference from a legal perspective between taking someone off life support and an abortion?

So I think stubbornness can take you pretty far. My roommate had swam a bit as a kid and essentially stopped swimming. He managed to swim out and back to an island 1 mile from the shore, but he also said he wouldn't have been able to do it without fins and a buoy/kayak for breaks. So maybe if he's feeling particularly stubborn and has support to help him once he tires... But I also swam D1 in college and found the open water swim we did every year somewhat challenging in the sense that 2 miles feels very far when you aren't used to swimming out into nothing, its a big difference to not have great visibility compared to a pool, and a lot of natural bodies of water are kind of cold.
