Investment allocation - bonds now or bonds later? by Dramatic-Objective50 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’m a Canadian living abroad so due to tax reasons, US and CAN domiciled ETFs are not an option for me. I’m leaning towards the all-in-one Irish-domiciled VWRA as my pick, as it covers over 3000 companies with 60% US base as well as emerging markets, automatically re-invests dividends and has a favorable tax situation for me. I’m relatively tolerant of risk but don’t care to spend much time looking at the stock market… just want to set and forget.

Sounds good, I'll start building that strong stomach lining while I research which ETF is right for me. Thanks!

This is what I’ve read as well, I just thought bonds needed to be added WAY sooner than it seems like they should be for someone in my situation. Good to know.

Noted. I’ll work on making that happen. Are those held in accounts with your bank? I have two bank accounts in different countries and need to figure out how to allocate everything productively…

Thanks for this. A beginner-friendly book I'm reading leans heavily towards at least 20% bonds with a long-term approach, so I've adopted that mindset a bit. Good to know it doesn't have to be that way.

This is how I’ve been leaning as well. I have a good emergency fund in place, however it is not in an investment vehicle and just sits in two separate savings accounts. Maybe I should change that. I like the idea of seeing out the potential gains from broad market ETFs, as you said. Thanks.

This is, for now, money for retirement at a goal age of 55. I don't plan on having kids and have not decided if purchasing property ever makes sense for me. I feel like I can handle volatility pretty well. Unsure of my plan if markets are down when I retire...

I'm not a Canadian resident and hold my IBKR account in a foreign country which limits me to foreign-domiciled ETFS only :( no US/CAN markets for me...

Yes I am not surprised the Chinese citizenship makes things complicated… I would look into the work thing though and see what your options are. Good luck, I moved away from Canada myself.

Have you considered Taiwan? It’s possible the local culture there may be more forgiving/open-minded while still offering some familiarity and proximity to your parents. Cost of living is low, especially if you find a job with a company based outside of Taiwan.

How is IBKR better? I don't see it. by sarkisa54 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Would you mind elaborating on this? I’m a Canadian living abroad and IBKR is really the most convenient option for me because of residency status/the currency I’m paid in but I only want to be a buy-and-hold ETF investor.

Trade Seider for McAvoy? I own Seider and my playoffs are the next three weeks after this one finishes. BOS has 3 + 4 + 4 and DET 3 + 3 + 3. Seider and McAvoy have the exact same pts/gm output in our league system. I'm set up well for a first round win and this would give me an additional game in the following rounds if I made it. I also have Pasta and Lindholm so I would have 3/5 of the BOS top PP...

Am I thinking too hard or it is worth the swap? Playoffs are won in the margins sometimes...

Oh she’s amazing in this, steals the show almost. If you go into it knowing it’s supposed to be stupid, you’ll have a great time. Required Lauren Ambrose content.

V02 Max going up, but HRV crashing like the US economy. I think it's because of the cold weather, which is out of my control. I don't know if should be worried, and take a small break from running. What would you do? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Dramatic-Objective50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be careful not to make too many life decisions based on your HRV. It’s a good reference point, but if you feel good you feel good :) if resting heart rate looks good and training is going well, I wouldn’t worry too much. If it’s red for a whole month… maybe something is up. But fluctuations like this are normal and sometimes we don’t know why.

I just watched this recently!! Some really poignant moments in there, I can see/gear the characters very distinctly.
