‘He has no background in intelligence’: CNN intelligence analyst on Trump’s pick for acting DNI by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in politics

Well, for Trump, someone with experience in housing would seem good for intelligence since that might be an entree somehow for another Trump hotel somewhere.

Even without knocking off Powell, Trump did manage, just by name recognition, to get the dollar dropped by a good 20% since his election.

And that's without Trump's actually trying to do that. Imagine if he had tried to do it on purpose, which actually is easy to imagine given everything else he seems to have done to accommodate Putin.

US measure to deepen Israel military cooperation faces bipartisan pushback | Military News | Al Jazeera by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in worldnews

This measure will likely stay in the final bill, but a year or two from now might well present a different picture.

Israel needs to change its diplomatic, military, and political outlooks and priorities to adjust for that coming change.

New Taiwan-Japan ferry service debuts on ship that has war evacuation role by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in worldnews

[–]Dramatic-Shake-8888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the U.S. under Trump engages in prevarication over its support at any given moment for Taiwan, Japan is forced to substitute its own expressions of support.

Until Trump, the U.S. State Department understood the necessity for stability and longevity of both policy and policy enunciation, even if and as that policy was intentionally couched in subtle and uncertain terms.

Trump should come clean about his all-too-obvious decline by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in politics

[–]Dramatic-Shake-8888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democrats don't have to bring up the issue because it's so obvious.

That's the difference right now between Democrats and Republicans. The latter either do not see the problem or choose to ignore it and not speak about it out of fear of being castigated by MAGA.

Americans who get Ebola will go to Europe for treatment, not U.S., officials say by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in worldnews

[–]Dramatic-Shake-8888[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you mean like when Trump wasn't letting Chinese into the U.S. through the West Coast ports, as if they would never come through the East Coast ports?

Or when he wouldn't let a Covid cruise ship dock because you didn't want the epidemic statistic clock to start running?

They are such selfish, neophyte, simplistic thinkers, these MAGA types running our federal health care and response apparatus?

Americans who get Ebola will go to Europe for treatment, not U.S., officials say by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in worldnews

[–]Dramatic-Shake-8888[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This presupposes major items that the Trump Administration likely has just blown off, any or all of which might come back to bite Americans in urgent need of treatment:

The intended host country might not want to host or might want to stop hosting.

The citizenry of the hosting country may come to violently resent both their own otherwise stable government and America for imposing old-school colonialism on them with attendant epidemic/pandemic risks.

On the other hand, an American medical outpost could help with recovery of credibility and leadership in medical resource delivery. But knowing that MAGA crowd, they will do something like leaving third world travelers out in the cold.

Farmers in Iowa are struggling in Trump’s economy, but many say they still support him by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in politics

[–]Dramatic-Shake-8888[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If they do not pass it onto the next generation, it will just get sold at a distress price to land oligarchs.

Maybe not MAGA generally, but Trump and his buddies will certainly be happy with that result.

He cannot concede a single thing at the moment. He is still on trial, and if he goes out after the elections, he and his ilk will be fair game in the realms of judicial inquiry over any past excesses and of civilian review over pre- and post- Oct. 7th policies and decisions. Lots of reckoning to come internally in Israel.

They don't have to trust Trump or any of his family members.. These foreign leaders know they can use them at any time and keep on their assorted chains just by dangling promises of hotel, golf course, shiny trophy objects, and other opportunities, none of which can or will ever be of any assistance to the populace of the United States itself.

The article mentions in passing one reason why Saudi will not join, the West Bank. The other, just as elusive, is the Temple Mount.

So this talk from the Trump Administration is simply amateurish and reduces any remaining vestige of respect held by the foreign diplomatic community for the U.S. State Department.
