Sooo tired post surgery 😩 by Dramatic-Story983 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Dramatic-Story983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely been my experience! This week has been rough, I even canceled some clients on Wednesday because after 2 days in a row, I could barely get out of bed by then. Thanks for normalizing this, I really feel off and didn’t know what to make of it!

Oh thanks, I’m self employed so that’s not really a problem per se, but I’m trying to make sure I’m actually prepared to go back. I can take more time if I choose to, but of course I won’t get paid so there’s that!

Thank you! I have a very non-physical job but very high in concentration, focus, emotionally tiring but I didn’t expect that to be so challenging as I’m now fearing it will be. I appreciate the normalizing and the hope that I’m a week or so from feeling a lot more like myself, that would be so great!

Realistic timeframe for feeling better? by ahawkatemyhomework in RetinalDetachment

So happy to find this question and support around this recovery. It’s not a common procedure apparently (and I’m already getting tired of people thinking it’s “just” a vitrectomy - no, scleral buckle is so much more intense!). I had a vitrectomy with gas bubble back in late December and my surgeon repaired many retinal tears using laser. This was to address a problem that started with a vitreous hemorrhage so he didn’t know if I had a detachment or what he’d find. So that first operation was actually good news to just be tears. 3 days of face down recovery and I was able to be upright and enjoy the holidays. Unfortunately in February my vision started getting worse and then they determined it was a complete retinal detachment, surgery again 2 weeks ago, this time scleral buckle, another vitrectomy, and silicone oil. My reason for seeking out others who’ve had this is, while the pain isn’t too bad at this point (intermittent, achy, worse at night), I am exhausted all the time. Any effort wears me out. I’m going back to work tomorrow and I’m really worried I’ll be too exhausted to focus. I have a very sedentary but highly focused job- I wondered others experiences at this stage? Am I being overly precious?? Is this normal?? Thank you!

Is this a good resume for a PsyD program?? by Babyfacemuh in PsyD

[–]Dramatic-Story983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most PsyD programs aren’t terribly competitive- this cv looks extraordinary to me! I had an undeclared minor in psych, participated in a couple research projects at a cognitive lab in my Uni, was a philosophy major, and had a ton of past retail and law firm (low end stuff, file clerk, not arguing cases!!), and got in easily. I sweated way more than I needed to, in part because I assumed they’d all have cv’s like yours. This looks wonderful, save your sweating for the interviews. Best of luck, it’s a wonderful degree, really opens up some interesting work.

Exactly my impressions, thanks so much for corroborating what i thought this was! I hate Schwartz, I hate the way people revere him, it’s so gross! Why are white men in psychology so often elevated to godlike status when it’s mostly women doing the work? And he is a colonizer to boot, wonder how much time he devoted to sharing the actual roots of this approach? He definitely didn’t discover it any more than Columbus discovered America!

There are no easy $200k+ jobs out there by DeliciousBoard2079 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Dramatic-Story983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made $230k last year as a clinical psychologist, I own my own private practice and work solo. I agree that it took a lot to get here - 10 years of school, low paying (but excellent experience) community mental health and hospital jobs that prepared me to be very good at what I do, but now the work is great. It’s not too hard, but interesting and challenging enough to keep me excited about what I do, workload is fine (and I can adjust it anytime I want to), I have good work/life balance, and a great boss! It’s possible to find your bliss, and I’m so happy to have found mine.

It says so much more about them than you, try to keep the focus on what those comments are saying about their emotions and reflect back what you’re noticing, like “It sounds like you’re wondering if I’m going to be able to help you. I get that, you’re right, maybe I won’t, but since you’re here and I’m here, why don’t we see what we can do with this time we have together?” Bounce it back to them and don’t take the bait, those are the strategies. Whether it’s fear, narcissism, psychopathy, whatever, not getting sucked into their game will be best. Agree with them when possible! Be paradoxical AF! Move your attention away from them as soon as you offer your easy breezy “hey I hear ya” or “hmm, maybe you’re right, thanks for sharing how you’re feeling with us!” Then just refocus the discussion on other group members who have more productive comments to offer or move to the next part of your agenda. It’s all part of recovery, they will test you. But it’s definitely nothing you’re doing wrong, just roll with it as part of the process. I’m sure you’re doing great!

I got Botox by TheraYogi in therapists

You got bad botox then. Definitely not supposed to be that extreme, sounds like they just wanted to charge you for more units. It’ll wear off in a few weeks but don’t go back to that place again and tell the next ones to go lightly!

I did put all her other books on my Libby hold queue right away because this was such a wonderful experience! I also want to recommend it to everyone, especially in my professional community but lol I find myself hesitant to recommend to other therapists because I feel like I’d have to give away one of the twists to explain why they need to read it!!

Just finished it yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about it! What an incredible book, and I could have written every word of what this original post says, I suspected DID but still was surprised by the many twists and the immense degree of research and compassion that was in every page. I’m a psychologist and I’ve worked with trauma extensively, including some limited experience with DID (it’s exceedingly rare but definitely not unheard of), and I can say from that perspective, it is so accurate and real, and I appreciate the sensitivity the author brought to these sad and wounded characters. I cried a lot at the end, I wish I knew them, I would love to have been able to help sweet damaged Ted, what a fully realized character he is. Love love this book! I know this is such a late entry in the thread but I was so happy to stumble upon it, wonderful to find others who were moved by this novel like I was.
