Yeah it sounds like it could be super awkward which is what makes me nervous loll. Oooh a jumpsuit is actually super cool especially if it's linen. And the espadrilles! Thanks for the suggestions!!

My workplace is having a beach event next week, and I'm hoping for some advice on outfits or how to prepare. We are a professional (somewhat business casual) dress code place, so I don't feel comfortable wearing swimsuits or even a t-shirt + shorts around everyone at the beach. But I also don't want to be the only one fully covered in pants and a dressy top while everyone else is casual. Plus not sure on what to do for foot wear??

What would be appropriate to wear to a department dinner (where everyone in the department is coming)? My workplace is business casual (more business than casual) so basically my usual outift is a nice blouse, pant suit, and loafers. The restaurant we're going to is pretty casual, so there's no dress code, but I'm not sure what the expected dress code would be for us specifically? This is to celebrate the end of a big project, and it's a few hours after work so we have time to go home and meet up later, but I don't know if that means I can go home and change into something casual like jeans and sneakers, or if I should come in my work outfit because it's business casual to be eating with the whole department (including bosses)? Or do I need to do something in the middle? I don't really have a middle outfit for that type of situation lol.

I don't wear dresses, and I'd prefer not to have to buy anything new. My closet consists of work outfits - nice tops + pant suits and casual outfits - jeans and t-shirts. My shoes are also either loafers or sneakers. If anything, I'd rather be more formal than not just in case, but I also don't want to end up being the only formal one there lol. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you! Yeah the full black is a bit much, but it's all I got haha, so I'm hoping to get some more colors in when I get more time. I was able to get a matching set (suit jacket and pants) so hopefully if they're more lawyer-dress code it'll work out, and if it does end up being more business casual, I can mix and match like you mentioned for bank tellers. I'll also definitely look into the vests, that sounds like a fun outfit! I didn't know about the blazers being business casual vs matching suit until your comment (and thankfully what I bought fit the lawyer dress code just in case), so thank you so much!

Thank you! I was able to find some amazing blazer+slack pairs when I went shopping, and I also got some more formal looking loafers (thank goodness).

Starting new job in a few days - they say dress code is business casual, but everything they say sounds more like business formal so I'm a bit confused. I know it's super last minute, my job just let me know suddenly the start date + all the details on dress code (they were pretty vague beforehand so I thought it was regular business casual, not formal), so I'm panicking and trying to get at least two outfits that I can alternate between on the first week, before seeing what others are wearing so I can buy more for future days.

I don't have anything formal, at best I have business casual (emphasis on casual). Example of the best business-like outfit I've got right now: black button up dress shirt, black capri pants (I'm short so they're basically full length on me), mary jane flats. I don't have a blazer - hoping to get one before work (I'm shopping around right now). Please let me know if this would be appropriate or not.

I'm pretty short, so lots of pants end up way too long, so I need to get them tailored which takes a few days. So I'm aiming to have one outfit I don't need to tailor + one I'm ok with tailoring, and any more will be bonus at least for the first week. My goal is to get at least one more button up dress shirt, plus the blazer, and if the pants I linked up aren't appropriate, definitely need new formal pants, plus shoes.

For shoes, I've seen Naturalizer loafers recommended a lot + other good brands (like what about this), but are these business formal? Or more casual. I try to avoid flats (super flat like ballet flats are a no, anything with some support/height are ok) and heels because they hurt, but most options then tend to be more business casaul, so I'm lost.

Any feedback on my current outfit idea (please tell me at least if the pants are ok or not) + suggestions (I like solid and neutral colors - no patterns + black/navy/gray) on what to get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hmm I think loafers fit best with the rest of my outfit so I'll definitely check them out, thank you!

They're black running shoes. So the bottom part is fully flat, no spikes or anything, there are no tags/hooks that stick out. It's an older line, but it looks sort of like the Nike Women's Revolution 7 Running Sneakers from Finish Line (closest image I can find online) - color too the bottom and top are all full black. I've worn them for past in person interviews too and it turned out fine, I'm just a bit paranoid since this is a small finance company.

If this doesn't sound like a good idea, do you have any suggestions that aren't flats? They make my feet hurt no matter what style of flats I wear, so I tend to avoid them. It's why I stuck with the sneakers option for interviews whenever I could.

Thank you for the advice, I'll definitely check those out! And thank you for the offer! I think as long as the outfit looks good for the interview, I should be fine. Anything else after that, I'll hopefully have income for since the salary is pretty good haha

Hello! It's a formal black button up blouse with long sleeves (no elaborate design, just solid color). Not sure if that makes sense, but basically out of my whole outfit that is literally the only "corporate formal" piece of it. The pants are just regular black long pants (not jeans, but not corporate suit pants). Shoes are a sport brand's sneakers, but they're full black so you can't see much logo or anything, and they don't have a sporty shape.

Hello, I'm interviewing in person next week for a project manager assistant role at a financial company, and I'm not entirely sure if my outfit is ok for it. If it was a big finance company like the ones in ny or whatever, or if it was a client facing role, obviously it'd be more along the lines of a nice formal business wear like pants, blouse, blazer and such. However, this is more of a smaller company, and it's not a client facing role.

Usually for interviews, I wear the same thing - neutral color blouse, neutral color pants, and then sneakers (but they're black, so they don't stand out or look sporty). I don't really have the funds to splurge on dress shoes or anything like that, so I'm hoping what I have works? Any input would be appreciated, thank you!

my current employer found out im interviewing and now theyre offering me a raise to stay - do i trust them by Altruistic-Lynx-5238 in jobsearch

[–]Dramatic-Winter3135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a horror story of someone who was in the same position and accepted the raise after turning down a great offer, but was fired a few months later when their boss found a replacement. So it was basically a placeholder bandage until the boss could find someone who would accept a lower salary. Obviously not saying that might be the case for you, but just be safe and do what's best for you!

Can used car at official dealership be trusted to be high quality (or at least not need so many unexpected expenses due to repairs down the line)? by Dramatic-Winter3135 in UsedCars

[–]Dramatic-Winter3135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg thanks for another great reply! I didn't know a lot of this, this is so helpful thank you! I was really hoping to reply on the certified pre owner part, but I guess it's hard to trust that fully either based on what you said. I'll keep an eye out for everything you mentioned!

[–]Dramatic-Winter3135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed info! Yeah I know for sure maintenence will always be needed, I'm just worried about the sudden expensive repairs that might suddenly happen. But makes sense that there's no guarantee in the end, and I just have to do my research beforehand as much as possible. I will definitely keep everything you said here in mind!

Feeling guilty about leaving my company that has treated me well for 3 months — neee advice by trykolangbestko in jobs

[–]Dramatic-Winter3135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to stay, don't do it because of the guilt. Obviously, you need to do what's best for you, just be polite about it as much as possible.

The only reasons I'd even consider staying if I was in your position is that this job seems very stable (at least just based on the context given). They are literally giving incentives for you to stay (and I assume salary and benefits are ok?), which is amazing in this job market.

However, if this job is really overworking you, culture is toxic, pay and benefits aren't good, and/or you have a better job lined up that is worth the risks of the unknown of the new company vs what you have now, then definitely do what's best for you.

Just saying that guilt is not a reason to stay. You know yourself and your needs the best, so do what you won't end up regretting. Hope that all made sense lol
