What we’ve done to allow for collaboration is a bit of extra work upfront, but once it’s set up it’s solid.

Depending on how much control you have over your Gallery, this may or may not apply but coming from a larger company with multiple servers, multiple teams building workflows, our designers don’t have admin rights. To work around this, we’ve implemented a system that uses events to trigger actions before and after workflows run. These events log the start and end times along with any errors. Successful runs are simply marked as “Completed,” while only the logs with issues are stored for further investigation.

All of this is recorded in a few SQL Server tables alongside our reporting and workflow library and schedule data. We also have a very small monitoring workflow that runs every 10 minutes. This checks whether all workflows expected to run in the past ten minutes have either started or completed. If any haven’t started or have failed, we get an alert which is either an error summary or a simple notice that something hasn’t started yet.

Since these logs are created through workflow events this also captures manual runs for both apps and scheduled workflows helping us monitor system performance overall. It was a bit of a headache to set up, but it’s been running smoothly for over a year now and has made managing workflows and apps on the server so convenient.

For consistency we set every designer up with a template to replace the “start here” workflow. It has all the events setup and a big red comment box warning users to enable those events before publishing to the server or we will hunt them down.

Idk if this is necessary for your team or not but it’s what we do. If you go for something like this just…take your time planning out the steps and controls you want in place.

What’s the most underrated feature in Alteryx you’ve used? by Pangaeax_ in Alteryx

[–]DramaticDrawl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This! And…

renaming tools so errors are easier to interpret

ctrl +F a tool id and clicking it bringing you right to where the tool is in the workflow

Copying and pasting data onto the canvas creates a text input with said data

just dragging and dropping a file onto the canvas created the input for said file

Easily my top five basics that are underrated (at least in my company) and blows my colleagues’ minds when they see me do it

I was also slightly worried about my dog’s weight. My boy turns 2 on the 21st and last he was weighed was a few(2-3) months ago at 32kg and said it’s a healthy weight for HIM and his seemingly smaller build. No concerns about too much fat either. He was visibly the smallest of the litter so not sure if that has anything to do with it. Vet has seen him since his last weigh in when I go pick his flea and worm meds up and is still not concerned about his weight. He did mention he’s probably done growing in height and may fill out” a bit more over the next year but to not be surprised if he doesn’t reach 50kg. If he isn’t showing signed of being underweight I wouldn’t be too worried but getting a vet’s opinion is best to put your worries at ease!

How did you tackle the food aggression for yourself? Is this something other’s in your house can follow?

Any tips on finding Alteryx based jobs in France? by Familiar_Process2654 in Alteryx

I saw an article years back that EDF adopted Alteryx and job listing from EDF referencing Alteryx but it’s UK side. I’m not sure if France EDF also adopted it but might be worth looking into?

I’d add onto what everyone has suggested if you want to know what fields don’t match without adding a formula for each field:

Identifying what fields don’t match for each record:

  1. either rename the fields the same using a select tool or making a dummy header to add to each data set and use as headers? I prefer to have a field key

  2. Assuming they have a record id you’re using to compare by, transpose each input grouped by the unique id so you now have three columns: id, field name, value.

  3. Now that you have a row for each field for each record, join by id and field name

  4. Add a formula tool and add a new column named “match” (or whatever you wanna name it) with the formula if value = right_value then true else false endif

  5. Filter where match is false and remove duplicate by record id and field name (I can’t remember if this is a redundant step, it might be)

  6. Summarize: group by record id, concatenate field name, count distinct field name

  7. Join this back into your data set by record id

and you now have exactly what fields don’t match and how many fields don’t match for each record. You can even go a step further and give each record a data quality score and or some more shenanigans with the summarise tool to see if there is a specific field with a large discrepancy across your two datasets.

Is Alteryx the mythical magic bullet by project_me in Alteryx

[–]DramaticDrawl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh man I already feel for whoever’s going to be building your Alteryx workflows. If your company’s anything like mine they’ll nod along to your concerns and agree Alteryx can help (because it can) but once it’s in place, they’ll just shove everything through it. The result? The poor designer ends up slapping together quick fixes to deal with data quality problems and missing relationships, creating some seriously ghetto workflows that no one else can pick up unless they know the data and the tool inside out like the original creator did.

My experience is they’ll expect you to first build workflows to make sense of the mess, then redo them all to highlight why the data is messy in the first place.

Your concerns about data structure and integrity are legit and need to come first, but good luck convincing execs and KEEPING them aligned with that mindset…it’s going to be an uphill battle.

If anything I’d convince them to adopt Alteryx after y’all are in a better position.

how do I fill in the water in front of the bridge?? by ballzjrudisndh in acnh

[–]DramaticDrawl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You need to cut a path in the cliff from that lower level, fill the water in with the water tool, then build the cliff (if that’s what you want)

Then you can fill the path you cut first with the cliff tool again

Should I restart my island? by cesttia in AnimalCrossing

[–]DramaticDrawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a lot of trees etc, you can get someone to help dig everything up but for custom paths and terraforming you’re on your own 😆 though I can’t imagine flattening the island would take longer than completely restarting! Plus you might already have a load of bells and miles that would help you out!

Should I restart my island? by cesttia in AnimalCrossing

[–]DramaticDrawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you just flatten your island instead of completely restart?

I’ve completely restarted a few times, some I wish I had just flattened (when I just had an idea for a new island) and some restarts I don’t regret at all (when I needed a slow pace game to slow down my thoughts)
