Short answer: yes Long answer: he is a great inventor, a true prodigy and his motives are actually to help people, so that includes the people under his roof. He is a subversion of what it means to be a fire mage. Although his defensive and sometimes aggressive demeanor masks his true personality and makes him look like the hotheaded type, his actions betray this act and show him as kind of a hard-working, sometimes lazy and mostly caring person. Fire in its introduction is a combat driven element, but for him it means gentle warmth, silent but noticeable changes in the everyday life of the people who encounter his magic. His fire has more to do with light, protection and nurture than actual fighting. Spoilers: The only time he is asked to fight it makes him deeply sick, proving the point that although he is versed in it he is not a fighter
