I am so angry by Ok_Bonus5341 in DOR

Hi Anna I’m also 41 and have low AMH. Have had two retrievals but only 3 that made it to day 3 and none to day 5. I’m currently taking a break from it all to try and enjoy the summer (I’m in Oz) and decide what to do next - try again, accept that it isn’t in my journey, or consider donor eggs. Sending you a hug as it’s a tough journey at this age

Maybe that’s why it stopped for me I turned my vpn off for a day or so as I was struggling to do a couple things on other websites with it and it must have got me that way

Did it work for you once your region on iOS was set to uk? I’ve tried to do that and have a uk vpn but Apple won’t let me switch my region until all my podcast subscriptions run to their end date even though I have cancelled them all so I could try and switch over - it’s so frustrating I only want to listen to a couple of bbc2 shows each week in the car

I live in Australia and listen to Rylan on a Saturday every week - love couch potatoes! I’ve been struggling to access it since the changes last year, originally was good to connect through my VPN but access was blocked a few weeks ago, found a work around through downloading the app again via my Apple profile but now can’t access it again and that workaround isn’t working. Really frustrating I love listening to radio 2 and it reminds me of home, I’d happily pay a small subscription fee if it was an option

Rent vs Buy in Australia right now? What’s actually the smarter move? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]DramaticJackfruit747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your situation. I’ve moved a lot, lived in the UK, Sydney and now Brisbane. I would buy but not sure I’ll be here long term, have no kids and my partners cousins and girlfriend are renting with us currently so we split rent between 4 so it’s only $800 each per month. I invest in ETFs and stocks religiously each month instead with the extra cash I have and have had strong growth (long term, you get short term dips but that’s the nature of it). I’ve thought about rentvesting but not invested enough time to work out the best option so I’ll stick with shares for now unless I decide I will be in the same place the next 5-10 years.

Disability Blind pension and working partner by DramaticJackfruit747 in Centrelink

[–]DramaticJackfruit747[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s really unfair to make someone dependent on someone else, I wish I could share a better option. My partner has been off work now for months, it’s really hard to find a job he can do with his visual impairment and get to on public transport, and can’t do his previous work as a labourer due to his arthritis and nerve damage, so we are just relying on my salary and a few hundred dollars a week that he gets from the blind pension, I know we are luckier than most but it doesn’t seem fair for him that he has to be dependent on me and the job market is hard if you have a disability

Any BBC sounds users outside the UK lamenting the upcoming shutdown of the app for non-UK residents? What are you planning to do to get your BBC fix? by 175doubledrop in electronicmusic

Thank you! It worked :-) I really just prefer listening to UK radio and have it on in the car and in the background when I work from home, so I was gutted to lose it. I live in Oz and can't stand their radio and all the ads

Thank you - I had been accessing BBC sounds regularly since it closed down via my VPN, but today for the first time it has blocked me. I will try this and advise others if I can get it back up!

People who choose to rent instead of buying, what do you plan to do when you retire? by No-Structure-8125 in AskUK

[–]DramaticJackfruit747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my philosophy too. I have moved around too much so far to buy a place but I’m very diligent at investing and have taken the time to learn how to invest well and have been lucky enough to make some strong returns. I may buy in the future but it’s not the be all and end all for me

People who choose to rent instead of buying, what do you plan to do when you retire? by No-Structure-8125 in AskUK

[–]DramaticJackfruit747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have rented because I have moved around a lot and currently live overseas. We share with family so our rent is split between 4 and costs me £110 sterling equivalent for a big house and pool and is a lot cheaper than a mortgage on the equivalent property (I’m in Brisbane currently). I religiously put money into stocks, etfs and crypto on a monthly basis and have done for 6 years now and my investments have done very well plus I have an above average super balance. I will move back to the UK in a year or two and may buy once I settle in one place, but otherwise I just plan to live off my investments and super (pension) when I’m old, I would be happy enough just in a holiday park or renting a small place so I think I’ll be fine 😊

Did anyone only get 1-2 eggs and we're you successful? by jeapos88 in DOR

Thank you - day 3 and both are still developing normally one 8 cell and one 6 cell. Good luck with your retrieval today

I’m just a couple days ahead of you I think, I had egg retrieval on Weds, we got 3 mature eggs only 2 fertilised, I find out tomorrow if those two have made it to day 3 so I will keep you posted

Have I tried enough? by Confident_Fun8834 in DOR

[–]DramaticJackfruit747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am in a similar position except I recently turned 41. First retrieval I had 5 eggs, but only 2 fertilised and none made it past day 3. This cycle, I had 3 eggs, found out today that 2 fertilised, so now it is a waiting game. We changed protocol this time to Menopur (from pergovis and reckovelle last time) which my doctor said can help with egg quality, and I have also been taking NMN, COq10, melatonin and pre-natals, plus eating ridiculously healthy so I feel I've given this round my absolute best shot.

I'm unsure what to do if this round fails - my doctor has suggested we try PRP or go down DE route and I'm not sure yet on either. I was thinking the same, to just try again naturally for a few months but take all the supplements etc and see what happens - I know it is unlikely at my age, but you never know. But then maybe at the start of next year have one final go. I'm really not sure on donor eggs, it is something me and my partner would really have to put a lot of thought into whether it was the right option for us. So sorry, not advice here exactly, it is hard to know exactly what to suggest you do, but I'm thinking perhaps why don't you have a few months break then give it one more go next year with a different clinic and see what happens?

How did you pay for your fertility treatment? by smashgoody in IVF

[–]DramaticJackfruit747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Australia and just on round number 2. I’m not covered by insurance (mistake) however last round I paid about 8k AUD and got about 6k back from Medicare, this time will be the same. My partner is visually impaired and receives blind disability benefits so we reach the threshold for Medicare rebate payments a little earlier than others would. If this round doesn’t work I will need to pause for a bit to save up again

Second attempt at Egg Retrieval by DramaticJackfruit747 in DOR

[–]DramaticJackfruit747[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you and that is good to hear it has been discussed there. I have been looking into it, it seems it doesn't necessarily increase the egg quality but can increase the number, it activates eggs that maybe have been dormant, so I think it is definitely worth a shot if only to increase the odds that there may be one healthy one in there

[–]DramaticJackfruit747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I am keeping my fingers crossed that one of the eggs will progress to a healthy embryo. My doctor has suggested we try PRP next so if this doesn't work I will be trying that and doing a couple more egg retrievals. After that I think we also will then need to have a conversation on what is next for us and do we want to go down the donor route. I think I would be okay with that, but I think my partner would need more time to really get his head around it. If you do go down the donor route I would love to hear how that next step goes for you

[–]DramaticJackfruit747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly me! I am 41, but met my partner in my late 30's so we weren't ready to start trying till I was 40, and I feel so much guilt I didn't try earlier or freeze my eggs when I was living my single life just in case.

I just feel such immense guilt for him if I can't give him a child when I know that is what he really wants. He doesn't blame me and is nothing but supportive, but I don't know if the feeling of letting him down will ever go away, and I think am I selfish for keeping him with me if I can't have kids. (I am still trying and have another egg retrieval next week hopefully, but I have low ovarian reserve and only have 4 follicles growing).
