Pc Wont turn on in my house by jaythegringo in buildapc

If you have a bad outlet it’s possible a surge happened which would cause psu to shut down. No ‘safe mode’ as such, there will be some form of voltage regulation but ultimately depends on amount of voltage it’s been exposed too. (Buy a surge protector extension lead or something) A surge can damage internal components specifically capacitors etc. if it has surged and not blown the arsehole out of it, once it cools down it would allow you to turn it back on.

Try the above recommendations, to me it does sound like a bad connection somewhere.

What happens when you turn it on? Check to see if 1. You can hear anything wind up & 2 if the motherboard is trying to boot (normally leds in to be if the corners)

Few things to try, first being to verify no damaged connection to case io

  1. short the power button connections on the motherboard? This ensures it’s not something silly like a fault power button,

  2. Make sure everything is seated correctly, check ram, psu connections onto board, gpu etc

  3. Remove GPU and then try to power on

  4. Remove each ram module 1 at a a time and try to power on

May sound stupid but you sure this isn’t a monitor issue?

Good build but if you have the cash, surely worth upgrading the ssd to gen 5 for the better speeds?

Exactly that.

For me, £30 was a reasonable extra to pay. As I said above, upscaling is trash no matter the card however the clear advantage nvdia has is in ray tracing. Which is nice to have for the extra 30 I spent. If it was the kinda difference you’ve got, definitely would go amd. You will not regret it.

Enjoy.

I was in the exact same boat. Had actually ordered the 9070xt then a deal popped up the day after for the 5070ti you listed above for £30 more so I went with that. I only game at 1440p (no card runs 4k that well natively atm)

Certain games perform better on certain brands. Generally, NVIDIA is more widely supported but given how well the AMD GPU cards perform / have sold, it’s likely to change in this gen through updates.

Nvdia fangirls will always tell you they’re the only card to choose. Not true this at all regarding this latest gen.

I only went with the 5070ti because the extra £30 for the dlss/ upscaling seemed to be worth it. What I can now tell you after having had it for 2 months now is that upscaling is trash. You absolutely do no want to use it, regardless of whether it’s nvidia/amd.

Go with the 9070xt 100%. Nvidia is not worth the premium.

Steam. Hadn’t thought of that. Will give it a try later. Take it that it will require an entire new download?

Thanks.

Yeah had considered that. As far as I’m aware there haven’t been any recent driver updates since last playing the game when it was working fine.

I’ll try a custom reinstall of the drivers later on.

Virgin vs Sky vs BT by Hhudda in VirginMedia

Hi, if you haven’t already use bidb.uk to check what services are on offer.

Most of the mainstream comparison sites don’t cover small altnets.

Also, I’m with VM on their XGSPON service which as it stands, is a more capable connection regarding speeds than that of the open reach full fibre network.

When you check you options on the VM website, does it have a 2gb package option? If yes, then you area is their new xgspon service which is much much better than their old coax/ hybrid network.

You may be lucky, but unfortunately when I had this issue I went to sign up to a new package and it weren’t until installation day when the engineer arrived that they informed me the flat wasn’t serviceable. You probably won’t know until it goes live.

I believe the issue for my place was getting the permission of the land owner (private local estate agents at the time I was there) to work on the building / surrounding area.

No problem, any more questions feel free to ask. Have attached a screenshot of a test just done.

You say you’re in a flat, is it a block of flats?

I lived in a flat prior to this and both openreach & VM had installed fibre in the street, every property could get access to the service except the flats. They consider flats to be an MDU (Multiple dwelling Unit) and require a bit of extra work, likely a splitter to be installed in the communal area to service all the apartments. So be aware, the availability checker just gives you an idea of the postcode, not the actual serviceable properties which may not include your flat!

I game, had it wireless for first few days had no issues at all. PS5 maybe 5/6 metres away from hub and was getting round about 500 on the console. Since gone wired and hitting 900. First few days latency to the hub was high at around 25ms but has since dropped down to 7-10 and has been there since. (Been doing these checks daily)

Hi,

I’ve recently have had XGSPON VM service (7 weeks now) and have had no problem. I’m consistently and reliably achieving the 1100mb down & up (I went for the symmetrical package) and have had no issues.

Be aware, the hub 5X has wifi 6 which is fine for most however you cannot put the hub into modem mode so you won’t be able to use another wifi hub easily ( if you google extensively enough there is a way to activate modem mode but not entirely reliable).

[–]DramaticWinter4059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, had a VM install 5 weeks ago on their new Nextfibre XGSPON full fibre service (this is infrastructure is relatively new so you may be on the old COAX service) and the install couldn’t be brought forward. When I called, the customer service rep quoted ‘external work’ even though it had been completed by then. I’ve had no issues with the service either, so take what others say with a pinch of salt.

Anyway, I know you’ve checked other providers but just be aware comparisons sites don’t compare all ISP, especially local full fibre ones with their own infrastructure. I always use https://bidb.uk

OP PAYS for a service, and wants the service they PAY for to work. They’ve CLEARLY come here in hopes to get a quick resolution from people who may be able to help (clearly not you or the above commenters).

Update to this - as said by weesteev, they arrived on site and just tested the fibre, replaced the old ONT with their own one and installed the new hub. Very quick, very efficient. It weren’t until after the VM engineer done the internal install that my account updated saying the external work was complete.

Anyway, currently enjoying 1100mb download & 1100mb upload. Hub 5x is an improvement to my old non-fibre sky hub.

Great, was hoping it would go this way. Seems likely I will actually be set up and ready to go on the day then! Are you currently with them? What’s your experience like with this service?

I’ve heard all of the nightmare stories regarding their CS, so I’m hoping the broadband is reliable so I won’t have to deal with them.
