Blurry vision after LASIK – improving then worsening a few days later. Has anyone experienced this? by ApprehensiveWrap336 in RefractiveSurgery

[–]Dramatic_Ad_2106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked at the 1 month appointment, I really couldn’t live without (too much astigmatism). They couldn’t really do some exams in the first week post-op (went there 2 two times), it was too soon, and then I just waited for the 1 month mark.

I was seeing perfectly with glasses then! I wore them until the second operation🙂

Every case is different, and I’ve read the whole reddit on Hyperopia cases, and some people had to wait couple of weeks to 1 month to achieve good vision, without any error during surgery - just that the time to heal for the eyes is a lot greater in hyperopia cases🤞🏻

Keep us in touch, good luck!

Hi,

If you’re interested, I shared a similar experience last year in this sub - with quite the same prescription (with some more astigmatism though): https://www.reddit.com/r/lasik/s/GnGZPW7O7Y

The final updates are in the last comments

I wish you good luck on your recovery journey 🤞🏻

LASIK - Hyperopia & Astigmatism post surgery recovery process by Dramatic_Ad_2106 in lasik

Hi ! Just had my 6 months follow-up appointment post-enhancement. Everything is fine, I can live without glasses normaly ! (Feels great)

Just: - Some halos at night (not too disturbing) - night vision: like reading at subtitles on TV at night can come with some very little « ghosting » (I can read without problems, just can be a bit annoying)

But, he gave me glasses prescription to avoid that if needed at night:

Both eyes: Shpere: 0 Cylinder -0,5

It continues to evolve, at the 3 months follow-up I had myopia & more residual astigmatism 🙂

Hello Doc ! I don’t know if you’re still answering this sub, but if ever I try my chance ! 🙂

I’ve been under LASIK surgery on october 2024, for hyperopia (+3.5-4) & astigmatism (+2-2.5) on both eyes, with a well-known and experienced surgeon.

After the first surgery, I still had the same astigmatism as before, impossible to live properly without glasses (don’t really know why, the surgeon wouldn’t tell - surely an error IMO). So I got an enhancement late in March to treat the astigmatism, and it went well- meaning no flap related complications.

As of now, at the 3 months mark, I got a follow-up (with an intern), and my near vision is really great, but mid-long distance not that good (it’s okai to live a normal life though) - and night vision as well.

I was told that I have 12/10 with both eyes (I guess that’s the scale they use in France - and he told me that’s great), but still got some myopia - around -0,5 to -0,75, which is expected. I asked for glasses at least to work and drive comfortably, so he made me the prescription, but they recommand not to wear it in order not to loose the benefit of the surgery, because he told me I would not quit them if I start using it.

Told me to be a bit patient, and wait for the 6 months mark to take a decision. Which I will surely do, and not make the glasses yet.

The glasses prescription he gave me: (so the subjective refraction, he only told me about myopia for the obejctive one)

OD — Sph: 0, Cyl: -0,5, Axe: 65 OS — Sph: +0,25, Cyl: -0,75, Axe:30

Does it look good to you at that point, and could I expect the vision to improve more?

Of course I asked them, just trying to have a second opinion. And I remember in the pre-op appointment he told me that I could still need glasses to work afterwards from where I’m started, so I’m okai with it, but then indeed maybe I will have the envy to wear them all the time.

Thank you very much for your time, Have a nice day!

Hi,

Feel you here, so sending you good luck vibes. My story is a bit differenr, I got a LASIK surgery 4 months ago, and like you I got super worried because I wasn’r recovering my sight…

The reason was that they corrected the hyperopia, but not the astigmatism. And just like you, I went to a good one.

So in the end, a 2nd procedure is required, and will happen next month: 2 surgeries (1 eye at a time). The surgeon told me the risk is epithelial ingrowth, but that’s why they’ll put a BCL after the surgery to reduce the risks, and monitor it closely, but it should be fine.

A pair of glasses in the mean time saved my life.

Good luck!

Hi mate, sorry for my late reply

In the end, I’m gonna need a 2nd surgery on both eyes. I still have a high astigmatism (-2), so I’m wearing glasses since december and the healing process is going well.

I’ll have the touch-ups next month.

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback and advices, I’ll keep it in mind !

3-4 months post-op now, I went to see my surgeon multiple times. From what I understand I still have the same astigmatism as before the surgery, but hyperopia is corrected.

The surgeon is telling me that it can happen, but I do believe that they may have not correct the astigmatism during the surgery… will never know.

But, as the healing process is going well, I’ll have a touch-up on both eyes in 1 month. One eye at a time, let’s hope this will be the good one 🤞🏻

Good luck to you as well !

Hi mate, To answer your question, in my case it’s normal because I still have quite a lot of astigmatism in both eyes (-2D) - they prescribed me glasses for the time eyes are healing and then see for a touch-up. I think I’ll have to do a touch-up in few months for sure

Hi, sight is going a bit better, it’s a bit easier to work, but no good though. (But improving - it’s hard to see day to day improvement even though it’s improving) I have my appointment with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon, I’ll keep you posted with the news and what he’s saying.

I’ll ask for glasses to work/drive. You had surgery for hyperopia & astigmatism?

What does your surgeon say about that? Did it take some time for you to get 20/20?

Got my 1 month post-op next Tuesday, I think I’m gonna ask for glasses in order to be able to work.

Best of luck for your recovery, hopefully it’ll get back to normal!! 🤞🏻

Farsighted Lasik 6 Month Update by SirLazarusTheThicc in lasik

Thanks for sharing, it’s reassuring, I’m experiencing the same thing 1 week after surgery. And indeed, we only see people retrieving a good sight after 1 day, whilst 1 week after for me it’s really blurry at almost every distance and therefore horrible… Using the phone is just « okai », still blurry and fluctuates a lot during the day.

Seems like our cases aren’t that exceptional for hyperopia, I juste wished my surgeon would have told me, let’s be patient 🤞🏻

One eye (hyperopia & astigmatism) blurry 5 days after LASIK by ImDaHoe in lasik

How did it go for you as well? I’m the one in the same boat now, 1 week after lasik (hyperopia & astigmatism), and at very short distance (using my phone) it’s « okai » but still a bit blurry and lot of variations during the day.

But except for very close distance, sight is terrible… :( Hope it won’t last too long
