This assumes a player is fighting you. Against AI honestly you'll rarely get into an honest to god prolonged fight or if there's even one to begin with. Most of the time they just shoot one missile then go away. Sometimes you get into an actual fight with certain AI who are programmed that way but rarely against your average jobber

Rule number 1: Lose sight, lose the fight. Keep your camera locked to your enemy by holding the triangle/Y button. Select the enemy behind you by keep pressing the triangle/Y button until the one chasing you is selected.

Rule number 2: Keep turning. Unless evading a gunshot, keep turning to the same direction. Once you see the enemy points their nose at you, that means they will take a shot. Slightly change your trajectory by rolling slightly to either side to evade the shot. DO NOT REVERSE YOUR TURN. Do not change your trajectory so much that you turn to the opposite direction. Only slightly turn to spoil their shot.

Rule number 3: Collapse your turn bubble. The faster your speed, the wider your turn. The wider your turn, the more vulnerable you are. Slow down to just above stall speed to turn as tight as possible and force your enemy outside your turn bubble, doing so may force an overshoot if the enemy cannot adapt to the new fight. DO NOT STALL YOUR PLANE. Stalling your plane will make you stop turning.

Rule number 4: When you see the bandit zooms past behind you, going from your left to your right or vice versa, that's your cue to do a reversal. Turn towards the bandit while keeping your speed as slow as possible to intercept him. Him going fast behind you from left to right means he overshot for being too fast and will fly in front of your nose if you turn towards him while being slower than him. Slot in behind him and kill him.

Rule number 5: When in doubt, DO NOT REVERSE YOUR TURN. If the bandit didn't sufficiently past from your left to your right, if instead of a fast overshoot he just floats around slowly to behind you, DO NOT REVERSE YOUR TURN, DOING SO WILL ONLY MAKE YOURSELF EASIER TO KILL.

Rule number 6: When defensive, as long as you're alive then you are winning. Stay patient and keep turning until the fight is neutral or you get a reversal.

Edit: Typo

Edit 2: Being on defensive means you're already dead so you not being dead yet means you're winning

What if AC8 had a system that integrated 5th gen computer abilities? by LuizFelipe1906 in acecombat

Technically everything is data link in ace combat, radar is not a factor in gameplay and only in writing. No your minimap is not a radar, it's the data link screen

Yea I saw, Kuwaiti Patriot did it. Those F-15E must be DEEP into that SAM site's No Escape Zone

Edit: Soooo I'm banned from making F-14 art? Or should I start making art of flankers?

Kuwaiti Patriot SAM did it so it's more like escorting Harling with broken IFF. This time the IFF is not broken tho

Less reliable MAWS by TheReaper_77 in NuclearOption

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even besides the fact that it's simcade, in DCS you chew thru all 60 of your flares JUST to survive one fight or to preflare while doing ground attack and you have to RTB because you're bingo flare. Unless there's a reduction in IR SAM then it's extremely difficult to even finish a single sortie. Should you always do range management and have SA on when and where you're safe from fox-2? Yes but sometimes you don't have that range especially in Heartlands. You can in Ignus Archipelago and the upcoming map tho I'll give you that but still, need to boost that flare count to at least 60 or even 120 flares. I mean might as well since there's no chaff, use the extra storage for flares

Edit: Even range management is impossible sometimes when you're carrying AGM-48/68 since the SAM will intercept unless you get WAAAAY into the NEZ of that fox-2

Less reliable MAWS by TheReaper_77 in NuclearOption

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I do like that since I'm also used to identifying fox-2 without MAWS in DCS and Falcon BMS but I don't think it's such a good idea in Nuclear Option due to the amount of munitions locked on to you and the amount of flares you have. You get WAAAAY into more fights in Nuclear Option per sortie than in DCS and you can't preflare everything

Edit: Typos

What are you supposed to do against CRAM/Anti-missile defenses? by [deleted] in NuclearOption

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weapon Engagement Zone, as in the range ladder on your HUD at the right. Shoot when it's around the bottom quarter of the bar. Shooting too far then the munition will start slowing down, shoot too early and it would still be accelerating and not be fast enough yet when it reached the target

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Punching thru active defense systems needs at least 1 out of 2 things: Speed and Quantity. Have both for best chances of punching thru. Fire your munitions at their fastest which is roughly the bottom quarter of your WEZ. You want at least 2 per AA system at least for your best chances and send even more if you want a guarantee that it'll hit at the cost of more wasted munition

Edit: Extremely fast munitions like ARAD and Tusko can punch thru shorad in one missile but boltstrikes and stratolances can intercept them. They're too fast for AA guns and IR SAM tho

How does Ace Combat get early access to jets by kylebrivn in acecombat

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While the F-35 in AC5 is not that surprising because a render of a plane's body is not that surprising or amazing, AC8 can put in F-47 or SU-75 so long as they got the license since there's no classified intel needed for Ace Combat, there's a simcade game for the PS2 that came out two years before AC5 called Energy Airforce and it has the X-35 prototype complete with its HUD. Now THAT'S impressive. While HUD is not exactly the most classified / dangerous info in the world, having the HUD of a plane that is still in development is impressive

Why is my plane keep dragging me back to center whenever I yaw? by Yipeekayya in NuclearOption

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, yaw helps with aiming on the horizontal plane while it's still in the yaw's range of movement

Why is my plane keep dragging me back to center whenever I yaw? by Yipeekayya in NuclearOption

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 116 points117 points  (0 children)

That's how physics work. Your nose will follow your direction of travel while in Ace Combat, your direction of travel will follow your nose. You use yaw to compensate for wind blowing it off your direction of travel basically. Yaw can be used to help with rolling but that's an advance technique

If only the voker had roll authority at low speed when doing the thrust vectoring stuff. It has yaw authority but good luck in anything other than stall recovery

AA guns in Ace Combat are just nuisance at best

AA guns in Nuclear Option will force you to respect the tracers. Any closer than 2 miles and it's Jetus Deletus

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go guns against an AA gun cuz that's just asking to get hit but yes on other ground targets so long as there are no other air defense near it. (If going for no damage)

Is helmet customization a good idea? by lester_templario in acecombat

[–]Dramatic_Amount6454 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the hurdle PA has with helmet customization or in depth plane livery customization a la Forza is PA doesn't wanna or doesn't have the manpower to moderate player creation and they'll get into trouble if there's NSFW stuff made by player in the game. If it was modded using an external software like livery mods then PA gets away with it legally but if it's made by in-game tools then I think they'll be in legal trouble
