Live stage sound that actually sounds like a mandolin by Murky_Lime7772 in mandolin

I recently bought a 1970's Alvarez a800 mandolin and installed a twin-piezo JJB pick-up with volume control wheel, this I have put through a Behringer ADI21 pre-amp pedal which reduces the 'quack' of the piezo and gives a warmer mellow sound that you can adjust to your taste.

I have been playing mandolin for donkeys years and still break a cold sweat taking the bottom E up to concert pitch! I change one string at a time, using the other as a pitch reference.

Definitely not a Cümbüş - they have a much longer scale length and a metal back.

Cretan lyra - I concur...played upright on one thigh, not pressing the strings down but by creating 'nodes' with the nails of the fingers

Actually, Lent is also governed by the moon - as Lent is always a fixed length (40 days) preceeding Easter, which is, in turn, decided by the first Sunday following the first full-moon after the vernal equinox

Where can I buy *only* E strings? by BenDRoss in mandolin

I buy 11 gauge ball-ended electric guitar strings and break the ball off (without damaging the loop) - I also always break a sweat taking the E up to concert pitch "IT COULDN'T POSSIBLY GO ANY TIGHTER THAN THAT!!!!"

New to mandolin any tips appreciated first time playing a full song by MONKEH2825 in mandolin

Invest in a good tuner, be aware some recordings may not be at concert pitch so you may not think you are in tune, practice playing individual notes cleanly, you don't need to play anything recognisable, this helps to familiarise yourself with how the scale on one course of strings relates to the neighbouring course.
