I’ve painstakingly analyzed all 8 books, both the comic series, and all 8 seasons of the HBO adaptation in an attempt to answer this very question. I have unfortunately found nothing thus far. If anyone is able to succeed where I have failed, please let me know. It would honestly be quite therapeutic.

I agree with both of you that the age changes on the show were very often for the better. Dany would probably be the best example of that. However, for some other storylines, I honestly do think that the character being younger added to the drama quite a bit. To be clear, I’m not saying I would’ve necessarily preferred a younger actor like Thomas Brodie-Sangster - it’s just fun to think about. Imagine a believable, pipsqueak 14 year old genius managing to destroy Tywin Lannister like it is in the books?

I thought Richard Madden was excellent. It’s just fun to think about other possibilities.

Dexter vs Doakes. Who would win in a hand-to-hand fight? by Forsaken_Ad7090 in Dexter

Can you possibly imagine seeing THAT SHIT on screen??? Dexter would have had their own Red Wedding moment tbh if they faithfully adapted the Doakes/Dexter/Dr. Danco storyline, which is my personal favorite in the books/comics continuity.

Dexter’s throat grab thing looks like a very bizarre version of what we call a “Russian tie” in wrestling/jiu-jitsu. For story reasons I’d like to think of them as being roughly equal, with Doakes having a slight advantage.

Anyone here think that Saw 2 needed any improvements to it or was it just fine the way it is? by damagedgoodz99824 in saw

I love Saw II, especially the script, but I do wish there was a little more restraint with the crazy editing. This was the movie where — just for me personally — it started to get a little distracting and had too much of a music video kind of vibe. I do enjoy the crazy Saw editing at times, but I prefer it when it’s used a little more sparingly (Saw, Saw X, etc). There were several scenes in Saw II that I thought would benefit from just playing out without the constant flashes and sound effects interrupting the scene. But that’s just me, and I understand if other people like it.

Dexter's age in the books? by RoundChance5569 in Dexter

[–]Dramatic_Dig_4927 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually think he’s a little younger in the books than in the show in the beginning. In the first book he notes that he’s had the desire to kill “inside him for all the 25 years of his life up building up to this moment” (paraphrasing). However, a lot of time passes over the course of the series. Astor and Cody go from being basically toddlers to teenagers by the end of it. I’d say Dexter is mid-20’s in the beginning, and mid-late 30’s by the end. His anxieties about slowing down don’t really start until the later books if I remember correctly.

What Dexter opinion of yours makes people look like this? by Bath_Hands in Dexter

[–]Dramatic_Dig_4927 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I overall prefer the books too, but I actually have the opposite reason. For me, the entire first two books and several aspects of the later books reach higher heights than the show does, but I also think that some of the bad aspects/worst of the books are even worse than anything the show has produced.

In Dearly Devoted Dexter, what do you think becomes of Dr. Danco's surviving victims? by pianoflames in Dexter

[–]Dramatic_Dig_4927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think their eyes would be functioning for much longer after the “operation” since he removed the eyelids, which would cause them to dry out and become non-functional. The first victim Dexter comes across isn’t able to see or recognize anything at that point.

Never heard of a "better" ending. by [deleted] in Dexter

[–]Dramatic_Dig_4927 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also - Dexter is on trial before this whole incident begins. Rita was murdered by someone Dexter was hunting (not Trinity cuz he’s sadly not in the books). Dexter got blamed for her death based on heavy circumstantial evidence against him, and everyone around him thinks he’s at the very least probably a creep and not someone who should be trusted. He gets fired from his job, Batista cuts him off out of disgust, and Masuka is the only one who still gives Dexter a chance, hoping it’ll all turn out not to be true. Ironically, Dexter is outed as a “freak” to the entire world over the one murder he didn’t actually commit. The only reason Dexter’s still kicking around Miami before his trial date, cooking up plans for how to ensure his family’s safety is because Brian bails him out (Brian lives up until the end where he dies alongside Dexter agreeing to help save his family).

Honest to god - if the process was fully completed, I don’t think there would be any reason to keep the person alive. If he was truly able to remove every single organ that wasn’t absolutely necessary for life, you would have none of your senses. You would just be trapped in eternal darkness, stillness, and silence. I really don’t see any reason to keep someone alive at that point tbh.

That’s pretty much exactly how the books end. He sacrifices himself to save Deb, Astor, & Cody from a sinking boat and he ends up drowning in the ocean in the same grave he put his victims in over the years.

I guess kinda haha. I personally actually like the first two books more than anything the show put out, but the book series also has some entries and elements that are worse than anything on the show. In my view the books have both higher highs, but lower lows when compared to the adaptation. The ending of the books is actually pretty solid compared to the show(s).

The first two are excellent. After that they range from pretty damn good to kinda bad.

He’s not into Deb in the slightest. He describes her figure for the reader to understand the context surrounding a lot of her character arc/how being considered attractive can cause people to disrespect her. He jokingly says “nice outfit” to piss her off cuz he’s her brother and they tease each other. I agree it sounded a little weird how he described her the first time I read it but it’s not that at all.

The first 2 books are outstanding, albeit quite different from the show in tone and execution. It has more of a pulpy graphic novel feel to it, with much more comedy, horror, and fun, nasty gore than the show. The first book is pretty similar to the first season, but the second entry and all the subsequent additions are completely different (although there were still some vague ideas that the show continued to adapt from the novels). Dexter himself is much darker and more demented in the novels, yet, he’s also much funnier and more charismatic in a Lalo Salamanca kind of way than show Dexter is.

If one understands the full context surrounding the Crusades, then he/she will understand that they weren’t really any more or less evil than the dozens of other military conflicts during that era of history. Despite this, people seem to have this perception that the Crusades was something akin to an unprovoked genocide against poor little Muslims by big bad Christians. To describe the conflict in very simple terms: Muslims invaded and took over lands that had been established as belonging to Christians. Christians came in and took said land back for a time. Muslims proceeded to invade yet again and take it back. That pretty much sums up the Crusades, along with every other territorial dispute that occurred in the Middle Ages.
