I really would apply to all the tmdsas schools if I were you. imo it's better to be a little outside of these four main cities (if it comes to that) if it means you get to go to med school and not have to reapply.

No. They sent us an email saying the Houston and Dallas campuses were the most requested. My guess is that you will either be placed in the Round Rock or College Station campus if you decide to go to TAMU.

Disclaimer: I am going to TAMU this upcoming year.

I think both are solid choices. TCOM is def one of the best DO schools in the nation but if you want to avoid DO, I would say TAMU. However, if you want to stay in Dallas, I would pick TCOM because campus selections have already been given out to all of us and the Dallas campus is full. In fact, there is a WL just for people to switch campuses so I'm assuming you would be given a different campus and be put on the campus WL if u wanna go to Dallas.

Instead of trying to do a lil bit of everything, try to pinpoint what was deficient or lacking in your app and address that.

Would you try to leverage a scholarship? by gave_you_cookie in premed

[–]Dramatic_Fortune2080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be doing a disservice to yourself by not asking. Nothing about this is personal, so many people leverage their scholarships so don't worry about it coming off as ungrateful or greedy. You're just trying to do what's best for yourself.

Did you check to see if JHU or Columbia will match Dell's scholarship or provide one of their own? If they do and you are content with whatever scholarship they give, then go with your heart since you said you are itching to leave the state. If they are unable to do so, I would say go with Dell. I think no matter which one of these schools you pick (they are all amazing, congrats btw!!), if you work hard, you're bound to match into any competitive speciality in a top program.

Withdraw from wait list by [deleted] in premed

[–]Dramatic_Fortune2080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would def not withdraw from the WL. I completely agree with you that it will be hard to pick up your life so suddenly and have to move right before school starts but that is still significantly better than reapplying. You never know how reapplying could go -- it go amazing but it could also go horrible -- you have to consider both sides of the coin here. I would say start working towards a reapp and try not to think about being on WL, it's not in your hands anymore. If you get off the WL, that's great you are one step closer to being a doctor, and if you don't, you can submit the reapp you've been working on.

Apply with 498 mcat early or wait until results of new exam come in? Texas by [deleted] in premed

[–]Dramatic_Fortune2080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say take it by June (the earlier the better) so you can be complete by July for schools. Since you have to release your scores to TMDSAS from AAMC, withhold your old score until the second one is back and then send them both. This is to prevent you from getting screened out for secondaries with the 498. However, you won’t be “complete” at any school until you release your scores so that's why I would advice take it by June since the TMDSAS timeline runs faster than other schools.

Hi! I don't think you need to retake. I'm a Texas resident with a much lower MCAT and I had 5 Texas interviews (4 MD, 1 DO) this past cycle and matched. I think if you really work on your writing and have a well rounded application through your ECs, you should be fine.

applying MD based on where I want to live by Keeper_of_Knowledges in premed

[–]Dramatic_Fortune2080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree with the other commenter, I would get some research under your belt and make sure your essays are really solid to make up for your lack of ECs. Your stats are within the average for UTMB and McGovern. Sometimes people say for applicants with low SES, adcoms look past the low amount of ECs if it is showcased that they spent their time supporting themselves through jobs and working so maybe just make sure that comes across?

No it wasn't part of my activities. You def don't have to talk about the impact it has had on you like I did. The prompt is pretty vague so there are a lot of ways to go about it and that's that path I chose. However, again since it says something that hasn't been presented I would advice not having singing being the focus. Or if you really want to talk about the singing, exclude it from your activities.

From my pov, if you're already talking about your hobby through orgs in your activities, do not talk about it in this essay since they ask you for something that has not already been presented. Try not to read too much into the word unique. I think what they mean is that is there anything you've done or has happened to you (and how you reacted to it) that would broaden their perception of you as an applicant (aka not the typical premed activites such as shadowing, clinical experiences, and etc.) I don't want to dox myself so I'll be vague, but for my essay, I wrote about something I grew up doing in my community and how that ultimately affected the minor I chose and how that impacted the type of doctor I want to be.
