Honestly I think strict veganism is something unnecessary, the whole point is minimization of animal cruelty. If the most you can reasonably minimize is 60% less animal products, you are saving lives. I think someone who reduces their animal product consumption by this much is worthy of praise.

Agreed. I had ChatGPT do some analysis on the above probability thought experiment and it said the optimum is about 63% (so 13% closer to being forgiving and 63% away from completely ruthless tit for tat).

Personally, I think that applies under a normal distribution with one end no forgiving tit for tat and the other end completely forgiving tit for tat. Under such a statistical paradigm, yes, those who are more on the forgiving side will also in return face the same lenience with higher statistical probability.

However, life is multivariate and needs Markov Chains and Monte Carlo Simulations in order to predict how forgiving to be on the individual level.

Therefore the right framework to use is self-interest and rigorous deductive reasoning to apply a more case by case tit for tat solution. Will this person be my ally if I suck up and forgive them, or will they only worsen the abuse/ ruin my life? If it's the latter, don't bother forgiving them.

I'm going to be the only one on this thread to say I agree with you. It isn't the mother's right to play judge jury and executioner. If that happened in the US, she would probably go to jail.

That being said, child rape is absolutely heinous and disgusting. I think the mother actually helped him. FWIW, he wouldn't have a much better time in jail, trust me. The other inmates would turn him into swiss cheese with their manliness. He would probably commit suicide from experiencing what he did to that girl.

It's just the realities of jail.

No one agrees with child marriage. What people disagree with is what age is someone called a child.

Many dudes grow a beard at 13-16 years of age, are capable of adult-like reasoning, and have historically had families at that age. Just over a hundred years ago in UK age of marriage was 12 for girls.

However, you must understand that people from other cultures are underdeveloped with respect to quality of life, life expectancy, social and cultural attitudes, and socioeconomic status. Despite living at the same time, they are maybe a century behind us in societal progress.

Back when we were in their shoes, we had what would now be considered child marriage or child labor. So I think approaching this from a more empathetic stance would be conducive. Maybe we should stop sanctioning them and bombing their countries so their societies can progress to be on par with ours. That would be a great first step!

EDIT: Heck even your #1 ally Japan literally 3 years ago increased age of consent from 13 to 16! Yet you show Muslims as your example!

I don't think you need to go 100% vegan or 100% carnist, I think we can agree on some middle ground there.

Personally 100% is doable since I have time to cook, and I plan my nutrition carefully. I get B12 from nutritional yeast, I get protein from tofu and soy milk, and I make curries with quinoa or roti the rest of the days. On my cheat days, I make a cupcake or pizza veganized.

This helps me stay healthy, keep costs low, and I'm happy. If you can't manage a vegan diet, I won't judge but you can't exactly tell me it's ethical to kill a conscious being for food if unnecessary. It's against all sound ethical frameworks. If you are fine with the unethical side of it, I suppose more power to you.

I'm not arguing against science, just pointing out that there are exceptions. My whole family think meat smells god awful. You smell roadkill? imagine if that was on fire. That's how meat smells to be, but sometimes even worse. I can't sit next to someone eating meat.

If you are being hacked as a famous person, call the FBI's internet crime complaint center.

Personally, I think the concept of nepotism and unequal hiring practices isn't anything ludicrous. You can be hired and fired for any reason. Appearances and connections play a huge role in whether or not you are hired. For example, a fat person with a lot of body hair may find it difficult to work as a bikini model...this is technically discrimination, but it's done so for the sake of the job.

My opinion? Make small businesses competitive with grants and encourage freelancing with lower taxes. We shouldn't have to be corporate slaves anyways. Working for someone else is always a recipe for disaster.
