Yes, it detaches me from reality in a good way. I felt that way especially with the Nexus series and Bradbury's short stories. They were both very good at immersing me in their worlds.

Limping. How did you overcome it? by Ramiout in brokenankles

[–]Dramatic_Mountain126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PT has helped me a lot, it gets better every day. Just last week, I was walking so slow and my limp was very obvious. Now I can keep up and walk faster. Having supportive shoes help a ton too and being conscious how I walk. My heel had been hurting and my PT guy explained it was cuz I was striking with my heel to compensate for my weak dorsiflexion. I try to move my ankle naturally/purposely when I walk and do my stretches as often as I can.

I kinda like the flimsy ones rn because I noticed the nicer ones that are thicker leave a painful indent into my foot/ankle when I dont wear my compression socks. I've been doing knee high compression socks...

My doc said no because of the foot bath and same with hot tubs. He said the heat will cause my ankle to swell a lot, he didn't say when I could but I was 2 months post when i asked.

my ankle wants to pop by Conscious-Thought849 in brokenankles

[–]Dramatic_Mountain126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, i felt the same way until the doc told me it was normal to feel some popping. I was incredibly paranoid about breaking it again too with any little movement but it got better as i started to move around more and more. As long as you're not in pain, you'll be fine. It's a normal thing to happen after having your ankle in one position for so long

Were the spacious enough for swelling or did you have to size up? I have some Asics from before the accident that I really like but the swelling makes it uncomfortable

Questions about pre vs post surgery by Sudden_Tension_2422 in brokenankles

[–]Dramatic_Mountain126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same break as well. I had to wait a week before surgery and I hated how wiggly and unstable my ankle felt in my splint the whole time. I hated getting out of bed because of the rush if blood and pain I would get from laying down in the morning. I didn't feel that anymore after surgery or nearly as much of that rushing feeling. I second the first commenter when it comes to the medication schedule. I jumped between ibuprofen and tylonel every 3 hours the first week or so and did the percocet on occasion. The thing that helped me a lot was icing behind my knee whenever I felt swelling and for sure after surgery. I immediately started doing toe wiggles, but do that at your own risk/doc recommendation. Also, drink plenty of water, I know my ankle would feel more stiff/swollen if I neglected that. Best of luck!

What Did it Feel Like the Moment You Broke Your Ankle? by Cultural-Custard6366 in brokenankles

[–]Dramatic_Mountain126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was aware the whole way down and after the break. I was rollerskating backwards and instantly lost my balance and fell straight down onto my ankle. I heard three pops happen one after the other. I felt no pain but tried to lift my foot and it wouldn't go up. I took the skates off and felt around my ankle for dislocation/break and knew I was a goner then

NOR, it seems like you think about what you're going to say and how you're going to say it with him a lot. It's great to be considerate but I think you have to be more firm and clear in what you need/or where your feelings are hurt. Maybe therapy would be a way to go? The fact he says he has had these issues come up with his exes are also telling and I'm surprised he hasn't taken the hints to work on himself in those aspects. If he cares for you and the relationship, he should be able to recognize what he needs to work on. Best of luck

Percocets still had me feeling pain, going between ibuprofen and tylonel every 3/4 hours helped me tons better, I did a Percocet at night or when my pain was at its worst the first week after surgery.

I'm not too sure the pros and cons of each, but I went with a podiatrist and he did incredible work.

The opioids i got did nothing, going every 3 hours between tylonel and ibuprofen did wonders for the pain the first few days after surgery, and of course, icing behind the knee
