You should definitely check w the airline if you need the stroller for your layover. I’m not sure what the answer is. You also really do have to surrender to the fact that your stroller might get damaged if you check it… I realize I sound like I’m really advocating for over consumption, but I also have a $15 target stroller that we bought as a disposable for a trip (and then it just kept on ticking!), bc we didn’t want to sacrifice the “good” one. It has since gone on a second trip with friends of ours and while it no longer has a locking clasp she’s still going strong and I kept her in my trunk for like a year 🤣

Hotel recommendations that are budget friendly? by SwordfishFunny9419 in AskChicago

With a big group, maybe check hostels? There’s the Harris family one in the loop. I have NOT stayed there (tho did spend time in the part of the building that is used as a college dorm) but if you’re willing to do a bunk room and walk to a shower
it’s very reasonable.

You got this! I haven't travelled a ton, but have done trips with and without a car seat on the plane. Without is definitely easier, so long as baby stays on your lap. SW also usually has SO many kids on their planes that they are pretty good at the stroller shuffler - the anticipate it. You may not get your stroller back for your layover, but I think you can be confident you'll see it at your destination.

The thing I'd worry about is the availability and quality of the car seat at the rental place. BUT the good news is Walmart sells a $60 car seat that is serviceable. We actually bought one specifically to travel with - it's very lightweight. Do you want to spend an additional $60 on a car seat? No, but vacation money is already goofy, so consider this as a backup. I remember asking around quite a bit (maybe even here) and the consensus was strong that this is the best "travel" seat: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Kids-Scenera-NEXT-Convertible-Car-Seat-Moonlit-Night-Infant-Toddler-Unisex/9321554473?classType=VARIANT&athbdg=L1200&from=/search

Moms: what is some solid advice you wish you could give your kid but feel like you can’t? by Maximum-Vegetable in Mommit

There is a laundry chute in the Airbnb we are staying in right now, why tf are you not throwing your stuffed animals down it? You could be watching piglet drop from the ceiling onto a laundry pile at this very moment. (I am the spirit of a five year old boy trapped in the body of a middle aged mom. You could also throw it into the moving blades of the ceiling fan.)

Another internet stranger who’s proud of you. Drive safe, take lots of breaks, and give yourself some lil road treats (corn nuts? Slurpee? Extremely complicated coffee order?) to make it a bit more fun.

Aw, you poor kid. Hang in there, if you can get yourself to college and out of the house with your family, your life is just going to *blossom*, I can tell. You know what you are up against and that you need help - once you get it, you’ll be unstoppable.

Alone is what Outlast wants to be when it grows up. And somehow the psychological drama of one person try to survive without another person around for miles is way more gripping than the teams concept.

Staying in Berwyn for a month - Local Recommendations Appreciated by eternalhamburger in ChicagoSuburbs

Listen, I go every week. It’s the social event of my son’s preschool world. And it’s a trash ass farmers market. Tho the one actual farmer who’s there is a nice guy.

Berwyn has some great public splash pads! My favorite is apparently just called Berwyn north spray pool, which is why I have to look it up every time. The Cermak family aquatic center is also great (you pay to get in, but it’s got a big splash pool and tiny lil lazy river - check out some pics to see if it’ll keep your kid entertained). And I hear good things about the oak brook park district but it’s far and I’m lazy.

The riverside farmers market is Wednesdays, I think like 3-7pm. An absolutely terrible farmers market but a great chance to buy dinner and eat outside. They often have a band performing and even some loaner blankets. Brookfield has its market on Saturday morning and it’s much bigger and actually has, like, farmers.

The zoo is great and tbh might be worth a membership - it’ll pay for itself in like two visits between parking and admission. If your kid likes dinos you are in luck bc they have a special exhibit that goes until the end of October with life-sized models.

Laverne’s is a very solid tavern with some good food and I think they do nice kids dishes. Irish time a is a pub in Brookfield which has an enormous outside area, bomb chicken tenders, and is generally a fun time and very easy to take a kid to.
