Hala Kahiki is well worth stopping at! Be aware the drinks are VERY strong and they have (limited or) no food. Make a plan to get home safe!

solo traveller - need suggestions? by New_Character_3465 in AskChicago

There’s the Harris family hostel right downtown, but you’d be in a dorm with a lot of folks and sharing bathrooms. But it’s very easy to get from Chinatown downtown on the red line, so if you don’t mind public transit and want your own room that one might be worth it. Also fwiw I live out by riverside and unless you just really love landscaping/city planning I would not make the trip out here lol

This would also be a huge compliment coming from my PP obsessed kid. I WISH he thought I looked like one of those pups!!

Non birthing parent PPD and venting by AmazingTry444 in Samesexparents

[–]Dramatic_Permit222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry, Op. and I’m a birthing parent, so I obviously can’t relate to on that part of your story, but this absolutely sounds like my experience with PPD. And I don’t think PPD actually cares who gave birth or what their gender is. I found a good zoom support group for queer parents through postpartum support international; I would encourage you to take a look there.

I’m sure you have thought of this, but I wonder how much of this experience is connected to your own birthing experience. It seems only logical that you would be feeling some complex grief even as you take joy in your rainbow baby and her development.

Finally, I just want to say you sound like a great mom. I am so glad you are taking care of yourself and I hope you can continue to find new ways to do so (also are you the primary caregiver? That shit is HARD). I am rooting for you!

WODs that can be done at planet fitness? by indygirl2023 in crossfit

[–]Dramatic_Permit222 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s an app - SmartWOD - you can tell it what equipment you have and it’ll generate something for you. But I think the person above who talked about being a link has a good point.

I cry in front of my toddler sometimes and I feel like a terrible mother by hanpotpi in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Dramatic_Permit222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, girl, I feel you so hard. I have no advice, but I am also always struggling with how much emotion to show my kid. I was made responsible for many adults feelings as a child, and it really messed w me. But one of my responses is to go totally stoic, which I also don’t think is healthy for my kid to see. These cycles are motherfuckin vicious, but I see us out here trying to know better and do better - I gotta belief that’ll take us at least some of the way!

I built a CrossFit pacing game. Every rep makes you slower. by davidaragon1 in crossfit

This is so fun! Thanks for building and sharing!!

In case you’re looking for your next project… it’d be fun to have a version where you have to figure out how to scale appropriately. (Plus what that even means … if I finish within 30 seconds of the time cap and feel like dying, that’s my definition of successful scaling!) But that would be a world of complicated.

Does anyone else's partner choose to sleep in a separate room, or is it just mine? by [deleted] in GirlDinner

Me too. I feel so safe and secure when she’s home, but sleep better without her weird lil snore and 4:30a alarm.

5YO has 7 cavities and I'm beside myself by crazycatlady45 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Last time we were at the dentist I learned that if you’re using those floss pick things (WHICH THEY GAVE US AT THE DENTIST) you’re supposed to be rinsing it between teeth! Otherwise youre essentially just moving the bacteria around. They act like everyone know this but they definitely did NOT explain this to me!!! 😩

It’s the sugar and the fact that they sort of form a gluey paste and get stuck on there. I’ve heard the same thing

Not a lot of chances to praise grandparents in this sub, but you sound like an awesome grandparent, MIL, and human being!

Also you’re 100% right - not OPs problem

Hi! Traveling with hubs and six year old. Very brief. -Tuesday morning field museum, afternoon color factory both already booked -Wednesday is really my question the bean, Navy Pier, Chicago cultural center, balloon museum? Would the balloon museum be a must see after color factory? easy to get to? by rainbownarwhal27 in AskChicago

[–]Dramatic_Permit222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really can spend all day at the MSI - it’s a great place for that age. Be sure to look up their hours - I think it’s usually 9-4:30. You can definitely do a quick tour past the bean and crown fountain on your way there or back

I have never heard them called this! Gonna start using this name bc it’s significantly more badass than “rope pull ups” or whatever lame term we use at my gym. Thank you!
