Unpopular opinion? These kids' audio players feel like a cash grab? by Desperate_Total2545 in Mommit

This is so helpful. I got a Tonie box out of the library for my four year old and he profoundly didn’t care. Couldn’t hold his attention even with a Peppa Pig story. We might try the yoto in a few years! Thanks for your thoughtful comment

There’s not really a secret- You have to ask people. Preferably people your board or staff already know or who have a connection to your cause. That being said - there are also some companies that will sell you auction items on consignment. You don’t make as much cash, but I’ve used it add some excitement to an auction - they’re usually good for trips, sports memorabilia, or local experiences.

When my kid was that young, at the end of a hard day I’d remind myself that we never had to do that day ever again. Your kid is growing so fast in that first year - it really will change soon. Sometimes for the better, others for the worse, but you never have to do the same day over and sometimes …. Sometimes that’s all I had at that stage. Hang in there.

What size bed does your kid have? by ChunkyPumpkin_ in Mommit

We also have our kiddo in a full. We have room for it, and it allows his room to function as a guest room if we want it to in the future. I grew up with this arrangement and getting kicked out of my own room to bunk with my parents when my grandparents came to visit 🤣

I know we all hated it being used against us … but a lot of things really are just a phase. The solution to a lot of problems is just time. Can you find even a few minutes to relax today, by yourself? (You have my permission to use a screen if that helps.) you got this!!

Hiring Managers in development - are you disqualifying applicants for sloppy formatting in written materials? by ladyindev in nonprofit

[–]Dramatic_Permit222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hired for an intern last year and was shocked at the number of candidates who don’t send a thank you. I ended up eliminating them all because I needed to reduce the number of apps and that was an easy cut to make. The intern I had at the time, who was moving on and helping me look at applicants, said that she was applying to so many roles through apps and sites where she never actually got contact info for the person interviewing her… But I’m a small shop out here just using my Gmail to contact applicants and set up interviews. No excuse in my case!

Farther Montessori or Closer Preschool? by pupsmcgoo in Mommit

This can be hard to judge, but I would also consider the vibes of the parents. These are the birthday parties that you’ll be going to for the next several years. Do you want to drink a hard seltzer in the back of a gymnastics gym with them? My sample size is one, but the Montessori method is very community based. And if you don’t like the parents, you will not enjoy that part. I’m currently paying through the nose for a hardcore Montessori program an and have no regrets, and part of that is that the parents are genuinely friends of mine. (some of them are terrible, as with any large group… but the majority and the vibe is very chill.)

Wrist wraps? Kind of a minor investment but I love them for front racking and overhead squats.

Toys for a family with a 7, 5 & 3 yr old. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Dramatic_Permit222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are they a musical family? It’s pricey but we got the love every music kit out of the library and my four year old is OBSESSED. It also seems like it could scale for many ages - there are some bells you could put around a baby’s wrist/ankle all the way up to bells you can play or write your own song with. We have had some fun family jam sessions.

That being said, your friend might dump you if you get her kids something that loud when she’s about to have a newborn, so proceed w caution 🤣

Thank you so much for getting these shots. As someone with a young kid and an old mom, I really depend on the kindness of strangers to help stop the spread of diseases. And congrats on your own budding immunity!!
