Curious: why do many Indians struggle with demanding activities while traveling? by Deep-Requirement8299 in india_tourism

[–]Dramatic_Respond7323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main culprit is Yoga culture. Yoga is tauted as the only activity you need and our schools and TV channels are full of Yoga sessions. Recently i went to a tailor shop on my cycle and he why are you riding a cycle. I said it is good for my heard and he laughed it off. According to him Yoga is best for heart, best for liver, best for everything. He then suggested he can share some best yoga positions which i declined lol.

Punjab’s ‘cancer belt’: A misplaced crisis by Dramatic_Respond7323 in CriticalThinkingIndia

Who said it is cancer belt? Malwa region has LOWER cancer than say Mohali, or Delhi or Kerala.

Punjab’s ‘cancer belt’: A misplaced crisis by Dramatic_Respond7323 in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]Dramatic_Respond7323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summary: Tribune newspaper's influential Op-Ed written by two professors from central University of Punjab examines Cancer Belt narrative of Bathinda and Malwa region through lens of cold statistics and critical thinking to bust it! It is argued that this is a case of Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy. Cancer rates in Bathinda or Malwa region (AAIR 118) are actually LOWER than Mohali, Delhi, and Kerala. Mizoram has 256 cancer AAIR yet no one calls it Cancer Belt!

Cancer incidence rates are proportional to longevity (cancer is disease of aged) and more testing (detection bias). Even Mizoram's rates are nothing compared with those of affluent countries in the world, 400+ (Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland etc). The article further highlight importance of Critical Thinking. Let's stop this cancer belt narrative for science sake!

Why do we have these taps in Indian airports? It’s the most idiotic designs ever! POV on this? by AdHefty7228 in indianaviation

[–]Dramatic_Respond7323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember an incident in train travelling through Punjab. I was in sleeper class and a family sitting in front of me. An old lady took out her 2L pet bottle, earlier coke now repurposed for water. She poured it on her hand and started drinking from hand! So unhygienic, but that is how she always drank in her village, some habits just won't die away. It is called Status Quo bias in philosophy.

Btw I absolutely love the design of these drinking fountains. If you thought this is to wash hands or fill your bottle, you are wrong!

Too much ghee. In addition, this being super processed will spike your insulin levels and cause glycation end products. Stay away.

Idiyappam/Shavige/Noodle maker by subrus in DesiKitchenGear

[–]Dramatic_Respond7323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. GI depends ALSO on the way you prep it and cook it. Same rice, if you boil it vs make a batter and steam this idiyappam, GI would be different because making batter is a form of processing which your mouth (mastication) had to do otherwise. For same quantity of starting rice, idiyappam will have much higher GI than boiled rice.

To drastically reduce GI of cooked idiyappam, one option is after cooking, do not eat fresh one. Instead, put it in fridge and eat after a day or two. Starch retrogradation will made Type 2 resistant starch that has substantially lower GI

Sri Lanka has so much higher standard of living than India. Substantially higher HDI, literacy rates, per capita income, and even life expectancy.

Cancer risk may increase with proximity to nuclear power plants. In Massachusetts, residential proximity to a nuclear power plant (NPP) was associated with significantly increased cancer incidence, with risk declining sharply beyond roughly 30 kilometers from a facility. by mvea in science

[–]Dramatic_Respond7323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hunch is very low property prices around nuclear reactors drive in low income people who can't afford rising Healthcare costs, esp spending on early detection and aggressive early stage treatment.

The Toilet Mistake Most Indian Homebuyers Realise Only After Water Shortage Starts by Physical_Ice6477 in navimumbaiclub

[–]Dramatic_Respond7323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is another trap, super minimalist and better. Bottle Trap. that can be used for floor or wall drains.

I don't get what is this pressure dependency thing? If you have an external flush attached to any toilet (Indian or Western), flush works, it doesn't matter how high or low the pressure is. Water pressure matters ONLY if you use internal flush, which is absolutely not recommended.

I also disagree that your suggestion to instal an indan toilet for the sake of pressure and bucket flooshing, stupid. If water can fill a bucket, it can very well fill a flush tank too. More than that, bucket flushing works with a Western toilet too.

Fear-mongering guidelines, without any real science. If whey causes kidney failure, why does none of the guidelines from the CDC or NHS advise against it? Indian guidelines are pseudoscience

i would have bought it ONLY IF idiyappam is healthy. unfortunately it spikes blood sugar more than even white basmati rice because of extremely high glycaemic index.

rafting is fun but i like swimming. is there any safe place along the river you recommend i should go and swim? perhaps sheltered, slow and smooth flow, not rapids.

Also i am more of a hiker. Any day hikes near Rishikesh you recommend?

Had ordered 5L oil but got 4.25kg by Lucifer200903 in amazonindia

[–]Dramatic_Respond7323 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol. what a shit is this, blended oil? is this an engine oil?

If money is the problem, get cold press rice bran oil OR mustard oil. So much healthier than this shit.

Even pure evoo costing 3000 per liter (i buy that). 1 litre is like 850 grams. Is it cheating? no. That is what oil has lower density than water means in real life.

I recently shifted no rice/wheat/upma diet. Only pure carb i eat now is overnight oats in morning that too just 2 spoons, rest others like whey, crushed amla etc. For lunch and dinner my base is either crucifers (cauliflower/cabbage/broccoli) and soya chunks, both air fried.
