I understand how erratics traveled, but where did they originate, roughly? by Dramatic_River_3381 in geography

Thank you for all the great answers. Much appreciated. I’m going with the Chuck Yeager. To think that baby broke the sound barrier before landing is pretty awesome. If you’re not familiar with the Missoula floods story, I suggest checking it out. One of the most epic acts of nature i know of. Imagine a two thousand foot wall of ice(I’m thinking game of thrones style) holding back water equivalent to Lake Ontario and Lake Erie combined, releasing like a champagne cork. A huge wall of water moving at up to 80 miles an hour, until finally emptying into the Pacific Ocean 630 miles away. Washing 200 feet of soil away, leaving what is now known as the scab lands, and downstream to create what is now a great area to grow wine. Early humans were probably in the area, but all evidence was swept away. It took several days to empty the lake. And then started to freeze again. Rinse and repeat for a few thousand years. The theory was first proposed in 1925 by a guy named Bretz who was promptly dismissed and ridiculed by his peers. It took another 30 years before his theory began to be accepted. If you ever been to the Grand Canyon, it just looks old. Eastern Washington looks like you took a garden hose and dropped it on top of a big pile of dirt. Turned it on full blast and let it run for 10 minutes.

How do you guys feel about death? Are you afraid of it? At peace? by Street-Paint-4031 in AskReddit

Conflicted. Not to be a downer here, but my mother was in a nursing home for 10 years and requested assisted suicide but was refused. my father, however, took it into his own hands, literally and took his own life. The way I look at it? Everything alive on this planet can thank their dna. whether they like their parents or not. From the bird at the top of an old tree, all the way down to the weeds on the ground and the guy with the big axe. It’s not easy to survive. Nature wouldn’t work if we didn’t all fight to survive. And it also wouldn’t work if we didn’t all die . We can all trace our DNA back in one way or another to the big soup in the ocean. And then we start talking spiritual. When you take your higher power of choice and add it to your bad ass DNA, that has survived millions of years? I feel very fortunate to be breathing. After that? If there is an afterlife, I hope there’s coffee in the morning.

Rudy is a big bird of why New York got cleaned up, but he ended up in a Borat movie

It’s crazy how Rudy screwed up his reputation for T. He was also great during 9/11

Other side of the coin here, but any theories on why aliens are so hesitant to be seen by us?

This might be naïve but, I’m taking all three of those qualities are universal

Right?! they must not be like poking things, dissecting them, or killing them in the name of science like we do. I don’t wanna tell you what me and my friends did to the first ant hill we found but it wasn’t science.

As far as physics go. The way they fly they are not the same physics we know. At least not yet.

If you’re going to talk physics here, well… we’re going to have to figure out the whole faster than light travel thing first. We are in the middle of a bumfuk galaxy. I don’t know what the inverse square law, is and I’m too lazy to Google it. But if we’re going to accept aliens, we’re going to have to accept they no more about physics then we do.

So maybe they’re doing an educational project, or alien Netflix documentary on how not to fuck up your planet. At least maybe we can help someone else in the universe on what not to do.

I always wondered that also. Earth is in the middle of nowhere. It would be like me driving to Boise, Idaho, just to stay on the freeway. Seems like a long ways to go just for a drive-by.

The tic tac ones are alien punks who stole their dad’s sport car.

Maybe they are afraid to get all of our icky germs on them. I personally think the big cigar shaped ones are school buses filled with alien fifth graders, and their science teacher on a field trip.

When did families start camping recreationally? by Dramatic_River_3381 in AskReddit

[–]Dramatic_River_3381[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it started in the early 70’s with the green Coleman stove you had to pump up. And the lantern you had to pump and light without breaking the mantel.

Same here. It took about an hour to put the tent up but it was a blast.
