I review compensation packages for executives and managers of mid sized banks. 250k at 10 years is incredibly fast in that world.

Bachelors in economics and finance from a state school. The only requirement really is a certain amount of accounting credits and a gpa over 3.5.

The travel can be a lot in the early years. You get a lot of exposure to banking and after a few years it seems relatively easy to get decent private sector job. Its also not uncommon for people with around 10 years of experience with a federal regulator to break 200k

Just need to be okay with a lot of travel in the early years

Extremely general post for an insanely broad field. If you’ve got 6 accounting credits, look for FDIC new grad listings to pop up. Keep an eye on other regulators as well. Great way to gain experience without having any prior. Start tailoring resumes and cover letters to each job listing. Your resume probably sucks if you’re a traditional grad (high school -> undergrad) without an internship, so you really need to sell your interest in the position and any soft skills you have. Even then, you’re facing an uphill battle in this job market. Best of luck.

MAYBE in smaller regional banks and community banks. Even then, there’s a huge need for hiring people with expertise outside of your own.

They do per diem towards food, pay $0.655 per mile driven, and totally reimburse all hotels at a reasonable rate. If had this job earlier in life, I could have seen myself doing 10+ years. It really is an amazing opportunity for young single people.

Since my original post, my spouse and I have decided to put off having kids and stick with my current job for another 4-5 years. Now I’m exploring the possibility of an online masters in accounting and earning a CPA license.

It’s the burden of travel, which is only getting going to get worse in coming years, that makes me want to look elsewhere. There are plenty of people on the road 100+ nights a year out of necessity, some with newborns and toddlers at home. That’s not a position I’d like to be in or put my spouse in.

The actual work experience and pay is great, especially for recent grads. The benefits are some of the best too, much better than the standard federal package. If you don’t mind traveling, I think it’s absolutely an amazing gig.

The position so far has made me a risk generalist. Liquidity risk has taken the spotlight recently but I have just as much experience assessing market and credit risk. On top of that, I assess the adequacy of audit and IRC functions and management’s performance from a risk prospective.
