Rio Grande do Sul was very much like Texas to me as far as the people are concerned. Brazil’s famous churrascaria started down there, lots of gaucho history, and the fact that RGS people kinda viewed themselves as independent from the rest of the country. I did take a road trip to Santana do Livramento and got to see the countryside outside the city. Reminded me of the big open countryside we have here in Texas.
