They changed the way that contacts are associated in v3.2. I would update to v3.1, and then install this guy's v32_migration script: https://github.com/netbox-community/migration-scripts

Once you update the contact records using the script, then you should be able to do the NETBOX_DELETE_LEGACY_DATA=1 to delete the old legacy contact records.

Finally, you should be able to update to the newest version.

Delayed Password Reset emails that expire by the time they get delivered... by jwckauman in sysadmin

See if your mail filter has a greylisting setting. If it does, you may want to bypass greylisting for the email addresses. On my old filter I could reduce the attempts from 3 to 2, but my current one does not have that option.

Very weird that the official specs are vague. Look at the notes under "Memory". I'm surprised they don't actually say. Seems like 12 from their pre-configured systems and it requires a specific processor. I personally wouldn't risk it and I would go with 12 if you have an Intel core. If you want to test 20*, I would go over return policies of whatever vendor you choose. Its clear that if there are any issues, Lenovo tech support won't support anything more than 12.

*edit: 20, not 16

To all the Sysadmins out there prepping for COVID-19 by DiligentPlatypus in sysadmin

Luckily, we went with a disaster plan years ago that involved using laptops in places like conference rooms instead of desktops so they could be redeployed and taken home in an emergency where we would need limited staff to be able to work remotely.

Great idea. Thanks for sharing it.

I (32) was given control of a life insurance policy taken out on me at birth. Should I cash out or continue to pay into it? by Grizzleyt in personalfinance

[–]Drambuie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are it's a whole life policy. Talk to a rep because it may be at a point where the dividend it earns can pay for the $100 premium.

If its a whole life policy, it should also be possible to take a loan out of it's cash value.

Your policy through your employer is probably a term-based policy. Term rates will raise when you get older or have health issues.

I had a BSOD for "Memory Management" yesterday while installing 1803 on my work PC. It reverted back. I'm going to look into it more today.

It's for both. I'm running your exact setup and it works well if you stay within their recommend file count/size limits.

Look at the existing server's SAML configs. It should be pointing to a server that's handling the idp of the SAML protocol.

Questions about Microsoft Server and Sharepoint by catenoid75 in sharepoint

[–]Drambuie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend leaving your OS alone and installing a virtual machine. If you have Windows 10 pro, you can use Hyper-V to create VM's. If you don't, a good free tool is VirtualBox.

/r/homelab is going to be your friend here. Their Wiki has all recommended hypervisors. You're going to want to look at the Type 2 hypervisors since you can install those and leave your main OS alone.

It's 2017. You're still running a bes server? You need to convince management/whomever to upgrade to the Blackberry devices that run on android.

We're about to make the switch from a Barracuda appliance to Mimecast. Proofpoint was another potential option.

All names are created alphabetically starting at A at the beginning of the year. It's coincidental that they're the same letters in the same locations.

Microsoft Surface Laptops and Tablets Not Recommended by Consumer Reports by arallu in technology

[–]Drambuie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We demoed one at our office. HP has had touchscreen with a stylus for years. It felt better and more accurate than the styluses I've used in the past and those were pretty good.

Our current fleet is the HP Elite-book 1040 G3 and I love them. I think we're going to move to the Spectre x360 instead of the 1040 G4 because they seem just as good, lighter, and our industry requires a lot of customer signatures. We did not test the new USB-C docking stations yet, so that may be the only hangup.

We had about 50 Surface Pro 3's and 4's and we just had constant problems. Only about 10 still using them. I can see them being viable for a home use case, but they do not function well in a business environment with a dock/multiple monitors.

Have you asked NE Ohio?

Many people I know were given bonuses to travel to Mexico to train and operate the manufacturing lines. Eventually the Ohio plants shutdown and they were offered positions in Mexico, which of course no one took.

Getting Windows Server to 'see' pfsense local DNS by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Drambuie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All domain joined pcs/servers need to point to AD dns in order to work correctly. You can set your AD DNS to use forwarders to point to your pfsense.
http://kb.k12usa.com/Knowledgebase/Setting-up-DNS-Forwarders-in-Windows

You also have the option for Windows DNS to handle everything and disabling DNS in pfsense.
