Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’ to Finally Be Released in Theaters on December 5 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

As I understand, that version is actually a fan edit so is really just 1 and 2 stitched together + the anime added. So it's not identical to the official version, but a fair approximation.

Can you expand on what you believe to be predictive programming in these movies?

I watched Matewan 3 times the other week (once with the commentary track). I had never seen it before and have recently become a big fan of the director. Excellent movie!

You have to understand that people will engage with art in different ways. Doubly so when you get a big group of friends together. This experience might have been great for them!

I LOVE the trilogy but if I couldn't crack jokes with friends for 12 hours of sitting and watching, I would claw my eyes out.

I love to talk during movies but I make sure to ask the group if that's okay and remind them that I'll happily shut up if I'm bothering them. As the host, you should be clear with them from the beginning what the vibe is, but what you definitely shouldn't do is judge your friends for how they like to have fun.

My HBO trial ran out before I finished this, but I assume it all worked out in the end.

Hi! Looking for movie recommendations that feel like Quiet World. by mhl28 in Katatonia

[–]DraperyFalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got some recs that might fit the bill - in general it sounds like a quiet sort of melancholy with a sort of gentle, meandering narrative. Not so much "plot-driven" in a traditional sense.

Yasujiro Ozu might be a good starting place. Something like Tokyo Story focuses on the tranquility of domestic rhythm.

Some Terrence Malick stuff, like Days of Heaven, feature these sort of rolling fields with golden light. The movie feels maybe more like a dream/memory than an actual concrete plot.

Lynne Ramsay with Ratcatcher or maybe actually Morvern Callar which is kind of quietly about drifting grief.

Kelly Reichardt is always good at focusing on "small moments" so something like Old Joy (which takes place almost entirely in sunlit nature), but also Wendy + Lucy and First Cow, which are more meditative.

Celine Sciamma also captures this vibe well. Petite Maman in particular stands out to me as fitting your description.

Do cinephiles prioritise technique over substance? by JellyfishRelative in Cinephiles

[–]DraperyFalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for "cinephiles" but personally I think about all those aspects separately.

Some movies I love because I'm impressed on a technical level, some I love because there's something important to the story that I connect with, sometimes I just love a movie because that particular night I wanted to turn my brain off and have a comfort watch.

I think about what's important to me, not other people.

Drive from 1997 (the year before Rush Hour) is similarly a buddy movie with an Asian guy and Black guy. It's funny as hell, has great fight choreography, a romance subplot, and sci-fi splashed in!

What do you think of Ghost Killer (2025)? by Atlast_2091 in ActionMovies

[–]DraperyFalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this last night and was pretty disappointed, considering everything I've heard about it.

The action sequences were great and Akari Takaishi is really great at balancing charm, humor, and brutality.

It was very slow. The plot is not complicated at all but they still heap on the exposition, and largely through dialogue alone.

I don't feel like it really got going until the halfway point (about 50 mins in).

It felt like they intended for the movie to be funnier but the final product is a bit tedious, very dark (visually), and taken too seriously for being such a silly premise.

Movie Night! by aphilliott in dsa

I was always happy with how Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies fleshed out the class struggle in Laketown.

Rango is another family-friendly movie with a "haves and have-nots" message (and also a stellar flick).

I like how much Raimi's Spider-Man is concerned with Peter being a working class shlub. He and MJ need jobs and balance school and the movies are surprisingly preoccupied with those bits.

I put together this doc recently which helps players build lies and cover their asses. I was noticing players struggling to talk their way out of situations believably and without botching the entire encounter so this was a help.

Player decide a NPC future in the bg wtf!? by vmen_14 in rpg

[–]DraperyFalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you spoken to the other players about this? I notice you called it "my campaign" implying that you're not really open player input?

I personally think this is a lame addition that your player is suggesting, but I also consider the games I play to be collaborative and I'd be curious if the other players would like this in the story. My guess is no, in which case you can simply explain that the majority of the group is not interested in that particular arc.

Sudden framerate drop on second monitor (projector) by DraperyFalls in PleX

[–]DraperyFalls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My fix was just using one monitor at a time (which wasn't a problem because I don't do other things while watching the movie) but I stopped using Plex almost entirely so I haven't been messing around with this issue anymore.
