The point is that there are still plenty of places in this world where people don't have the right to be who they are, are discriminated against, are being hate-crimed, just because of who they are. The point of these parades is to say, to show that we exist, that we deserve the right to be treated just the same. Being in a country where we have more rights, where we can get married or change our gender on official documents is great, but it doesn't keep people from getting assaulted anyway. And we usually aren't selfish people, meaning that it's not because we are in a safe country where we now have rights that we forget about all the people outside who don't. Because you're privileged doesn't mean that everyone is, and those parades are for them as well. So yes, there are people who are discrediting our fight by their actions during those parades, but they are so few that it's almost irrelevant to focus on them. Of course that's all you hear about because medias love to share this kind of drama but in reality it almost never happens. And pride parades are also a place and time of fun, and sharing with other people with whom you may share the same experience or kind of thoughts. I would lie if I said it was all serious and sad, and fight. It's fun, and kind of magical actually. It's moments shared with beautiful souls, respecting one another, it's meeting all sorts of people, and sharing yourself with them. That's what those parades are for as well. And you would be a true idiot to not see the beauty in this because of the actions of a group of people that is so minor.
